Community News

It’s no secret that school holidays can be a daunting time for parents and their children, therefore we wanted to ensure that local youngsters stay occupied during the period.

Over 1,000 activity packs, carefully designed by our staff, full of goodies proven to improve self care and wellbeing in young people have been distributed to children receiving free school meals across the Borough.

This continues our project to ensure no child goes hungry in which we provided over 1,000 packed lunches throughout the school break in partnership with Life Leisure and Manchester United.

500 ingredients bags were also provided to schools for those receiving free school meals, which is a total of 2,000 individual meals. Each ingredients bag contained four healthy, nutritious and vegetarian recipes for a family of four to cook at home.

Alongside the activity packs, our innovative team kick-started a book collection, aiming to collect 1,000 books for our packs and local schools. Astonishingly, we smashed our target and collected over 2,000 books from generous locals. We would like to show our gratitude to everyone who donated to make this possible and the Government’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme which enabled us to create these packs.

Invitations have now been sent out to everybody aged aged 38 or over and to those aged 16 years plus who have underlying health conditions. Invitations for younger ages will come over the next few months.

The only thing that will change for you is the branding. For the past 15 years you would have seen the Repair 1st logo on our vans, uniforms and ID badges, this will change to Three Sixty.

When will this change happen?

The Repair 1st team moved into Three Sixty throughout April. You may still see some Repair 1st vans around Stockport for a few months while we update our fleet of vans.

Have you heard of the Furniture Recycling Project?

Did you know that Foundations Stockport supports customers in need to furnish their new home? For many people, particularly those that have been homeless, furnishing their home is an added expense and can be a real barrier to settling into their new property.

The Furniture Recycling Project collects and recycles furniture and electrical white goods in good working condition. These items are donated to families or residents in need. The project is completely reliant on donations from the general public and items from empty properties.

Over the last 12 months the project has helped over 515 households who had little or no support to furnish their new home and we saved over 44 tonnes of furniture from ending up in landfill.

One customer said;

“I have been homeless and would not have been able to furnish my home – thank you.”

Now the Covid-19 restrictions are slowly lifting we are looking for volunteers to help the project, from cleaning furniture to supporting deliveries and collections.

As Covid restrictions ease, we look forward to inviting you back to Cornerstone for a wide variety of face-to-face training. We are delivering a full schedule of training spanning our three themes of Employment, Well-being and Community.

Building Safety Team We take the safety of our customers extremely seriously, so we have created a Building Safety Team who want to work with customers to help manage safety in multi storey buildings. Our Building Safety Team are currently working on a 12 month pilot scheme that includes Hanover Towers, Pendlebury, Mottram, Millbrook, Ratcliffe and Lincoln Towers and if you live within one of these it is likely you have been or will be contacted by one of the team to discuss how you can play your part in the safety of your building.

We are actively tackling unacceptable behaviour around waste, fly tipping and litter by supporting the Council’s

‘We Love Stockport – Be Proud of Where You Live’ campaign and encouraging all our customers to play their part in setting a good example and helping to stop the waste and litter that is spoiling our neighbourhoods.

Did you know during 2020-21 we:

Attended 3,679 incidents of fly tipping across the Borough

Removed over 220 tonnes of rubbish, which is equivalent to the weight of 62 elephants

Made over 600 trips to the tip, equating to 775 days or 13,788 working hours

Fly tipping is Illegal dumping of rubbish that can include bags of household waste or bulky items including mattress, settees, fridges, TVs

It is a fire and safety hazard

It makes areas look ugly and run down

It can attract vermin

It costs money and resources to remove

Need to move due to medical reasons?

If you are applying to Homechoice and need to submit a medical application, you must submit supporting documents with your medical form to enable your medical form to be processed. This includes copies of relevant prescriptions and supporting letters from social / support workers. Without this supporting information we are unable to process your medical form and your points cannot be awarded.

If you are registered on Homechoice and your family details change, for example you have a new baby, please email registrationteam@stockporthomes.org with your application number and name and a copy of the birth certificate.

Evidence of child benefit is also required.

The property list now opens for bids from 5pm on Thursdays.

There is no change to the closing time, which will continue to be Tuesdays at 5pm. This still gives you 5 days to place bids (over 80% of bids are placed in the first 3 days) and also plenty of time to make contact to bid if needed.

