All-Girls High School
Shadow Day
BE A WILDCAT FOR A DAY SHADOW PROGRAM
St. Mary’s Academy is Denver’s premier independent, Catholic school, founded in 1864 by the Sisters of Loretto. We welcome students of every culture, faith, and economic background. The all-girls High School empowers young women through rigorous academics, integrated service learning, the arts, athletics, and leadership in a highly supportive and engaging community. Discover the wonder of our school as you meet and shadow a student host for the day—and make new friends! Better together. If you know someone who attends St. Mary’s Academy High School and would like to shadow her, just let us know. And if you’re interested in shadowing on the same day as a friend, that’s possible, too. You will each have a student host, but we’ll work to make sure you and your friend can connect to compare notes or attend a class together.
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE, AND WHY?
Shadow Day attendance is required of any student interested in applying to the High School. Shadow days begin in October for current Grade 8 and transfer students. Shadow days allow you to attend classes, sample our electives, meet our excellent teachers, and engage with other dynamic Wildcats.
WHAT TIME DOES MY SHADOW DAY START?
Plan to arrive at 8:15 a.m. for the 8:30 a.m. class start. This allows time for you to park and check-in. Shadow Day wraps up at 2 p.m. When you arrive at St. Mary’s Academy, you will go to the northeast entrance of the High School. The admissions team and student host will be ready to greet you. You will also pick up your schedule for the day.
WHAT DO I DO FOR LUNCH?
Don’t worry about bringing a lunch. It’s on us! St. Mary’s Academy High School offers a different lunch vendor every day. It could be Chez Jose, Modern Market, Tokyo Joe’s, or China Beijing Restaurant, to name a few. And Friday is, without fail, pizza day. You are welcome to pack your lunch if you prefer.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
The dress code at St. Mary’s Academy High School is relaxed, casual, and comfortable. Our High School students typically wear jeans, T-shirts, dresses and athletic attire. We honor your individuality and sense of style.
WHAT CLASSES WILL I GET TO SEE?
SMA High School employs a block schedule. You’ll attend three 90-minute classes, and/ or visit a world language or art class, which typically last 45 minutes.
WHO IS MY HOST? I chose St. Mary’s Academy because of the many opportunities SMirls can pursue throughout their high school journey. Between clubs, sports, academics, and travel opportunities, the SMA student experience is limitless. ~ Current SMA Senior
You’ll spend the day with a Grade 10, 11, or 12 student. She’ll introduce you to her teachers and friends, and show you around campus. We match you with a student host who shares your academic and extracurricular interests. It’s an easy way to join in!
DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?
You won’t need to bring much, simply your willingness to engage in classes and meet new friends. Please keep cell phones shut down and put away during classes.
