Maggie Shaw Creative Writing Competition Student Reflection: Benjamin Brandt (Year 12) “Entering a writing competition was one of the last things that I would have expected myself to do at the start of the year, especially with how busy school and extracurricular activities get. Suffering a torn ACL in March, I thought that this year would be a miserable one, as I was not going to be able to play rugby with my mates. However, this injury has opened a new door, which has allowed me more time to sit down and write a story. It is amazing what you can create when you put your mind to something. Boys, if something doesn't go your way in one part of your life, use it as an opportunity to open a new door and try something new. The sense of accomplishment that you will feel when you complete something that you had your doubts about is immense. I know it might sound a bit cliché, but Nudgee truly allows you to try new things, which I have certainly experienced by trying something new and entering this competition.” Benjamin Brandt, Year 10-12 Joint Division Winner