If you normally check the advert and bid on a Wednesday, this just means you need to wait until 5pm on the Thursday to see what properties are available and place your bid.

We are doing this to make sure there are no delays in available homes being advertised.

Covid breaches lead to a property closure

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, the Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) team has seen an unfortunate spike in anti-social behaviour incidents and have worked closely with the Council and Greater Manchester Police to tackle the behaviour.

At the end of March, a closure order was granted against a resident of Bramhall, meaning they are no longer allowed to access that property, ensuring the local residents’ safety. The closure of the property followed persistent anti-social behaviour and Covid-19 breaches with the resident refusing to change their behaviour or engage with the team or other support services.

Our priority is to ensure the safety and security of our communities. Since the closure of the property, residents in the building now feel much safer.

Important Ofgem announcement for all prepayment and standard tariff energy customers The price cap level on household default energy tariffs has risen from £1,042 to £1,138 – an increase of £96. This is largely due to wholesale energy prices recovering to pre-pandemic levels in recent months. For pre-payment meter customers, the level has risen by £86 from £1,070 to £1,156.

There are around 15 million UK households, including 4 million prepayment meter customers on default tariffs and covered by the cap. Therefore, if you top up to pay for your gas and electricity or you pay by direct debit but haven’t fixed your tariff within the last 12 months then you are likely to be affected by this rise.

Safeguarding is everyone’s business

If you are concerned that a child, young person or vulnerable adult is being harmed or abused you must act.

Abuse can take many forms and includes: • Being neglected by not having basic needs such as food, clothing and safe and comfortable surroundings provided

• Being physically beaten and injured • Being left alone and not supervised • Being called names, being bullied and humiliated

• Misusing someone’s property or income • People from all walks of life and in all settings can be abused

• Being sexually abused or exploited

Safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults (i.e. protecting them from harm) is everyone’s responsibility and if you have concerns you must pass this information on.

If you think someone is in immediate danger then please ring the police on 999.

If your concerns are not at that level you should still pass the information on by contacting Social Care on 0161 217 6029 (Children) and 0161 217 6028 (Adults) - they will discuss your concerns with you and advise on next steps. If you wish to raise a concern outside of office hours contact 0161 718 2118 (Children and Adults).

You do not have to say who you are when raising concerns although this does help to confirm information, however the most important thing is that you pass your concerns on.

At a time when anxiety, depression and chronic stress are on the rise, many more people are seeking out counselling.

There are immediate issues affecting our day to day lives because of Covid-19.

For example, how our support networks have changed due to social distancing, how we have struggled to find work or adjust our work/life balance or caring and parenting responsibilities, health anxieties, the loss of loved ones, money worries and much, much more.

When things start piling up, it’s ever more essential to reach out to family and friends for support. However, sometimes speaking to a professional is needed and can be beneficial. You may find that this allows you to open up, to find new solutions and new ways to make changes; you will have a safe, secure space where you can share your concerns with someone impartial who will not judge.

As part of this a customer group ‘Rainbow Roofs’ has been set up for LGBT+ tenants. The group meets once a month and focuses on raising the voices of LGBT+ customers and the issues that may affect them.

We recently asked for feedback about our future priorities to help write our Five-Year Delivery Plan for services.

We received an amazing 740 responses and would like to thank those that took part.

• Tackling anti-social behaviour • Ensuring homes are safe • Making it easier for customers to contact us • Improving energy efficiency in homes • Improving the look and feel of homes • Ensuring estates are clean and safe

In addition, customers commented on issues that were specific to them and we have been replying where we have known their contact details. The feedback, along with information from things like customer satisfaction questionnaires, has helped to shape the new Delivery Plan and shape future service delivery and we will continue to use feedback from customers to help us to keep delivering excellent services in the future.

There are currently 7 customers on the panel from across the Borough. The panel meets every fortnight and is supported by staff and an external mentor through the whole process.

Every year, we aim to complete two service reviews.

We are currently finalising our most recent review which covered the One Number Service, which is where customers will call when contacting Stockport Homes.

This review focussed on: How accessible the service is to customers

How effectively enquiries are dealt with

How the service obtains, measures and uses customer satisfaction information to monitor and improve the service

We are making a number of recommendations about how we think these aspects of the service could be improved.
