ORDER OF SERVICE

OPENING PRAYER

INTROIT HYMN: 211 - Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty

1

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!

Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee: holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty! God in three persons, Blessed Trinity!

2 Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee, casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea: cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee, which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

3

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee, though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see, only thou art holy, there is none beside thee perfect in power, in love, and purity.

4 Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!

All thy works shall praise thy name, in earth, and sky, and sea: holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty! God in three persons, Blessèd Trinity!

HYMN: 212 - Three in one, and One in Three

1 Three in One, and One in Three, ruler of the earth and sea, hear us, while we lift to thee holy chant and psalm.

2 Light of lights! With morning shine; lift on us thy light divine; and let charity benign breathe on us her balm.

3

Light of lights! When falls the even, let it close on sin forgiven; fold us in the peace of heaven; shed a holy calm.

4 Three in One, and One in Three, dimly here we worship thee; with the Saints hereafter we hope to bear the palm.

Amen.

PRESIDENT: Kindly be seated for the ministry of the word.

FIRST LESSON: Genesis 1:1-2:4a [Ms. Christina Edwards]

READER: A Reading from the Word of God, written in the book of Genesis, chapter one, beginning at the first verse.

ILLUMINATION:

READER: In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. And God said, “Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” So God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome. And it was so. God called the dome Sky. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day. And God said, “Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. Then God

said, “Let the earth put forth vegetation: plants yielding seed, and fruit trees of every kind on earth that bear fruit with the seed in it.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation: plants yielding seed of every kind, and trees of every kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the third day. And God said, “Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, and let them be lights in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. God made the two great lights the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. God set them in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day. And God said, “Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the dome of the sky.” So God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, of every kind, with which the waters swarm, and every winged bird of every kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals of the earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind, and everything that creeps upon the ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.” So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.” God said, “See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their multitude. And on the seventh day God finished

the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation. These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created.

READER: The word of the Lord.

ALL: Thanks be to God.

PSALM 8

1. O Lord our Governor, how excellent is thy Name in all the world : thou that hast set thy glory above the heavens!

2. Out of the mouth of very babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength, because of thine enemies : that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

3. For I will consider thy heavens, even the works of thy fingers : the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained.

4. What is man, that thou art mindful of him : and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

5. Thou madest him lower than the angels : to crown him with glory and worship.

6. Thou makest him to have dominion of the works of thy hands : and thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet;

7. All sheep and oxen : yea, and the beasts of the field;

8. The fowls of the air, and the fishes of the sea : and whatsoever walketh through the paths of the seas.

9. O Lord our Governor : how excellent is thy Name in all the world!

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

SECOND LESSON: 2 Corinthians 13:11-13 [Ms Dana Marshall]

READER: A reading from the word of God written in the second book to the Corinthians, chapter thirteen beginning at the eleventh verse.

ILLUMINATION:

READER: Finally, brothers and sisters, farewell. Put things in order, listen to my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.

READER: The word of the Lord. ALL: Thanks be to God.

GRADUAL HYMN: 241- Thou, whose almighty word (verses 1-3)

1 Thou, whose almighty word chaos and darkness heard, and took their flight; hear us, we humbly pray, and, where the Gospel-day sheds not its glorious ray, let there be light.

2 Thou, who didst come to bring on thy redeeming wing healing and sight, health to the sick in mind, sight to the inly blind, O now to all mankind let there be light.

3 Spirit of truth and love, life-giving holy Dove, speed forth thy flight; move on the water's face, bearing the lamp of grace, and in earth's darkest place let there be light.

THE GOSPEL: Matthew 28:16-20

DEACON: The Lord be with you. ALL: And also with you.

DEACON: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew the twenty-eighth chapter beginning at the sixteenth verse.

ALL: Glory to Christ our Saviour

ILLUMINATION:

DEACON: The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

DEACON: This is the Gospel of Christ

ALL: Praise to Christ our Lord

HYMN: 241 (verse 4)

4 Holy and blessèd Three, glorious Trinity, Wisdom, Love, Might; boundless as ocean's tide, rolling in fullest pride, through the earth, far and wide let there be light.

THE SERMON

PRESIDENT: Let us now stand and reaffirm our faith in our Lord Jesus Christ in the words of the Nicene Creed.

