2026 Jan - April Round-up: The Wellspring, Stockport
It’s hard to believe we’re already into April…
We wanted to share a quick round-up of the first few months of 2026 at The Wellspring. It’s been a busy start to the year, with incredible support from our community alongside growing demand for our services.

Engagement Highlights
425 people accessed structured support
52 people received advice via phone/email
81 new people approached us for support
34 people returned for additional support
Food sessions remain central:
Breakfast sessions: ~1,000 attendances/month
Lunch sessions: ~1,500 attendances/month
These sessions are more than meals, they provide a safe, welcoming space to connect, socialise, and be part of a community.
Football & Community ⚽
Weekly football sessions continue to bring people together (20–25 participants per week). Beyond the game, football helps build teamwork, confidence, and friendships. Summer tournaments and friendlies are coming up!
Football, like our food sessions, is about connection, teamwork, and routine. Staff facilitate sessions while maintaining links to wider support, and we’re proud to deliver this in partnership with Stockport County Community Foundation.

Volunteers: Building Purpose & Community
Volunteering at The Wellspring is more than lending a hand, it’s about creating opportunity. This quarter, 10 people who access our service chose to give back, supporting the day-to-day by sorting clothes and food donations.
Volunteering provides structure, routine, and a sense of purpose. It helps people build confidence, develop skills, and contribute to a positive community. Their contribution also allows staff to focus on direct support for others.
“I love this place both as a user and a volunteer; it gives a place to belong, feel welcomed and give back to others in similar situations.”
It’s a shared journey, we support people, and people support The

We are celebrating 35 Years!
We are celebrating 35 Years of The Wellspring! From our humble beginnings as a volunteer-led soup kitchen to the well-established drop-in support hub we are today, The Wellspring has continued to adapt to the changing needs of people experiencing homelessness. This has only been possible because of the community of Stockport and beyond. We remain a predominantly communityfunded project, supported through regular donations, fundraising efforts and the gift of time.
Together, we can continue to build futures beyond homelessness. We look forward to all that we can achieve together as we continue into 2026.
