For the beauty of each hour of the day and of the night, hill and vale, and tree and flower, sun and moon and stars of light, Lord of all, to thee we raise this our grateful hymn of praise.

3

For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth, and friends above, pleasures pure and undefiled, Lord of all, to thee we raise this our grateful hymn of praise.

The collect for Forest Sunday is in the bulletin. Tomorrow is the Feast of the Holy Cross and the collect is found on page 188. COLLECTS PRESIDENT: The Lord be with you. ALL: And also with you. PRESIDENT: Let us pray. Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost

(BCP page 178)

PRESIDENT: O God, because without you we are not able to please you, mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Feast of Creation in Christ PRESIDENT: Holy and eternal God, you are the Maker of heaven and earth; you are the Word through whom all things were made; and you are the Spirit, the giver of life: draw us into the mystery of your love, that with all creation we may proclaim your praise, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Feast of the Holy Cross

(BCP page 188)

PRESIDENT: Almighty God, whose Son our Saviour Jesus Christ was lifted high upon the cross that he might draw the whole world to himself: Mercifully grant that we, who glory in the mystery of our redemption, may have grace to take up our cross and follow him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen. PRESIDENT: Kindly be seated for the ministry of the word. FIRST LESSON: Genesis 2:4b-22

[Mr. Steven Yearwood]

READER: A Reading from the Word of God, written in the book of Genesis, chapter two beginning at the fourth verse. ILLUMINATION: READER: In the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, when no plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up-for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no one to till the ground; but a stream would rise from the earth, and water the whole face of the ground-- then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being. And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed. Out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. A river flows out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it divides and becomes four branches. The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one that flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; and the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there. The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one that flows around the whole land of Cush. The name of the third river is Tigris, which flows east of Assyria.

And the fourth river is the Euphrates. The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, "You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die." Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.’ So out of the ground the Lord God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every animal of the field; but for the man there was not found a helper as his partner. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. READER: The word of the Lord. ALL: Thanks be to God. PSALM 139:13-16 13.

I will give thanks unto thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made : marvellous are thy works, and that my soul knoweth right well.

14.

My bones are not hid from thee : though I be made secretly, and fashioned beneath in the earth.

15.

Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being imperfect : and in thy book were all my members written;

16.

Which day by day were fashioned : when as yet there was none of them.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. SECOND LESSON: Acts 17:22a, 24-28

[Justice Anthony Blackman]

READER: A reading from the word of God written in the Acts of the Apostles, chapter seventeen beginning at the twenty-second verse. ILLUMINATION:

READER: Paul stood in front of the Areopagus and said, “Athenians, I see how extremely religious you are in every way. For as I went through the city and looked carefully at the objects of your worship, I found among them an altar with the inscription, ‘To an unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. The God who made the world and everything in it, he who is Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in shrines made by human hands, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mortals life and breath and all things. From one ancestor he made all nations to inhabit the whole earth, and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where they would live, so that they would search for God and perhaps grope for him and find him - though indeed he is not far from each one of us. For ‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we too are his offspring.’ READER: The word of the Lord. ALL: Thanks be to God. GRADUAL HYMN: 451 - Love divine, all loves excelling 1

Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heaven, to earth come down, fix in us thy humble dwelling, all thy faithful mercies crown. Jesu, thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love thou art; visit us with thy salvation, enter every trembling heart.

2

Come, almighty to deliver, let us all thy grace receive; suddenly return, and never, nevermore thy temples leave. Thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above, pray, and praise thee, without ceasing, glory in thy perfect love.

(verses 1&2)

THE GOSPEL: John 3:1-16 DEACON: The Lord be with you. ALL: And also with you. DEACON: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John, the third chapter beginning at the first verse. ALL: Glory to Christ our Saviour ILLUMINATION: DEACON: There was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. He came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God.” Jesus answered him, “Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be astonished that I said to you, ‘You must be born from above.’ The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered him, “Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things? “Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life”. GOSPEL: This is the Gospel of Christ ALL: Praise to Christ our Lord

HYMN: 451 3

(verse 3)

Finish then thy new creation; pure and spotless let us be; let us see thy great salvation perfectly restored in thee. changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place, till we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise.

