help wanted - Mats Ministry really needs a coordinator. MAT MINISTRY First, we would like to extend our deep appreciation to Shelli Muncy for coordinating the mat ministry over these last several months. Despite COVID, we have had a few crocheters cranking out mats for us, but, hopefully in the Fall, we will be able to bring back the monthly, in-person gatherings that seem to anchor this ministry. With the raising up of the Parking Lot Gang, Shelli will be focusing her efforts there. As fast as mats are completed, they are being given out. What the Mat Ministry REALLY NEEDS: * MINISTRY COORDINATOR - someone who will keep ministry participants informed about gatherings and who will coordinate the various aspects of producing of the mats and keep the process moving, i.e., cutting strips, making plastic yarn, crocheting of the mats, and finishing work. The coordinator answers inquiries about the ministry and engages new ministry members through emails and other church communications. * CROCHETERS URGENTLY NEEDED - while anyone wishing to be part of any facet of this ministry is more than welcome to join in, the ministry REALLY NEEDS CROCHETERS so that more mats can be produced. There are a few people currently crocheting mats, but MORE ARE NEEDED. For anyone wishing to learn how to crochet a mat, training sessions may be possible in the Fall. * PLARN MAKERS - Making Plarn (Plastic Yarn) is a simple process--something that can be done watching TV. Plarn makers would very much be appreciated to help speed the process along for those who are crocheting the mats.
What the Mat Ministry DOESN'T NEED right now: Plastic Bags. We thank everyone for bringing in their plastic grocery bags.
The Parking Lot Gang will be popping up our pantry. at Praise The Lord Ministries, 900 S. MLK , St. Pete on May 8, 2021, alongside Celebrate Outreach. Celebrate Outreach will provide food packages that include a hot, nourishing breakfast and supplemental food for the next day or two. PLG will be honored to provide clean clothes to anyone who needs them. We will also be providing hygiene items and "to go" food that can be eaten later with no prep necessary. Showered and
Empowered to be on-site as well to provide showers for people in need. This is an amazing event that will change your perspective. For more information, or to volunteer, please email stocccplg@gmail.com.

ministry focus When you work for the Church! The good, the bad, and the ugly, how can we do better? Lessons in Ministry from MotherTeresa BY APRIL YAMASAKI POSTED ON MAY 31, 2018 I am a long way from the streets of Calcutta where Mother Teresa focused her ministry, but as I reflect on the account ofher life in Vintage Saints and Sinners by Karen Wright Marsh (InterVarsity Press, 2017), I am struck by three key lessons forme and for anyone in Christian service: Lesson #1: be Christ-centered and to God. One wealthy man observed Teresa cleaningthe oozing wounds of an emaciated leper. Repulsed, he declared, “I wouldn’t do that for a million dollars.” “Neither would I,” saidTeresa, “But I would gladly do it for Christ.” Lesson #2: allow god’s call to shape you The voice insisted, “Come, come, carry Meinto the holes of the poor. Come, be my light.” Over months of conversations with the Voice, her new life of radical compassionate service took shape—and formed the iconic woman we know as Mother Teresa. Lesson #3: ground ministry in faithfulness instead of relying on feelings that do not last. Teachers from other spiritual traditions offertechniques promising inner bliss. I know I amnot the only one going for serene assurance of God’s presence and direction. Mother Teresa pushes against our expectations when she shifts the focus fromfeelings to fidelity. Turning the tables, she calls for commitment followed by faithfulness; affirming emotions are beside the point. St Teresa of Calcutta Ministries A ministry is a way to serve our church and the community. The most well-known type of ministry is serving as a pastor, but there are many other ministry opportunities for people. You can use your skills and passions to find a type of ministry that fits your personality to get involved in our church community andstrengthen yours and our faith.
Hospitality Ministries Hospitality ministries are ministries that take care of the needs of the church itself. They offer a wide variety of opportunities for people, including organizing and executing potlucks, making bulletins, and working in thechurch office, greeters before Church and after, Acolytes, Readers. These are the most common ministries for people to get involved with and I feel the most important. We each have a chance of touching people’s lives. Do you want to touch a person’s heart and show the Love of Jesus?
Teaching Ministries Teaching ministries are those that preach and teach. They include pastors, ministers of the Word, Sunday school teachers, and religious education directors. Youthgroups and Bible studies are teaching ministries, as well. Although we do not have any youth yet, we need to be prepared….and we can do that ministry in ZOOM. today. Within the church, teaching ministers are solely responsible for the faith formation of the congregants. That sounds like a big job…. its sharing your faith with others…. Anyone wants to volunteer to lead bible study from your home via Zoom…. teach a class of faith, bookclub members and/or Lectio Divina prayer leaders, praying the scriptures during the week?
Outreach Ministries Outreach ministries are those that minister to our church's community or to the community at large. Outreach ministries also include soup kitchens, food pantries, and Habitat for Humanity. Our parish has two great ministries that encompass a lot of those ministries -The Parking Lot Gang, led by Shelly Muncy, who ministry to the homeless and those that are marginalizedby providing food, clothing, showers, and basic needs. This ministry is growing, and the needs are great. F.A.S.T.is also a growing ministry in our congregation in all aspects of Social justice, housing affordability’s, etc., led by Fran Zimmer and Michelle Ponce Mazuros. We join with a number for Faith communities throughout the community to help influence our politicians to provide forour sisters and brothers who cannot speak for themselves. MATS program…I know we have a comfortable place to sleep at night but many in our community sleep on the ground. MATs are put together with love by crocheting PLARN (plastic shopping bags) into washable MATs so that people do not have to sleep directly on the ground. These ministries are good for people who want to make a difference in their parish andcommunity of St Petersburg, and for people who are outgoing and friendly, it only takes a smile and an hour or two every month. We are looking for Ministry leader for this group.
Music Ministries Music ministries are those that use music to worship andpreach, yes Gordon McMann is our leader at St Teresa’sThey include vocal and hand bell choirs, praise bands, and piano or organ playing for weekly services. Music ministries also organize special programs for churches, such as Christmas pageants. Most of these ministry opportunities are volunteer positions, and only require a love of music to participate. ST TERESA’S has decided to start a choir. WE are looking for volunteers who wouldlike to help lead us in prayer - Singing is praying twice the scriptures tell us….and we want to tell the world of StPetersburg, FL that Jesus is alive in song and music. Want to be part of the choir? Please see Gordon.
Counseling Ministries/Healing Ministries Counseling ministries are those that minister to a person's emotional or mental health, in addition to their spirituality. Therapists, counselors, and spiritual directorsfall under this category. Many counseling ministry opportunities require additional training but sometimes is just listening and praying. St Teresa’s has a healing ministry and would love for you meet our team. Cindi and Dennis Giddens would love to pray with you and offer comfort if you are down. Give them a try…. prayer goes along way. And of course, your Pastor - Fr. Victor isavailable anytime to talk and for reconciliation. St Teresa of Calcutta is your parish….do you see a need? Contact Fr. Victor and let us pray and discern together and let us ask St Mother Teresa to be with us aswe minister to the people of God. From Father Victor Ray
