A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Greetings to all our Saints Alumni! Dear SLCS Alumni,

I hope that this year has been kind so far and that you and your loved ones have remained healthy throughout the pandemic. We kept you in our prayers as we navigated through a school year unlike any other. You should be proud to note that your alma mater was able to begin the school year on time in August, and to continue providing both face-to-face, as well as remote instruction since then. It has not been easy for the teachers and staff, but they are committed to providing the absolute best Catholic education possible. Through it all, our faith kept us going long after our tired minds and bodies thought it would not be possible. We have learned so much in the process that will be put to good use in looking towards a “normal year” ahead. Having already made the decision to move all middle school students to a 1:1 program with Chromebooks and utilizing programs such as Google Classroom, our timing with remote instruction could not have been better. Teaching was able to take place simultaneously face to face and via ZOOM for students at home, as well as in satellite locations throughout the building. We even had students spread out in the gym, dining and band halls for social distancing. Fortunately, we are now confident in our ability to quickly transform instruction to meet any future disruptions. God always provides what we need and we feel very blessed. The theme this year was Transformation, which was appropriate considering we were able to creatively and completely transform learning to accomplish our mission. On a happier note, we are so excited to be arriving at our big 30th anniversary next year. Since all of you are such a big part of the fabric of what makes Saint Laurence Catholic School special, we hope you will come back and celebrate with us. Please encourage any former SLCS students you know to join our alumni pages on social media. Not only is it fun to keep up with everything going on at the school, but it is a great way to connect with your old friends! We were blessed during this difficult year to have several alumni step up and offer to help fill in as substitutes and satellite teachers so that we could socially distance throughout the building. We honestly could not have made it without them. It is amazing to think that we have now been around long enough to have several legacy students within the school. It is also fun to see some of our former students graduating from high school, college, getting married and having babies. We love to hear your exciting news, so please reach out and share it with us. You are always in our prayers and we hope you never forget that “Once a Saint, Always a Saint.” God bless,

FROM OUR SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT Dear SLCS Alumni, What amazing experiences you must have had at this point in your life! Even the most successful person now and then will take a moment or two and reflect upon their life’s journey. at St. SPRINGWe, 2019 Laurence Catholic School, hope that we are a part of those great memories. Each year we are very proud of the young students that leave us to form our prestigious alumni. We are proud of what our students accomplish every year. St. Laurence continues to strive to be the best private school. As a matter of fact, we were voted the “Best Private School in Sugar Land,” according to the Fort Bend Magazine readers, not to mention being a twice recognized National Blue Ribbon School. We continue to have great accomplishments, especially in academics, technology, community involvement, fundraising, and athletics. Our academics are second to none. Our teachers continue to challenge students by introducing and using new techniques such as differentiated instructional teaching methods. We have the latest technology used in classrooms. Our students and families continue to be fully involved in our community, both in the parish and the surrounding area. Our fundraising efforts continue to hit new levels. Even during challenging times, our school community has continued to show their generosity and support for our mission whether through the Auction, Annual Fund, the Golf Tournament which supports tuition assistance, and many other events and fundraisers. Our athletics continue to flourish at SLCS, as each of our sports have had great seasons over the years. Our sports fanatics love to see our mascot, Leo the Lion, getting the crowds up on their feet! One thing that always brings all of us joy at SLCS is the spirit each of you left behind for all of us to embrace and feel on campus. We are truly blessed to have been a part of each of your lives and your Catholic journey. Your spirit makes this a special school for all of our community and we especially look forward to welcoming the first alumni to return and serve on the St. Laurence Catholic School Board. Back to school took on a new meaning for our students and staff at St. Laurence Catholic School. For some, it was returning to the school building each day and adjusting to the COVID-19 protocols. For others, it has meant learning from home with online instruction. Thank you to our staff and students for giving their all during this unprecedented year.

