The Michigan State Bar Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the State Bar of Michigan. Its purpose is to provide financial support for meaningful public-service programs on behalf of the legal profession. Founded in 1947, it is the second oldest of state bar foundations nationally. This article, published on the Foundation’s 35 anniversary, traces its history, spotlights its achievements, and explores avenues for enhancing its potential in the years ahead. A companion article, Michigan State Bar Foundation: Profiles in Leadership (available at https://issuu.com/stockmen/docs/ssrn-id1728508) focuses on the five men and a woman who led the Foundation during its first 35 years.
