Fang-tastic Movies A selection of spooky halloween movies recommended by SMCES teachers...
Hocus Pocus Ms. Theresa Rentar // Ms. Sarah Joyce // Ms. Liz Pomeroy // Mrs. Jennifer Santiesteban // Ms. Rowena David “3 witchly sisters re-awaken to wreak mayhem on their New England town! The ingenuity of children saves the day!”
It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown Dr. Neil Quinly // Ms. Valerie Vespe // Ms. Meg Koerber “This movie reminds me of the wonderful family time we had during Halloween. Trick or Treating, visiting our cousins and creating our costumes.”
Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983) Mrs. Wendy Hackney “Ray Bradbury took the title for his book from Shakespeare's Macbeth. Macbeth's witches portent "by the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes." True to that warning, the movie begins with a train that brings a wicked carnival to town headed by the sinister Mr. Dark. The movie looks and sounds and plays like Halloween.”
12 The Nightmare Before Christmas Dr. Neil Quinly // Ms. Rowena David // Ms. Colleen Crowley “The Nightmare Before Christmas is a mash-up of two of my favorite holidays. It also tells the important story of appreciating what you have in front of you.”
Goosebumps Mrs. Anne Stickley “This is my favorite movie because the main character finds out that she is a witch and gets to explore what life is like as a witch.”
Casper Ms. Samantha Twitchell “Casper is one of my favorite movie because I use to watch it all the time growing up. It's a fun story about a friendly ghost.”
13 Ghostbusters (The Original Movie) Mr. Phil Dansart “It's a great combination of humor and a little bit of scary.”
Halloweentown Ms. Veronica Seidner // Ms. Megan O’Shae/ “This is my favorite movie because the main character finds out that she is a witch and gets to explore what life is like as a witch.” The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (animated) Ms. Sarah Joyce “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow: A delightful tale from yesteryear still manages to inspire chills and thrills (and a song or two).”
Spookley the Square Pumpkin Ms. Colleen Crowley “Spookley the Square Pumpkin reminds us to celebrate our uniqueness.”
