FRIDAY
Drag Queen Bingo is filling up Friends,
Celebrate Outreach’s Drag Queen Bingo, the party that puts the “fun” in fundraising, is approaching capacity.
- The bingo, which is essential to funding our work, is next Wednesday, October 4th, 6:30 PM at the Pesky Pelican Brew Pub, 923 72nd Street North St. Petersburg FL 33710 (next to the Pinellas Trail near the SPC Gibbs campus)
- Please call the Pesky Pelican Brew Pub at (727) 302-9600 now to RSVP before it is filled. The last Drag Queen Bingo was a sellout.
- Our good friend and supporter Drag Queen Georgia will be calling a game that ain’t your grandma’s bingo! Invite your friends, family, coworkers, etc., to join the party and win prizes.
- Please note: food and drink can be charged, but bingo requires cash. An ATM is available.
Last Saturday we served 125 meals, so the need continues to be great.
INDEGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY MONDAY,
OCTOBER 9TH
Holiday in the United States that celebrates and honors indigenous American peoples and commemorates their histories and cultures. It is celebrated across the United States on the second Monday in October and is an official city and state holiday in various localities. It began as a counter-celebration held on the same day as the U.S. federal holiday of Columbus Day, which honors Italian explorer Christopher Columbus. Some people reject celebrating him, saying that he represents "the violent history of the colonization in the Western Hemisphere".
Indigenous Peoples Day was instituted in Berkeley, California, in 1992, to coincide with the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Columbus in the Americas on October 12, 1492. Two years later, Santa Cruz, California, instituted the holiday. Starting in 2014, many other cities and states adopted the holiday. In 2021, Joe Biden formally commemorated the holiday with a presidential proclamation, becoming the first U.S. president to do so.
OCTOBER 9TH
MONDAY
Boss' Day is generally observed on or around October 16th in the United States. It has been pitched as a day for employees to thank their bosses for being kind and fair throughout the year, but some have opposed the concept as nothing more than a meaningless Hallmark Holiday, as well as placing unfair pressure on employees to kowtow to managers who earn more than they do while exercising power over them.
