Situated in the heart of St Andrews, Scotland - the home of golf and the UK’s leading university - St Leonards School offers Summer Language and Activity Programmes to suit all interests. Combining English Language classes with bespoke multi-activity opportunities, St Leonards Summer School offers a unique experience overlooking sandy beaches and within historic grounds. The programme offers young people aged 10-16 a unique opportunity to learn English, have fun, experience new activities and make friends from all over the world.

OUR SUMMER PROGRAMMES Each course includes: • Three hours of English tuition every day (Monday-Friday) • Classes split by English ability • Small classes - maximum of 15 students per class • Six hours of our bespoke Leadership Development Programme • Weekly excursions • Souvenir t-shirt and water bottle • Accommodation in single or shared rooms (separate accommodation for girls and boys) • High levels of staff supervision • Excellent opportunities to practise English throughout the day

ENGLISH LANGUAGE EXPERIENCE | At the heart of our programme Our Summer Language School focuses on developing English communication skills, both in and out of the classroom, whilst having plenty of fun and trying new activities.

English lessons are tailored to provide opportunities for:

Students are taught in small classes based on ability, with a minimum of 15 hours per week. Lessons are led by expert and highly-qualified staff using engaging and meaningful topics.

Progress Tests Progress tests will take place at the end and beginning of the programme to correctly place students and monitor their progress.

DISCOVER SCOTLAND | Trips and Excursions Students will have the opportunity to explore the stunning Scottish scenery, cultural attractions, historic sights and more. There is so much to do in and around St Andrews. Trips may include: • Edinburgh • Glasgow • Dundee • Stirling

ISLAND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME - AD VITAM | ‘Educating young people for life’ At St Leonards the school motto is ‘Ad Vitam’ which means for life and this embodies the skills we aim to deliver on the Island Leadership Development Programme. The IB Learner Profile is embedded throughout, and as well as incorporating fun and exciting activities, the course is designed as a medium for developing ‘Core Leadership Skills’, which translate to other areas in a young person’s life.

Students will participate in activities that aim to embrace their individuality, allow them to step outside of their comfort zone, and experience new challenges that will develop their leadership and reflection skills. Our bespoke Island Leadership Development Programme allows students to embrace our Island (House) System as they collaborate to gain points for their Island whilst learning along the way.

Each activity is intended to help students develop self-awareness, take responsibility for time management, learn to negotiate, co-operate and analyse information.

MULTI-ACTIVITIES | Providing opportunities to grow and develop The Summer Language School runs in close conjunction with the Summer Activity Camp (designed for native and fluent English speakers), providing an opportunity to mix during afternoon and evening activities. All activities will be based around improvement, learning and enjoyment.

There is something for everyone to enjoy. Whether developing existing talents or learning new ones.

CARING FOR OUR STUDENTS | A home away from home Pastoral care and the safeguarding of our young people is of paramount importance and this sits at the heart of our Summer School programmes. We want students to feel at home with us. St Leonards promotes a warm, friendly sense of community, mirroring that of the boarding and day school during term time. Students will be supported by a full team of residential staff who will provide excellent pastoral support and guidance throughout the fortnight. With its central location in the town of St Andrews, St Leonards is surrounded by vibrant independent shops, cosy cafes, high street favourites and other amenities. Students will have opportunities to go ‘uptown’ to explore St Andrews, whether they wish to purchase treats or souvenirs, or simply see the sights in their free time.

EVENING ACTIVITIES Evening activities are part of our Summer School programme, whether they involve games, movie nights, quizzes, s’mores sessions or trips out in town. They are a chance for students to socialise and encourage conversational English opportunities and reflect on their day.

Students will enjoy activities with fluent or native English-speakers - great for learning English, making new friends and having fun.

The campus is well equipped for on-site activities, from pool and darts to board games, swimming, basketball in the gym and more. A two-minute walk from our campus is our favourite ice-cream parlour - Jannettas Gelateria - which is a firm favourite with our term-time students! There will be additional off-site activities available including cinema trips, ice-skating or bowling.