We are thrilled to share the engagement of Paulina Kardoush to Jonathon Murray. It is the beautiful love story of two kids who grew up together at St. Laurence Catholic School from PK-4 through 8th grade, continuing through high school at St. Agnes and SJ College Preparatory, and Baylor University. Their favorite memory at SLCS is attending Mass every week with our beloved Father Drew Wood! The union of two families, Murray and Kardoush, is mixed with many different cultures, but with one same goal, the beginning of a new chapter and journey united with love and faith. They will be married at St. Laurence!

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Cameron Cashiola’ 12
My name is Cameron Cashiola, SLCS class of 2012. I have discerned a call to religious life and priesthood, which I have decided to continue exploring by joining the Servants of Christ Jesus in Denver, Colorado. The Servants are a missionary group of priests and religious brothers committed to preach, teach, and provide spiritual direction, all for God's greater glory. The influences of Servants and my own influences for this discernment process are St. Ignatius of Loyola and St. Francis of Assisi. I found an initial attraction to religious life from the idea of total poverty. I had felt a call from the Lord to give up everything in order to follow him, as He asks of us in the Gospels, and I desired to follow him in that way. St. Francis of Assisi's life provided an extreme but inspirational model for how to follow Jesus in that way. St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Spiritual Exercises writer, inspired me to seek Jesus in the quiet, in the Scriptures, and in others. St. Ignatius, inspired by St. Francis and many others, also gave up everything to become a pilgrim and penitent, desiring that all his thoughts, words, and actions would all be in the service of God, for His greater glory. What else can man desire? So, I will be following this path for that same purpose, so that everything I am is only in the service of my creator, for me to love as He loves. To anyone who is or will discern a similar call, the only advice I can give is to pray. Jesus is real and really a person. He can hear you and see you like anyone else. He wants to listen to you and really wants to speak to you. Prayer has, can, and will change the world, but we need to do our part.
I am thankful for St. Laurence and will keep its students, teachers, and alumni in my prayers.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Hello! My name is Adrian Annicchiarico, and I am a proud Adrian member of the SLCS Class of 2009. I am a seminarian from Laurence parish, and I am currently working at St. Annicchiarico’ 09 St. Laurence school as a teaching assistant for 7th grade (it has been the best year of my life!). In August of this year, I will be leaving home to join the Norbertine Fathers of St. Michael’s Abbey, a religious order in Orange County, California. After a few years of prayerful discernment and one full year in the diocesan seminary, Our Lord made it clear He wanted me to continue discerning priesthood with the Norbertines. However, my path to seminary and the priesthood began long ago...in fact, I first heard God’s call to the priesthood when I was in 7th grade! Through the guidance and example of our parish priests, especially Fr. Drew and my theology teacher, Mr. Castillo, the Lord began to reveal His unique path for me. As a 7th grader, I enjoyed playing sports, reading books, playing video games, hanging out with friends, and occasionally doing dumb things to impress girls. But through it all, my heart quietly longed for something more, or rather, Someone more. God’s grace slowly but surely tugged at my heart. It was Him whom I sought. While I did, unfortunately, lose my way for a few years in high school and college, Our Lord never gave up on me. His loving Providence, by the hands of our Blessed Mother, brought me back to Him. Through all my experiences, the good and the bad, I have come to understand that my life is a gift, but not one I am meant to keep for myself. My life and in fact, all of our lives, belong to the Lord and His people. So, give your life to Jesus! Ask Him what He wants you to do! Go to the Adoration chapel often and ask Him! He really is there in the Eucharist! He has a wondrous, loving plan for your life - discover it!
Pray the Rosary! Pray it every day! And you will become the person God created you to be. What’s better than that?

