help wanted - Mats Ministry really needs a coordinator. MAT MINISTRY First, we would like to extend our deep appreciation to Shelli Muncy for coordinating the mat ministry over these last several months. Despite COVID, we have had a few crocheters cranking out mats for us, but, hopefully in the Fall, we will be able to bring back the monthly, in-person gatherings that seem to anchor this ministry. With the raising up of the Parking Lot Gang, Shelli will be focusing her efforts there. As fast as mats are completed, they are being given out. What the Mat Ministry REALLY NEEDS: * MINISTRY COORDINATOR - someone who will keep ministry participants informed about gatherings and who will coordinate the various aspects of producing of the mats and keep the process moving, i.e., cutting strips, making plastic yarn, crocheting of the mats, and finishing work. The coordinator answers inquiries about the ministry and engages new ministry members through emails and other church communications. * CROCHETERS URGENTLY NEEDED - while anyone wishing to be part of any facet of this ministry is more than welcome to join in, the ministry REALLY NEEDS CROCHETERS so that more mats can be produced. There are a few people currently crocheting mats, but MORE ARE NEEDED. For anyone wishing to learn how to crochet a mat, training sessions may be possible in the Fall. * PLARN MAKERS - Making Plarn (Plastic Yarn) is a simple process--something that can be done watching TV. Plarn makers would very much be appreciated to help speed the process along for those who are crocheting the mats.

What the Mat Ministry DOESN'T NEED right now: Plastic Bags. We thank everyone for bringing in their plastic grocery bags.

The Parking Lot Gang will be popping up our pantry. at Praise The Lord Ministries, 900 S. MLK , St. Pete on June 12, 2021, alongside Celebrate Outreach. Celebrate Outreach will provide food packages that include a hot, nourishing breakfast and supplemental food for the next day or two. PLG will be honored to provide clean clothes to anyone who needs them. We will also be providing hygiene items and "to go" food that can be eaten later with no prep necessary. Showered and

Empowered to be on-site as well to provide showers for people in need. This is an amazing event that will change your perspective. For more information, or to volunteer, please email stocccplg@gmail.com. PARKING LOT GANG ONE (1) YEAR ANNIVERSARY

In order to celebrate our One (1) year anniversary, the PLG would like to provide the sandwiches for the Celebrate Outreach food packages mentioned below. We need at least 100 sandwiches. We are looking for volunteers to make sandwiches in increments of 10.

Please reach out to Shelli or email stocccplg@gmail.com if you would like to help us feed people.

St Teresa’s Summer 4 Points on Service to the Poor! Let’s do this! I’ve always found it significant that Jesus mentions the poor in his very first sermon: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor” Luke 4:18. We must care about the poor because Jesus did. We don’t have a choice. So how can we help the people in our churches minister to the poor? Here are a few ideas I have; perhaps you have more: 1. Treat the poor with dignity. We’re not smarter, we’re not more talented, and we’re not more valuable than people who are poor. The Bible says, “Rich and poor have this in common: The Lord is the Maker of them all” Proverbs 22:2. I like to say that our self-worth isn’t based on our net worth. 2. Offer the poor opportunities. The Bible says, “When we have the opportunity to help anyone, we should do it” Galatians 6:10. As I’ve talked to people in various ministries, they all say that the best way to help the poor isn’t to give them a bunch of money. It’s to give them opportunities. Maybe people need training. Maybe they need help finding a job. Maybe they need a network of folks who can connect them with mentors and resources. We can teach our members to watch for ways they can give opportunities to the poor. 3. Defend the poor. The Bible says it’s our responsibility to care about injustice. We’re called to speak up when we see the poor (or anyone else, Black lives Matter, LGBTQ+, Jews, Asian, etc mistreated. The poor are vulnerable to abuse. They’re often the ones who get taken advantage of by unfair practices of businesses and landlords. And it’s the poor around the world who are most likely to get sold into slavery. We can look for opportunities to defend them. In fact, at St Teresa’s, were mobilizing members to work with F.A.S.T, PLG, Dream Center, Celebrate Outreach with some of the people with legal backgrounds to help us do this. 4. Share what we have. This is how we can be the church. The Bible says, “Share your food with everyone who is hungry; share your home with the poor and homeless. Give clothes to those in need; don’t turn away your relatives” Isaiah 58:7. We want people to start meeting needs when they find them, not just expect someone at the church to handle them. A church dispersed can serve many more people than a church gathered. Our church has 70 members, our church dispersed has 100 times as many opportunities to help people who are poor than if it’s just left to the PLG staff. And as we teach people to help the poor, we’re helping them to worship God: “If you oppress poor people, you insult the God who made them; but kindness shown to the poor is an act of worship” Proverbs 14:31 Father Victor Ray

Let’s preach the Gospel and Invite people to Church! Inviting others to worship with us on Sunday mornings is a great way to share the light and love of the Savior with family and friends. But sometimes we make it harder than it needs to be.

Here are seven ways we can help friends feel more comfortable accepting the invitation to come to church: 1. Do It Out of Love Why are you inviting them? Is it for you or for them? If you have their best interests in mind, they will feel your sincerity. If they can see they are important to you, they may be more willing to learn about what else is important to you. 2. Do Invite Them to Worship with You Ask your friends if they have a place to worship the Savior and invite them to come worship with you, especially at times like Christmas and Easter. If they aren’t Christians, ask them if they’d like to learn more about Jesus Christ and invite them to experience a Christian worship service with you. Remember to show the same respect for their beliefs that you hope they will give yours. 3. Don’t Take “No” Personally If your friend declines, accept “no” graciously. But don’t think a “no” to attending church means a “no” to you. There are a lot of reasons they might have said no that have nothing to do with how they feel about you. If you don’t let a “no” change your relationship, you might have a later opportunity to understand their feelings better. 4. Do Help Your Friends Know What to Expect If your friends accept an invitation to come to church, help them understand what to expect: how they might dress, the purpose and length of each meeting, and what will happen Church—or not happen. You should also explain to them what the Mass and Singing is and what it means. This may help them be more at ease when they come to church. Here are a few videos you can share that might help them know what to expect: The Welcome Video on our website: www.stoccc.org is a good way to ease people in….and if they ask for my autograph you know they liked it. 5. Do Replace Info with Intros People are usually less interested in our doctrine (at least at first) than they are in our community and good works, PLG (parking lot gang). Help them connect with people and share how we are involved in the community. serve together, and care for each other. A great way to introduce someone to the gospel of Jesus Christ is to start by sharing the blessings the gospel has to offer. Just show them Love and acceptance.

6. Do Welcome Everyone If your friends attend, do what you can to make them feel welcome and meet their needs. Likewise, if you see someone at church you don’t know, be friendly and welcoming. Let them know how great it was to have them there. Try to see through their eyes, invite questions, and help them understand their experience.

7. Don’t Force; Follow Up Some who may be interested in attending are afraid that they’ll be pressured into something. As you try to provide a good experience where your friends can feel the Holy Spirit, share thoughts and feelings, but don’t feel like you have to force a spiritual experience. Trust God and let the Spirit do Her work. And if your friends don’t have time to stay after church to talk, thank them for coming and ask them to come back anytime.

The Most Important Invitation Let the power of God move through you….you never know where that person is in their life….you just might have saved it by saying….Would you come with me to Church?
