Celebrating the Journey
Five years is considered a benchmark for several things. When our children turn 5, we have a party. In fact, parties are often held in multiples of five, such as 25, 30, 50, 75, 100 and 120. It is an honor to be a part of an organization that is now celebrating 120 years. I proudly congratulate and salute all individuals past and present who have impacted Stoddard Baptist Home Foundation.
Ironically, December 2, 2022, will mark five years that I have served as the Executive Director of Clinical Operations and Support and Compliance Officer for all Stoddard Baptist Entities. Four years, ago Stoddard’s attention to detail became apparent when we served as the Emergency Managers for the Marigold Assisted Living in Washington, DC. The DC Housing Authority opened an Assisted Living as a part of an experiment to enter the Assisted Living business for residents of the District of Columbia who were low income. They hired a company who was unable to meet the challenges and demands required and learned that a change needed to be made.
Stoddard stepped up to the challenge and I became the Administrator of the Marigold Assisted Living as a part of the Stoddard’s commitment to serve. We successfully turned the operation around and most recently had survey ratings in the 98% range. We have proudly managed the organization for 4 years; however, this year the DC Housing Authority has elected to change the facility back to traditional Housing. We are now assisting with the closure process, and while sad to see the facility close, proudly acknowledge the impact of Stoddard on the residents in the District of Columbia.
As I reflect on the accomplishments of Stoddard’s 120 years, I think about a poem written by Edna Monroe Schultz. While this poem reflects on the church, I will interject Stoddard’s name in appropriate places:
May We Meet Again
“While reminiscing of years gone by and thinking of days to be, we pause today at the Golden Door of this history. Looking back, we review the goals of achievement sought and won, looking ahead; we see, by faith, success as we travel on. We view with ever thankful hearts God’s blessing upon the past, rejoicing that those who sowed the seed have harvested souls at last. “Stoddard” has lived by the Holy Word; the gospel has been proclaimed; and many souls have been won to Christ as His way they gladly named. We honor the saints of long ago with present ones today. Each worker has helped to build this “Stoddard’ and the great command obey. Many have passed to their just rewards; life’s hardships are theirs no more. We see the faithful who fill the gap as we gaze through the golden door. The boys and girls, the women and men are loyally standing by, accepting the faith of the early saints who experiences greet our panoramic view. But when the final report is made and the Lord’ s last victory told, may those of us gathered here today and meet again on the streets of Gold.”
“To God be the glory” -
“The best is yet to come!”