CLASS OF 1997 LORI (MCMENEMY) NEWELL AND ELAINE (BROWN) GARZA Lori and Elaine met at St. Laurence Catholic School in 6th grade and have been best friends ever since! They graduated from St. Laurence, St. Agnes Academy, and Trinity University together. They recently spent a few days together with their families, and their kids are now best of friends! ANNA ROBSHAW After more than ten years away, I moved back to Houston after graduating from law school at UCLA in 2017. After spending two years practicing School and Education Law at Thompson & Horton LLP, I joined Greenberg Traurig, LLP this past January, focusing my practice on commercial and employment litigation. I'm also involved with Preservation Houston and sit on the Board of Advisors for Incarnate Word Academy. As some of you know, my dad was diagnosed with leukemia in 2015, but I'm happy to share that he is now in clinical remission, and my parents are living their best lives in the Dorset countryside! They retired and moved to England a couple of years ago. They're still singing, even during the pandemic - they recently joined the Self Isolation Choir, which has members from all over the world. You can see the first performance HERE.
Alyssa won the Moth Story Slam - a community-focused, open-mic storytelling competition - for the fourth time, and her stories have been broadcast to over 400 NPR stations across the country. The Moth is a non-profit group dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. In telling “Minimum Wage Millennial,” Alyssa recounts the embarrassment of running into familiar faces while working at a Michaels craft store after college graduation. In her TEDx University of Houston talk “Blood and Guts: The Elements of Storytelling,” Alyssa uses a tale of donating way too much blood at a blood drive at her office to emphasize the power of storytelling. Alyssa says her storytelling started as a New Year’s resolution in 2016. She decided to try new hobbies to find happiness outside of work, and storytelling was the one that stuck! She does not perform on stage much and says, “I still get incredibly shaky and nervous before performing on stage. I like the writing part much more than the performing part, so I mostly ghostwrite stories under pseudonyms for other people to perform.” Alyssa is an associate in King & Spalding’s Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity practices. She holds degrees in Philosophy and Italian from Georgetown University and her JD from the University of Houston. Learn more HERE
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL CLASS OF 2004 SIOBHÁN THOMPSON Siobhán married Josh Hansel on July 1, 2017, right here at St. Laurence Church. They live in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Siobhán works as a choir director at the middle school and high school in Idaho Falls and Josh at the Idaho National Nuclear Lab. They welcomed their first child on Nov. 29, 2019, Alanna Marie, and their little family enjoys hiking and exploring all the beautiful wonders of this part of the country.

BRITTANY DODSON Brittany works at St. Luke’s in the Medical Center in the outpatient cardiac wing as a unit secretary. She is a very active member of St. Faustina Catholic Church in the Core Team for Edge and Life Teen and the Katy Young Adult Group programs. She has often been a spokesperson for various groups about her cancer survivor story.
CLASS OF 2006 JESSICA DODSON Jessica (Dodson) Kusenberger is self-employed with her clothing line, Lily Harper. This relatively new company is steadily growing, featuring on-trend, affordable wear for young women. Jessica will be delivering her first baby, a boy, much to her and her family's joy. She and her husband, Drew, reside in Houston.
CLASS OF 2008 MOLLY BROWN Molly is working at the St. Louis Area Food Bank. She is the Youth Programs Coordinator and has spent the last 18 months developing the school market program. This program puts free food pantries in schools in low-income areas to help families get easier access to nutritious food. This is done through partnerships with community partners such as Fresh Thyme Market. Molly works with Fresh Thyme to order healthy, nutritious food for families that otherwise wouldn’t have access to these balanced meals. This has been especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic.

BEAU GUEDRY ‘08 AND BRANDON BAIN ’12 We are so blessed to see SLCS alum Beau Guedry '08 and Brandon Bain '12 enter the Novitiate! They embarked on a two-year period in which they will learn about the Society of Jesus, grow in their prayer and community life, and discern whether God is indeed calling them to life as a Jesuit. Please join us in praying for them!
CLASS OF 2010 KRISTIN CALEON I recently assumed a role at the University of Missouri Health Care, an academic health system in Columbia, Missouri, as Practice Manager of our newest ambulatory medical building that offers family medicine, women's health, pediatric, and psychiatry services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I set up a temporary child care facility for our health system's frontline workers HERE.
AMY DODSON Amy Dodson is employed at Oracle in Austin as a Marketing Account Manager. She is a member of St. Ignatius parish and enjoys her hobbies of painting and kayaking in her free time, when not spending time with family in Houston and Sugar Land.
VICTOR MENDIOLA Victor is a third-year medical student at Texas Tech Health Science Center currently. He graduated from Texas A&M with a Computer Science major. Victor is considering a degree in internal medicine.

