Also a big thanks to those who were part of the Tradeshow Mixer that same evening also at the Hilton Stockton.

And, last but not least, congratulations to the 2015-16 Leadership Stockton Class and their leader, Timm Quinn, who held their graduation ceremony on June 9 also at the Hilton Stockton. This class has raised the bar even higher with their record-setting fundraising for their wonderful PEACE Project which gave a full facelift to the Stockton Police Department building along with shrubs, trees, World Peace Rose Garden, and resurfaced parking lot. Also part of their project is producing an up close and personal video of the lives of four SPD officers which will premiere on July 19 at the Bob Hope-Fox Theatre (BHF). We will email blast all the information and the class would love to fill the BHF. Congratulations on a job well done and hopefully we will have a full and exciting 2016-17 Leadership Stockton Class that we will challenge to “jump over the bar” raised by the 2015-16 LS Class.

The Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce can thank Leadership Stockton for our new 2016-17 Stockton Chamber Board of Directors President, Bakul Patel.

That’s because Patel was inspired to become more active in the community after participating in Leadership Stockton 2012, and his first step was to join the Stockton Chamber Board of Directors.

“After participating in Leadership Stockton, I realized that we all have the same amount of time in a day and it’s what we do with our time that matters,” Patel said. “Through Leadership Stockton, I met people who not only had full-time jobs and family commitments, but who were also involved in community activities and contributed their time to help others. I wanted to give back to the community as well, and by joining the Chamber and the March of Dimes I have been able to achieve that goal.”

Born and raised in England, Patel was educated in computer studies and accounting at Manchester Polytechnic and worked as an accountant in England before he and his wife Taruna moved to Manteca in 1993. Their 18-yearold daughter, Tejal, will go to college this fall and leave her parents as empty nesters with more time to dedicate to community activities.

Patel currently serves as Chief Financial Officer at Dorfman Pacific Co., one of the largest full-line, in-stock headwear and handbag companies in the world. “I started working at Dorfman Pacific as an accounts payable clerk in 1993 and I’ve been able to grow with the company for the past 23-plus years,” he said.

For more than 12 years, Patel has served as treasurer of the Greater Stockton Employer Advisory Board, and last year he began a two-year term as chairman of the board.

While he’s fond of all the Chamber’s programs, Leadership Stockton remains one of his favorites.