THE HOMILY CREED SUMMARY ALL: God creates all things, Renews all things and celebrates all things. This we believe. Earth is a sanctuary, A sacred planet filled with God’s presence, A home for us to share with our kin. This we believe. God became flesh and blood, A piece of Earth, A human being called Jesus. Who lived and breathed and spoke among us, suffered and died on a cross For all human beings and for all creation. This we believe. The risen Jesus Is the Christ at the centre of creation, Reconciling all things to God, Renewing all creation and filling the cosmos. This we believe.

The Holy Spirit renews life in creation, Groans in empathy with a suffering creation And waits with us for the rebirth of creation. This we believe. We believe that with Christ we will rise And with Christ we will celebrate a new creation. INTERCESSION FORM H

OFFERTORY HYMNS: 228, 283 HYMN: 228 - Immortal, invisible, God only wise 1

Immortal, invisible, God only wise, in light inaccessible hid from our eyes, most blessèd, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.

2

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might; thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

3

To all life thou givest, to both great and small; in all life thou livest, the true life of all; we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, and wither and perish; but naught changeth thee.

4

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light, thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight; all laud we would render; O help us to see 'tis only the splendour of light hideth thee.

HYMN: 283 - O Holy Ghost, thy people bless 1

O Holy Ghost, thy people bless who long to feel thy might, and fain would grow in holiness as children of the light.

2

To thee we bring, who art the Lord, our selves to be thy throne; let every thought, and deed, and word thy pure dominion own.

3

Lifegiving Spirit, o'er us move, as on the formless deep; give life and order, light and love, where now is death or sleep.

4

Great gift of our ascended King, his saving truth reveal; our tongues inspire his praise to sing, our hearts his love to feel.

5

True Wind of Heav'n, from south or north, for joy or chastening, blow; the garden-spices shall spring forth if thou wilt bid them flow.

6

O Holy Ghost, of sevenfold might, all graces come from thee; grant us to know and serve aright one God in Persons Three.

Blessed be God forever. Amen. THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYERS SURSUM CORDA PRESIDENT: The Lord be with you. ALL: And also with you.

PRESIDENT: Lift up your hearts. ALL: We lift them up to the Lord. PRESIDENT: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. ALL: It is right to give God thanks and praise. PRESIDENT: It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Father Almighty, everlasting God: For by water and the Holy Spirit you have made us a new people in Jesus Christ our Lord, to show forth your glory in all the world. Therefore, we praise you; joining our voices with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: ALL: Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might; heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. EUCHARISTIC PRAYER C

(BCP Page 137)

PRESIDENT: We give thanks to you Lord our God, for the goodness and love you have made known to us in creation; in calling Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Saviour and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. For, on the night that he was betrayed He took bread; and when He had given thanks to you, He broke it and gave it to His disciples, and said, "Take this, and eat it: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me."

And after supper He took the cup of wine; and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you; This is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me." PRESIDENT: Therefore, Father, according to His command, ALL: We remember His death; We proclaim His resurrection; we await His coming in glory. PRESIDENT: And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the sacrament of the Body of Christ and His Blood of the New Covenant. Unite us to your Son in His sacrifice that we, made acceptable in Him, may be sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ, and make them new, and bring us to that city of light where you dwell with all your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation. By whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and ever. ALL: Amen THE LORD’S PRAYER HYMN: 552 (MP) – Our Father Who is in Heaven 1

Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, hallowed be Your name.

2

On earth as it is in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Give us this day our daily bread, hallowed be Your name.

3

Forgive us all our trespasses, hallowed be Your name, As we forgive those who trespass against us, hallowed be Your name.

4

And lead us not into temptation, hallowed be Your name, But deliver us from all that is evil, hallowed be Your name.

5

For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, hallowed be Your name For ever and for ever, hallowed be Your name.

6

Amen, amen, it shall be so, hallowed be Your name, amen, amen, it shall be so, hallowed be Your name.

THE BREAKING OF BREAD (BCP Page 145) PRESIDENT: God of promise, You have prepared a Banquet for us. ALL:

Happy are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb.