SPRING 2019 Justice Chan graduated from Texas A&M University in December 2019 with a degree in University Studies in Biomedical Sciences and Minors in Psychology and Public Health. He graduated from the United States Marine Corps' Officer Candidates School in the summer of 2019 and was commissioned this past December as a Second Lieutenant. He is attending the Basic School in Quantico, Virginia.
CLASS OF 2012 KATHRYN MARIANNA GRANT Kathryn Marianna Grant graduated on December 14, 2019, from the University of Houston - College of Education, Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies. She plans to pursue a Masters of Business Administration from Prairie View A&M University in the Fall. Kathryn is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
SARA MENDIOLA Sara is graduating this May with a double major in Psychology and Social Policy Analysis. She is applying to Grad school in Social Policy Analysis.
WHERE IS THE TUMBLESON FAMILY? Tyler, class of 2011, graduated from Texas A&M in August of 2019 and now works at Spring Spirit, a non-profit organization in Houston. Kylie, class of 2013, is in her senior year at Texas A&M and will graduate in May 2021 with a teaching degree. Avery, class of 2015, is in her sophomore year at Blinn College in Bryan. She is studying Criminal Justice.

BRADLEY BURGESS Bradley Burgess, SLCS alum class of 2013, graduated with distinction from the University of Oklahoma. He now has over 900 hours of logged flight time, and continues to work as a Certified Flight Instructor for OU. Bradley is currently awaiting his training assignment from Envoy Airlines. He will be getting married this June in Norman, Oklahoma at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. He will then begin a new adventure moving to Midland, Texas with his wife, Elizabeth, as she starts her new job in airport operations there. Bradley continues to put his faith in God, as SLCS taught him to do, as he begins this new journey in life.
HANNAH KAISER Hannah received her White Coat for Nursing at the University of Arkansas! She is studying to be a Nurse Anesthetist. She plans to graduate with a BSN in nursing and will continue with additional schooling and advanced nursing training. Her goal is to get a Doctorate of Nursing in Anesthesia! Hannah is also a student ambassador for the university and works at the Campus Day Care as an assistant teacher.
CLASS OF 2015 DAVID GUTIERREZ David is loving his second year at University of Texas at Dallas studying Computer Science. He is active in several university clubs and organizations. He is graduating next year and starting his masters. He is looking forward to an internship with Google this summer!
CLASS OF 2016 MIA CLAY Mia is loving her first year at Texas A&M! She is heavily involved with the Texas A&M freshman student leadership group FORME which plant gardens in community centers, cleanup highways, and perform other chores on campus. She loves St Mary’s Catholic Church and its organizations and is a proud Aggie waterpolo player.

CLASS OF 2016 ALEX GARCIA
Alex was accepted into the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange to spend a year abroad in Germany as a gap year between high school and college. Due to the pandemic, it was moved online, and Alex has been participating virtually. In this time, he has been working as a satellite and BASC teacher at St. Laurence. He has also been accepted by a number of universities, including the University of Oxford, and is awaiting further responses before making a final decision.

ADRIAN PACINI Adrian graduated from Clements High School with Honors and is going to New York University (NYU) to Major in Film! BAILEY BURGESS Bailey Burgess, SLCS alum class of 2016, is finishing her first year at Baylor University where she is majoring in Elementary Education. Bailey is an active member of her sorority at Baylor, Kappa Chi Alpha. She thanks SLCS for providing a strong Catholic education which has helped guide her to become a member of this Christian based sorority. She enjoys serving her community with her sorority sisters through their philanthropy, Mission Waco. Bailey is looking forward to a summer in Sugar Land and then returning to Baylor in the fall for her second year.