NICENE CREED [BCP page 104]

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen or unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfilment of the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son He is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayer for Young People (BCP Page 83)

ALL: God our Father, we pray for our young people growing up in an unstable and confusing world. Show them that your ways give more meaning to life than the ways of the world, and that following you is better than chasing after selfish goals. Help them to take failure not as a measure of their worth, but as a chance for a new start. Give them strength to hold their faith in you, and to keep alive their joy in your creation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for God’s protection during this Hurricane Season

ALL: Almighty God, governor of all things in Heaven and earth: Receive now, we pray, our supplications for protection from storms or hurricanes. We acknowledge that we are unworthy for the least of your mercies, yet we humbly pray that you will so hold the winds of heaven that we may dwell safely without fear of evil; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen.

CONCLUDING PRAYER

PRESIDENT: Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles, “Peace I give to you; my own peace I leave with you:” Regard not our sins, but the faith of your Church, and give to us the peace and unity of that heavenly City, where with the Father and the Holy Spirit, you live and reign, now and for ever. Amen.

ACT OF PENITENCE (BCP Page 123)

PRESIDENT: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins, and cleanse us from all un-righteousness.

A period of silence shall be kept.

PRESIDENT: Let us therefore confess our sins.

FORM B (BCP Page 124)

We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves; we have not loved ourselves as we ought. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen

OFFERTORY HYMNS: 208, 228

HYMN: 208 - Bright the vision that delighted

1 Bright the vision that delighted once the sight of Judah's seer; sweet the countless tongues united to entrance the prophet's ear.

2

Round the Lord in glory seated cherubim and seraphim filled his temple, and repeated each to each the alternate hymn:

3 ‘Lord, thy glory fills the heaven; earth is with its fullness stored; unto thee be glory given, holy, holy, holy, Lord.’

4 Heaven is still with glory ringing, earth takes up the angels' cry, ‘holy, holy, holy,’ singing, ‘Lord of Hosts, the Lord most high.’

5 With his seraph train before him, with his holy church below, thus unite we to adore him, bid we thus our anthem flow:

6 Lord, thy glory fills the heaven; earth is with its fullness stored; unto thee be glory given, holy, holy, holy, Lord.

HYMN: 228 - Immortal, invisible, God only wise

1 Immortal, invisible, God only wise, in light inaccessible hid from our eyes, most blessèd, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.

2 Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might; thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

3

4

To all life thou givest, to both great and small; in all life thou livest, the true life of all; we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, and wither and perish; but naught changeth thee.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light, thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight; all laud we would render: O help us to see 'tis only the splendour of light hideth thee.

THE PRESENTATION OF OFFERING - FORM B (BCP Page 126)

PRESIDENT AND PEOPLE

Father, we offer to you these gifts which you have given us; this bread, this wine, this money. With them we offer ourselves, our lives, and our work, to become through your Holy Spirit a reasonable, holy, and lively sacrifice. As this bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ, so may we and all your people become channels of your love; through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYERS

SURSUM CORDA

PRESIDENT: The Lord be with you.

ALL: And also with you.

PRESIDENT: Lift up your hearts.

ALL: We lift them up to the Lord.

PRESIDENT: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

ALL: It is right to give God thanks and praise.

PRESIDENT: It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Father Almighty, everlasting God:

For in the mystery of Your Godhead, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, You have revealed Your glory; three Persons equal in majesty, undivided in splendour, yet one Lord, one God, ever to be worshipped and glorified.

Therefore, we praise you; joining our voices with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER C (BCP

Page 137)

PRESIDENT: We give thanks to you Lord our God, for the goodness and love you have made known to us in creation; in calling Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus your Son.

For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Saviour and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life.

For, on the night that he was betrayed He took bread; and when He had given thanks to you, He broke it and gave it to His disciples, and said, "Take this, and eat it: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me."

And after supper He took the cup of wine; and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you; This is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me."

PRESIDENT: Therefore, Father, according to His command,

ALL: We remember His death; We proclaim His resurrection; We await His coming in glory.

PRESIDENT: And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine.

We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the sacrament of the Body of Christ and His Blood of the New Covenant. Unite us to your Son in His sacrifice that we, made acceptable in Him, may be sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ, and make them new, and bring us to that city of light where you dwell with all your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation.

By whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and ever.

ALL: Amen

THE LORD’S PRAYER

PRESIDENT: As our Saviour has taught us, so we pray:

HYMN: 552 (MP) - Our Father who is in heaven

1 Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, hallowed be Your name.

2 On earth as it is in heaven, hallowed be Your name, give us this day our daily bread, hallowed be Your name.

3 Forgive us all our trespasses, hallowed be Your name, as we forgive those who trespass against us, hallowed be Your name.

4 And lead us not into temptation, hallowed be Your name, but deliver us from all that is evil, hallowed be Your name.

5 For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, hallowed be Your name, for ever and for ever, hallowed be Your name.