THE AGNUS DEI (BCP Page 147) Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: grant us peace.

THE INVITATION (BCP Page 146) FORM B DEACON: The Gifts of God for the People of God. ALL: Our souls will feast and be satisfied, and we will sing glad songs of praise to Him. COMMUNION HYMNS: 600, 294, 238 HYMN: 600 - Jesu, thou joy of loving hearts! 1

Jesu, thou joy of loving hearts! Thou fount of life, thou light of men! From the best bliss that earth imparts we turn unfilled to thee again.

2

Thy truth unchanged hath ever stood; thou savest those that on thee call; to them that seek thee thou art good; to them that find thee all in all.

3

We taste thee, O thou Living Bread, and long to feast upon thee still; we drink of thee, the fountain-head, and thirst our souls from thee to fill.

4

Our restless spirits yearn for thee, where'er our changeful lot is cast; glad, when thy gracious smile we see, blest, when our faith can hold thee fast.

5

O Jesu, ever with us stay; make all our moments calm and bright; chase the dark night of sin away, shed o'er the world thy holy light.

HYMN: 294 - Spirit of God within me 1

Spirit of God within me, possess my human frame; fan the dull embers of my heart, stir up the living flame. Strive till that image Adam lost, new-minted and restored, in shining splendour brightly bears the likeness of the Lord.

2

Spirit of truth within me, possess my thought and mind; lighten anew the inward eye by Satan rendered blind; shine on the words that wisdom speaks, and grant me power to see the truth made known to all in Christ, and in that truth be free.

3

Spirit of love within me, possess my hands and heart; break through the bonds of self-concern that seeks to stand apart; grant me the love that suffers long, that hopes, believes and bears, the love fulfilled in sacrifice that cares as Jesus cares.

4

Spirit of life within me, possess this life of mine; come as the wind of heaven's breath, come as the fire divine! Spirit of Christ, the living Lord, reign in this house of clay, till from its dust with Christ I rise to everlasting day.

HYMN: 238 - The Lord my pasture shall prepare 1

The Lord my pasture shall prepare, and feed me with a shepherd's care; his presence shall my wants supply, and guard me with a watchful eye; my noonday walks he shall attend and all my midnight hours defend.

2

When in the sultry glebe I faint or on the thirsty mountain pant, to fertile vales and dewy meads my weary, wandering steps he leads, where peaceful rivers, soft and slow, amid the verdant landscape flow.

3

Though in a bare and rugged way, through devious lonely wilds, I stray, thy bounty shall my pains beguile; the barren wilderness shall smile with sudden greens and herbage crowned, and streams shall murmur all around.

4

Though in the paths of death I tread, with gloomy horrors overspread, my steadfast heart shall fear no ill, for thou, O Lord, art with me still; thy friendly crook shall give me aid and guide me through the dreadful shade.

HYMNS FOR BLESSING: 641, 236 HYMN: 641 - All things bright and beautiful Refrain: All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, all things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all.

1

Each little flower that opens, each little bird that sings, he made their glowing colours, he made their tiny wings. Refrain:

2

The purple-headed mountain, the river running by, the sunset and the morning, that brightens up the sky; Refrain:

3

The cold wind in the winter, the pleasant summer sun, the ripe fruits in the garden, he made them everyone; Refrain:

4

The tall trees in the greenwood, the meadows where we play, the rushes by the water, we gather everyday; Refrain:

5

He gave us eyes to see them, and lips that we might tell, how great is God Almighty, who has made all things well. Refrain:

HYMN: 236 - O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder 1

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds thy hands have made; I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, thy power throughout the universe displayed:

Refrain Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee, how great thou art! How great thou art! Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee, how great thou art! How great thou art! 2

When through the woods and forest glades I wander, and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur, and hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze: Refrain

3

And when I think that God, his Son not sparing, sent him to die- I scarce can take it in: that on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, he bled and died to take away my sin: Refrain

4

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation and take me home - what joy shall fill my heart! Then shall I bow in humble adoration, and there proclaim, my God, how great thou art! Refrain

THE DISMISSAL POST COMMUNION PRAYER
