It is with pleasure that I extend my welcome to all who embark on this pivotal journey with us. As the Foundation Chair, an Old Girl and past parent, I am honoured to introduce this capital campaign dedicated to the establishment and fortification of our Endowment Fund.
Since The Foundation’s inception in 2009, our purpose has remained steadfast: to generate and steward gifts and donations from the College community to support St Margaret’s College to realise its vision - to create empathetic, confident and connected global citizens, who strive to make a positive difference.
However, in the ever-evolving landscape of education, long-term viability is paramount. It is not enough to merely address the challenges of today; we must equip ourselves to meet the needs of future generations. This is where the vision for our Endowment Fund takes root.
The establishment of an Endowment Fund represents a cornerstone in our journey towards long-term impact and sustainability. It embodies our dedication to safeguarding the future of our College, ensuring that its vision endures for years to come.

About The Foundation
The St Margaret’s College Foundation was established in 2009 to support the College in its vision, and to oversee the management and prudent investment of gifts and donations from our College community.
Following the Canterbury earthquakes, The Foundation successfully generated and managed significant funds to enable the redevelopment and rebuild of the College facilities.
The Foundation operates as an independent professional entity and is a registered charitable trust, run under the direction of a Board of Trustees.
Robust policies and processes have been developed to ensure the professional and prudent management, investment and disbursement of all funds. The Trustees work closely with the St Margaret’s College Trust Board and Management in support of the long-term needs of the College.

Why an Endowment Fund?
An Endowment Fund serves as the cornerstone of The Foundation’s vision for sustainability. It provides a stable and permanent source of funds, allowing the College to continue empowering girls to live, learn and lead well into the future.
As we navigate through ever-changing economic landscapes, an Endowment Fund provides both the stability to weather the challenges and the flexibility to seize opportunities.
Our Priorities
A fund structure has been established to offer greater clarity and transparency to The Foundation. This structure highlights the focus on creating a meaningful long-term contribution to SMC whilst also recognising ongoing priority areas and opportunities for giving.
All gifts and donations received by The Foundation are allocated into two funds - the Foundation Fund and the Special Projects Fund. The Foundation Fund is an Endowment Fund, held in perpetuity to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of SMC. Interest from the Foundation Fund, together with resources from our Special Projects Fund, will be used to support our strategic fundraising priorities.
