St Michael's Uniform Updates 2025-2027: Details and Timeline

Page 1

Uniform Updates

As we celebrate 130 years in 2025, we are pleased to share updates to the St Michael’s School Uniform following a two-year consultation process, with student voice at the centre of our decision-making.

Key Updates 2025-2027

An update rather than an overhaul, we are refreshing select items based on community feedback, and phasing certain items out over a two-year period. Families are advised that students will be able to retain existing uniform items, mix old items with new items, and slowly purchase the updated items by Term 2, 2027.

Students graduating in 2025 or 2026 will not be required to purchase the new items, unless they wish to do so.

Puffer Vest available in all sizes

Due to popular demand, the St Michael’s Puffer Vest is now available for all students K–12.

The St Michael’s Blazer must still be worn as the outer garment when commuting to and from School each day – in Terms 2 and 3 only. Staff and current parents are also invited to purchase one for wear whilst on-campus or at major community and sporting events.

Bob Stewart have received a limited amount of the teen and adult sized Puffer Vests and expect to have increased stock available at both stores between May and June 2025.

Prep to Year 6

Girls school blazer replaced with unisex striped blazer

From 2027, all students are to wear the striped blazer, with sizing and tailoring adjusted with unisex wear in mind.

Students can continue to wear the blue blazer until the end of Term 1, 2027.

Striped tunic and skirt replaced with blue tunic and skirt

To complement the striped blazer, the striped tunic and skirt will be discontinued.

Prep to Year 3 girls will wear a blue tunic instead of the striped tunic. Year 4 to Year 6 girls will wear a blue skirt instead of the striped skirt. The tunic and skirt are options in addition to the blue unisex trousers and slacks.

Students can continue to wear the striped skirt or tunic until the end of Term 1, 2027.

White skivvy and short sleeve shirt/ blouse discontinued

The White Skivvy currently worn by Prep and Year 1 students will be discontinued. Students may wear the Blue Check Shirt in Terms 1 and 4, or the Long Sleeve White Shirt all year-round.

Details and timeline

Core Uniform: Formal Uniform

The Formal Uniform can be worn all year, and is compulsory throughout Terms 2 and 3, as well as for specified formal occasions. The updated St Michael’s Uniform is gender-neutral, ensuring it can be worn and passed down by all students.

Blazer

The striped red and blue blazer, currently worn by ‘boys’ and distinctive to our School, honouring our heritage, will be worn by all students. It can be paired with pants, shorts, the updated skirt, or tunic. This blazer is designed to suit all shapes and sizes.

Tunic and Skirt

The current tunic and skirts will retain their design but will now be in a modern navy blue colour, aligning with the shorts and pants. An elasticized waistband has been added for improved comfort, as desired by our students.

Shirts

The shirts will be streamlined, with one Formal Long Sleeve White Check Shirt worn by all students from Prep to Year 12. In line with the guiding principles of our uniform review, this approach ensures a modern, comfortable and contemporary look.

The Blue Check Summer Uniform Shirt will remain as an option for all students in Terms 1 and 4, and can be worn with the new Navy Skirt, Trousers or Shorts.

The White Check Shirt is always worn tucked in, whilst the Blue Check Shirt may be worn untucked.

Socks

Navy socks must be worn with the summer uniform, and navy socks or tights with the formal uniform. White sports socks must only be worn with the sports uniform.

Early Learning Centre (ELC) Uniform

A new uniform was introduced in 2024 for our Early Learning Centre students. It aligns with the current Sports Uniform allowing continued wear into the Junior years. Starting in 2025, all ELC students will be required to wear this new uniform.

Puffer vest introduced beyond the ELC

An optional uniform item, all ages of St Michael’s will be able to purchase a puffer vest in time for winter.

To support community spirit, St Michael’s staff and parents are invited to purchase the puffer vest for wear on-campus and at major community events.

Sports Uniform

The legacy ‘flag’ emblem will be replaced by the School Crest on Sports uniforms, and the ‘SMGS’ acronym will be added to the shorts, pants, and skirts.

The old Sports Uniform stock will be phased out by our Uniform suppliers, Bob Stewart, by end of the 2024.

New ‘Firsts’ uniforms for the Senior School will be launched in 2025 to coincide with our 130 Years celebrations.

Second-Hand Uniform Shop (SHU)

The SHU Shop will continue to offer second-hand Core and Sports Uniform items.

By the end of 2025, SHU will no longer stock the blue ‘girls’ blazer, current tunic, skirts, or legacy PE uniforms.

All superceded stock will be forwarded to our Sustainability partners at Upparel or the Katalyst Foundation for textile recycling or charitable upcycling.

Questions and Answers

Can my child/ren wear a combination of Uniform editions during the phasing-in period?

Yes. During the phasing-in period, students may wear both updated and superseded pieces together. We recommend purchasing the updated uniform items when buying new pieces.

Can girls purchase the striped blazer from SHU, or inherit their brother's, for example?

Yes. Current students are welcome to source a striped blazer second-hand, however, Bob Stewart will be ordering sizes and tailorings with all genders in mind. It is an individual choice based on comfort.

Will the new uniform be more expensive?

Our suppliers have ensured that cost increases for the new uniform items are kept to a minimum.
