Veterans day Saturday the 11th Veterans Day, originally called Armistice Day and commemorating the end of World War I, was established to honor all who served in the U.S. armed forces during World War I and has expanded to honor all service members — dead or alive — for their sacrifices, according to the Department of Defense. Veterans Day is celebrated in communities with Veterans Day parades or other celebrations honoring service members. The Veterans Day National Ceremony is held each year on Nov. 11 at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. During the ceremony, which commences at 11 a.m., a wreath is laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before a parade of colors by veterans' organizations and remarks from dignitaries follows inside the Memorial Amphitheater, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. With World War I being a multinational effort, the U.S. is not the only country to celebrate the day. Canda and Australia hold Remembrance Day on Nov. 11. In Canada, celebrations are similar to those in the U.S., with many citizens wearing red poppy flowers to honor fallen soldiers. In Australia, Remembrance Day celebrations are similar to Memorial Day activities in the U.S, according to the Department of Defense. Veterans Day is a time to celebrate all who have served our country. You can greet a veteran by wishing them “Happy Veterans Day” or by saying, “Thank you for your service.” Other ways to acknowledge the sacrifice and dedication of veterans on Veterans Day include: • Attending a Veterans Day event in your area. • Displaying an American flag on your property. • Donating to or volunteering with veterans' organizations, charities and facilities.
THANKSGIVING DAY THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 23RD
Heavenly Father, As we gather on this day of Thanksgiving, we remember the words of Holy Scripture that call us to give thanks in all circumstances. Lord, we thank You for the countless blessings You have bestowed upon us, both in times of joy and in times of challenge. We are grateful for the love of family and friends who surround us, for the food on our table, and for the shelter over our heads. Most of all, we thank You for Your presence in our lives, for Your grace, and for the gift of salvation through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us, dear Lord, to always maintain hearts filled with gratitude, not just on this special day but every day of our lives. May we continue to count it all joy and to give thanks in all things. In Jesus' name, we offer this prayer of thanksgiving. Amen.
MONDAY OCTOBER 9TH
What Is Small Business Saturday? Small Business Saturday is a one-day event that takes place every November on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. In 2022, it lands on Nov. 26. The event was created in 2010 by American Express as a means of encouraging support for small businesses during the Great Recession. In 2011, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution supporting Small Business Saturday. The event has since grown nationwide, with participation in all 50 states.1 Small Business Saturday falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, when consumers may already be shopping online or at well-known retailers to prepare for the holidays. By focusing on small businesses, the purpose of the event is to highlight their importance in local communities, so they aren’t overshadowed by larger companies.