HELENA RESTREPO Helena earned her Gold Award with Girl Scouts, the highest award achievable. She educated food-insecure teens on how to eat healthy while on a budget. Helena provided resources that addressed what constitutes a healthy diet and how teens can support their families, especially during the trying times of COVID-19. Together with her team, she provided four videos that include basic kitchen skills and recipes. Additionally, Helena partnered with the Houston Food Bank to create a plan and outline her content. Helena will be attending the University of Miami in Fall 2021, majoring in PR/Advertising.

CLASS OF 2018 LILIANNA GARCIA Lilianna Garcia is a junior at the British International School of Houston where she is the Deputy Head Girl (Student Body Vice-President). She plays on the varsity soccer team and is the Vice-President of the UNICEF Club. She is a member of the National Charity League, where she enjoys volunteering at local charities with her mom, and she is currently working on her Girl Scout Gold Award.

CLASS OF 2019 MORGAN LEAMAN Morgan attends St. Agnes Academy, where she went to the State meet as an alternate and lettered in Cross Country as a freshman. Over the summer, she and her two younger sisters started a candy business together - Sugar Board Sisters. She is a sophomore this year.

Alex is a sophomore at Incarnate Word Academy, where she is a member of IWA'S Impact Dance Team and participates in the Young Leaders Program. Alex earned her Letterman Jacket her freshman year and continues to work hard at her academics. She continues philanthropy and service work through Incarnate Word Academy's Service Program. She is a member of the National Charity League and is excited to be an Ambassador for the Epilepsy Foundation.

CLASS OF 2020 JACE CLAY Jace is a President’s honor roll student at Strake Jesuit. He is still active in sports, participating in SJ Crusader football last fall and is now a pitcher for the SJ baseball JV white team. Go Crusaders!
AVERY LEAMAN Avery is a new alumni, Class of 2020, the first class to ever have a ‘car parade’ at graduation. She is a freshman at St. Agnes Academy and is looking forward to running Cross Country and Track as a Tiger! In her spare time, she’s been running her new candy business with her two sisters - Sugar Board Sisters!
Allison Riebe ‘20 and Ayo Cardozo ‘20 performed in St. Agnes Academy’s production of Chicago this spring. Margaret Riebe ‘18 swam on St. Agnes’ 2021 TAPS Division I State Champion Swim Team and is currently playing varsity Water Polo.

What is your Educational Background? I have a Bachelors in Computer Science from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, as well as teaching certification. I also hold a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. How long have you worked in education? I began my career in education in 1994 and have taught Pre-Kindergarten 3 year-olds through 8th grade, as well as adults. Tell us what you love about working at SLCS? The true trinity of the parents, educators, and students working together to serve the whole child in academics and faith. Also, the family environment and love shared at SLCS is unbelievable. Please list and describe any personal information you would like to share. I have lived in Maryland, Virginia, and South Carolina; grew up in Central Texas and I’m glad to be back home. My husband and I have two children, Lucia and Greg. What's your favorite quote? "A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for." - John A. Shedd Can you share some advice for our alumni?
No matter what you decide to do for a living, make sure it’s something you truly enjoy. Being able to earn a living doing something you love and making a positive difference is truly a gift.

OUR ETERNAL SAINTS Our Eternal Saints Olivia, Edison, and Colette Nguyen rest in peace. Our school community is mourning a tragic loss, as three of our students sixth-grader Olivia, second-grader Edison and kindergartener Colette, along with their grandmother, Loan Le, passed away during the February winter storms. Thank you so much for all the prayers and love many of you have shown the Nguyen family, the school staff and students during this very difficult time. Messages of condolence and prayers have come to us from around the country through various Catholic schools and from different dioceses. Our hearts remain heavy, but we know that they will see them again one day. We remain steadfast in prayer for them and their parents.
