Powering the next generation

St Margaret’s College Rowing

A legacy shaken: A future reimagined

The Christchurch earthquakes reshaped our city - and our rowing programme was no exception. Once a proud hub of achievement and community, St Margaret’s College’s original rowing facility was left damaged beyond repair, leaving our rowers without a permanent home.

In true St Margaret’s spirit, we didn’t stop. We adapted. With grit and ingenuity, we bound together a series of shipping containers to create a makeshift rowing base. This temporary structure became a symbol of resilience, determination, and unity. For years, this container facility served us well. It gave us shelter, storage, and a place to belong.

But time has moved on, and so have we. Our rowing programme has expanded. We’ve trained harder, raced stronger, and achieved more than ever before. And now, we’ve outgrown our container homephysically and in ambition.

It’s time to build a facility that reflects the excellence of our rowing programme, the pride of our community, and the legacy we’re shaping for future generations.

Now is the moment to rebuild - stronger, smarter, and with purpose.

Raising the bar: Our vision for a world-class rowing facility

Why this matters

We’re launching a bold campaign to redevelop our rowing facility into a centre of excellence where current and future St Margaret’s rowers can thrive.

The new facility will include:

• a state-of-the-art boathouse and storage

• erg and weight training areas designed for peak performance

• warm-up and recovery zones

• spaces for coaching, video analysis, and team briefings.

This isn’t just about bricks and mortar - it’s about building a home where true champions are made.