Amen, amen, it shall be so, hallowed be Your name, amen, amen, it shall be so, hallowed be Your name.

THE BREAKING OF BREAD (BCP Page 145)

PRESIDENT: We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.

ALL: Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.

THE AGNUS DEI (BCP Page 147)

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: grant us peace.

THE INVITATION (BCP Page 145-146)

FORM B

DEACON: The Gifts of God for the People of God.

ALL: Our souls will feast and be satisfied, and we will sing glad songs of praise to Him.

COMMUNION HYMNS: 587, 584, 215

HYMN: 587 - Father, who dost thy children feed

1 Father, who dost thy children feed with manna rained from above; who dost the saving chalice give, filled by thy hand in wondrous love: we praise thee for thy mercies sent to us in this great sacrament.

2

O Word-made-flesh, whom we adore, the living bread sent down from heaven, whose wondrous passion here shown forth is the great pledge of sin forgiven; we praise thee for thy mercies sent to us in this great sacrament.

3 O Holy Spirit, who dost deign these earthly elements to bless, making the bread his flesh to be, the wine his blood, as we confess; we praise thee for thy mercies sent to us in this great sacrament.

4 Ye holy angels, who, with us, around God's altar lowly bow, adoring there the Crucified, whose precious death is pleaded now, O praise him for his mercies sent to us in this great sacrament!

5 Ye blessed saints, enthroned on high, who once the paths of earth did tread, who reached in safety God's abode, as strengthened by this living bread; O praise him for his mercies sent to us in this great sacrament!

6 O Holy Father, Holy Son, and Holy Spirit, whom we love, guide, strengthen, save us here below, and bring us to our home above, to praise thee for thy mercies sent to us in this great sacrament!

HYMN 584 - Father God, the Lord, Creator

1 Father God, the Lord, Creator, by whose hand we all are fed,

in your mercy re-create us at the breaking of the bread.

2 Christ our Lord, be present with us, risen victorious from the dead! In Your mercy we know you, in the breaking of the bread.

3 Holy Spirit, God's empowering, by whose life the Church is led; in your mercy, send us strengthened from the breaking of the bread.

4 Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, hear our praises - sung and said. From our hearts comes our thanksgiving For the breaking of the bread.

HYMN: 215 - Come, living God, when least expected

1 Come, living God, when least expected, when minds are dull and hearts are cold, through sharpening word and warm affection revealing truths as yet untold.

2 Break from the tomb in which we hide you to speak again in startling ways; break through the words in which we bind you to resurrect our lifeless praise.

3 Come now, as once you came to Moses within the bush alive with flame, or to Elijah on the mountain, by silence pressing home your claim.

4 So, let our minds be sharp to read you in sight or sound or printed page, and let us greet you in our neighbours, in ardent youth or mellow age.

5 Then, through our gloom, your Son will meet us as vivid truth and living Lord, exploding doubt and disillusion to scatter hope and joy abroad.

6 Then we will share his radiant brightness and, blazing through the dreadof night, illuminate by love and reason, for those in darkness, faith's delight

HYMNS FOR BLESSING: 232, 424

HYMN: 232 - My God, how wonderful thou art

1 My God, how wonderful thou art thy majesty how bright, how beautiful thy mercy-seat, in depths of burning light!

2 How dread are thine eternal years, O everlasting Lord, by prostrate spirits day and night incessantly adored!

3 How wonderful, how beautiful, the sight of thee must be, thine endless wisdom, boundless power, and awful purity!

4 Oh, how I fear thee, Living God, with deepest, tenderest fears, and worship thee with trembling hope, and penitential tears!

5 Yet I may love thee too, O Lord, almighty as thou art, for thou hast stooped to ask of me the love of my poor heart.

6

No earthly father loves like thee, no mother, e'er so mild, bears and forbears as thou hast done with me thy sinful child.

7 Father of Jesus, love's reward! What rapture will it be, prostrate before thy throne to lie, and gaze and gaze on thee.

Hymn: 424 - Lead us, heavenly Father lead us

1 Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us o'er the world's tempestuous sea; guard us, guide us, keep us, feed us, for we have no help but thee; yet possessing every blessing, if our God our Father be.

2 Saviour, breathe forgiveness o'er us, all our weakness thou dost know; thou didst tread this earth before us, thou didst feel its keenest woe; lone and dreary, faint and weary, through the desert thou didst go.

3 Spirit of our God, descending, fill our hearts with heavenly joy, love with every passion blending, pleasure that can never cloy; thus provided, pardoned, guided, nothing can our peace destroy.
