St. Mary’s Community It is with great pleasure that we present to you this comprehensive Report on Philanthropy for the 2022-2023 school year. This report represents a culmination of our collective efforts, dedication and unwavering commitment to impact the lives of our students and celebrate the beautiful community that is St. Mary’s!

A Year of Impact: Once again, our community hit inspiring milestones. We had over 500 volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Our event attendance was record-breaking and our families supported the many fundraising efforts that are crucial to the long-term sustainability of St. Mary’s. These contributions speak to the heart of our school and allow us to continue to innovate, motivate and educate the future leaders of our world.

We understand the importance of transparency in our endeavors. To this end, our report includes a detailed financial overview of the funds raised, allocated and utilized for philanthropic causes. Your support of the St. Mary’s Fund, our Scholar Program, and Design The Future, our exciting new capital project, allowed us to achieve an impressive $2,922,000 in pledges and donations. We are so incredibly thankful for all that you have made possible.

Philanthropy is an ongoing journey, and within this report, you will also see our future goals and aspirations. You will get a glimpse into the plans for our new spaces and our upcoming capital campaign, Design The Future, which embodies our beliefs and values. It combines our vision for an outstanding campus with our mission to develop world-sized hearts and world-class minds.

We recognize that no strategic, important endeavor can thrive without the support and dedication of a multitude of individuals. The St. Mary’s Fund Impact Program Enhancements

Arts Program

• The Fund supports programs like Middle School Intersession, allowing us to offer unique local and international opportunities.

• We have enhanced and added new offerings to the Arts Programme, including Media Arts and Dance.

• The Lower School implemented a new Passport Program at the beginning of the school year to outline clear social and emotional behavioral expectations for the students.

• The Fund supports the Sillers’ Seeds Garden, used schoolwide, enhancing the curriculum and providing produce for the Green Family Commons.

St. Mary’s Fund

MAKING AN IMPACT

• This year we added new performances to the Performing Arts Program in all grades.

• We introduced a new annual Winter Market, which showcases many of our Arts programs, including the holiday performance.

• The Arts Department will host a Film Festival in June.

• Thanks to the Fund, we formed the Discovery Program in Middle School, a robust offering of classes where teachers can continue cultivating our students’ hearts and minds and building passion, interest, knowledge and skills.

Safety and Facilities Improvements

Professional Development and Additional Faculty

• The Fund provided a no-climb fence along the back property line and additional campus lighting for increased security.

• Thanks to the Fund, we hired additional Instructional Assistants (IAs) for each Grade 4 and Grade 5 class.

Every grade, Early Preschool through Grade 5, has a full-time dedicated IA. • The St. Mary’s Fund supports professional development for our beloved teachers.

• Our entire Middle School team attended a two-day IB training class over the summer, and this spring our Lower School lead teachers received additional IB training.

The St. Mary’s Fund makes a profound impact on our students’ lives through enhanced programming, professional development and technology upgrades. We are immensely grateful for your support in shaping an unlimited future for them.

Below are a few examples of how gifts have impacted the St. Mary’s student experience and various aspects of school life.

ST. MARY’S

• We added a new Design Teacher to the Innovation Department to support its growing program.

Technology Upgrades • This year, we added a second Innovation Lab to supplement the growing Design Programme.

• We purchased a new laser cutter for our Innovation Lab. • We purchased a new software platform, Toddle for Middle School to implement a more robust IB grading system.

• We added shade structures outside the K, Grade 2 and Grade 4 classrooms. The system provides shade to the classrooms and allows greater outdoor space utilization.

• We added a new media arts room to support our newly enhanced Media Arts Programme in Middle School.

Supporting our Youngest Falcons • Thanks to the Fund, our EEP has benefited from an enhanced social-emotional curriculum, including a growing library.

• During Halloween, each EEP classroom was “booed” by another teacher, resulting in getting items from the teachers’ wish lists — such as games, Lincoln Logs, magnetic cubes and much more.

• Thanks to the SMF, the EEP playground has a reading area with appropriate-sized seating and furniture and a stage equipped with musical instruments and a karaoke machine — loved by all students.

• The EEP program has a teacher dedicated to helping students with fine motor skills. The Fund provided professional development for this role and supplies needed to work with the students.

The Future is Theirs to Design At St. Mary’s, our vision is to prepare and inspire children to become courageous, caring, global citizens and enlightened leaders of tomorrow — those with worldsized hearts; world-class minds. As Orange County’s only Early Education through Grade 8 International Baccalaureate and Design Thinking school, we have a distinctive educational model coupled with a culture of care, support, and innovation.

Design Thinking is a powerful tool for creating a better future, instilling confidence in every student to be part of positive change, regardless of the problem’s scale. As our campus has evolved over the years, we now need facilities that allow us to fully execute our Design Thinking education program, as well as refresh our early education program spaces. That’s where the Design the Future campaign comes in.

As we embark on the multi-year Design the Future Campaign we are excited to share the design work that has carried us to this point. We look forward to sharing more in the coming months about this transformative project.

DESIGN THE FUTURE CAMPAIGN

Project Details: A New Building Will Complete The Master Plan.

1. A new two-story, 28,000-square-foot building that will house the: Design Center • The second floor will be state-of-the-art science, technology, and fine arts labs, for ALL of our Falcon students to foster. collaboration, hands-on learning, and creative problem-solving.

• Specialized Labs: Empathy Lab, Idea Lab, Garage, Falcon Workshop, Tool Shed, and Studio for research, collaboration, and prototyping.

• Gallery: Dedicated space for students to showcase work and inspire others.

Early Education Center A new learning space on the first floor for our youngest Falcons, nurturing creativity and intellectual growth, with flexible classrooms and a Learning Hub for gathering and eating. The rooms will be configured so that teachers can accommodate the various needs of each student while maximizing imagination, play, wonder, and reflection.

2. Outdoor And Community Spaces New outdoor spaces creating green, park-like areas for gathering, learning, and quiet reflection, including a new Community Hub with a coffee cafe and student store. Community defines St. Mary’s, and these spaces provide areas for families to connect in the seemingly simple moments when we come together.

It combines our vision for an outstanding campus with our mission to develop world-sized hearts and world-class minds.

The fundraiser themed “Let’s Rock the Boat” treated more than 300 St. Mary’s community members to a lively evening of cocktails, dinner, dancing, fundraising and more. The Fund-a-Need for the 2023 Gala goes directly toward funding the St. Mary’s Scholar Program. The Scholar Program provides full-tuition scholarships to qualified students.
