April 4, 2025
Hello Friends!
I warmly welcome you to our 2025 St. John Auction, Come Sail Away! Perhaps some of you are hesitant to attend this year, and if that is the case, I can’t go for that. Participation in our auction is a great time and makes for a lovely day. There will be so many wonderful people there, it won’t be just the two of us, what can I say, it’ll be big. It supports our school in a profound way and fosters real connection amongst us.
Minute by minute the evening will be filled with many heart to heart conversations, awesome auction items (you’ll want to steal them away), and a lot of piña coladas. If you don’t feel up to the theme, it’s no problem, come just the way you are. If you need more of a low down, feel free to reach out to the school office for more info.
If you have other plans that night that you think are better, well that’s what a fool believes. Come, sail away with us at our school auction instead!
Blessings, Fr. Parrish

2025 FUND-A-NEED
Beginning in 2017 the school embarked on a plan to design and deliver classrooms of the future. A significant multi-building capital project and remodel created educational spaces that inspire collaboration, accommodate student-learning styles, and speak to the needs of the 21 st century learner. Part of this visionary planning included technology and furniture acquisitions. The 2025 Fund-a-Need will continue to support and replenish school technology purchases and complete a multi-year purchasing plan of ergonomic student seating. Through your generous donations, the school desires to raise $100,000.
‣ Funds raised will support the school’s long-term technology plan, which includes projected recurring costs to support purchase of student Chromebooks and iPads, network infrastructure, classroom Epson projectors and document cameras, computer storage carts, and teacher MacBooks.
‣ Beyond technology, a portion of the funds raised will complete the purchase of new student seating in the intermediate classrooms (grades 3-5) and the school music room. Updated school seating is crucial to fostering good health and wellness in our educational spaces. Most all of our classrooms include an array of ergonomic seating solutions designed to promote concentration, productivity, and physical comfort. Help us complete the purchase of updated student seating that is fun, uplifting, and features vibrant bright colors in our intermediate and music classrooms.
Get ready to raise your bid cards—the target amount needed at auction—$100,000.
Corporate matching may apply. Consult your employee benefits office for more information about matching your gift.

RON HIPPE, AUCTIONEER
Ron Hippe is a talented, engaged, and authentic auctioneer who has auctioneered for the United Way, Seattle Opera, East Bay SPCA, St John School, Make A Wish, Seattle Symphony, and many more.
When not auctioneering for Fred, Ron can be found performing comedy improvisation with Seattle’s TheatreSports (Unexpected Productions), and he has worked with a number of improv companies around the globe in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Orlando, Atlanta, Vancouver, New York, London, and Austria. Ron has appeared in productions with the Intiman, ACT, and Seattle Rep theatres and also appeared on Broadway in the Pulitzer Prize winning play The Kentucky Cycle. Ron is a veteran commercial and voice over actor for radio, television, and video games. In addition, Ron is a musician and singersongwriter. He lives in Seattle with his wife, Michelle, and their two boys.
ANDREW EXNICIOS, EMCEE
As a young boy Andrew dreamed of being a baseball. He hails from the Virginia suburbs outside Washington, DC and once wrote an admissions essay where he described his “happiest moment ever” as the 2nd quarter of Superbowl XXII. (The school let him in anyways).
When he’s not coaching the St Al/John XC team or cheering in vain for mediocre DC sports teams, Andrew spends his time running, product managing the world’s largest pet pharmacy, and ferrying carloads of kids back and forth to dance classes. But more than anything, Andrew wants you to know that he thanks God for his family every day: dogs Calhoun and Grayson, daughters Lila and Lucy, and above all his wife, Lauren, the best person he’s ever met.
None of them were around when he wrote that essay about the Super Bowl, but if they had been he’d have to scrap the whole thing and start over (sorry Doug Williams).
ROBIN BURROWES, DJ
Ahoy, mateys! Get ready to set sail with our DJ, Captain Robin, a seasoned smooth operator who has navigated through 15 ports of call worldwide, all with a unique blend of quality dance music. Now, back on deck in the calm harbor of Seattle, he’s a regular fixture on the local bar/club scene, dropping anchor frequently across the city. When he’s not spinning those mellow vibes, he’s cruising with his first mate, Melissa, and their little skipper, Ava (4th grade), or guiding the St. John’s girls soccer crew as their sideline admiral.

PK - AM (Baber/Monica/Castillo)
Item #1203 “Thumbs Up”
The preschoolers very carefully dipped their thumbs in acrylic paint and made beautifully textured thumbprints on this large piece of artwork. It is framed with a gorgeous turquoise wooden frame and acrylic screen, so there’s no reflection.
PK - PM (Baber/Monica/Castillo)
Item #1204 “Tiny Leaves, Big Magic”
Our preschool artists explored the magic of watercolor, each creating their own vibrant and unique painting. These vibrant works were then cut into delicate leaf shapes and carefully arranged into a flowing rainbow pattern, creating a stunning visual journey of color and unity. This piece is a joyful tribute to the imagination and spirit of our youngest creators.
CLASS ART PROJECTS
Ms. Murray’s Kindergarten
Item Number: 1205 “Our City”
Students created a colorful painting of the Seattle skyline with finger paint. Each student had their own color for the finger paint and there is a separate legend that goes with the art that shows which color was used by each child. The painting has been framed with a black frame and black mat that really accentuates the colors of the skyline and the Space Needle. This art would make a great addition to any wall in your home and will provide memories forever of Ms. Murray’s 2024-25 kindergarten class!
Ms. Williamson’s Kindergarten
Item Number: 1206 “Our Class Sails Together”
The talented students from Ms. Williamson and Ms. Wakefield’s kindergarten class created a nautical-themed art piece that shows their individual favorite colors via their boat sails while also showcasing that the students are united in their direction as a class. “Our Class Sails Together” includes a handmade boat from each student, set against a navy background, with a white frame from a local Seattle shop. This piece of art also comes with a “key” that shows which student created each of the beautifully crafted boats displayed. Don’t miss your chance to own this one-of-a-kind masterpiece that would go beautifully on your wall or could be gifted to that pesky relative who always seems to gift your kiddo that extra loud toy that they enjoy so much at the expense of your own peace.
CLASS ART PROJECTS
Mrs. Costa’s 1st Grade
Item Number: 1201 “The Power of a Smile”
First grade students helped make this art piece by showing off their beautiful, unique smiles. Each child’s smile was photographed, and the black and white images were used to make a collage. The word “smile” is spelled in American Sign Language in the center of the collage. The art piece is displayed in a frame and ready to decorate your wall.

This bright and joyful work is a visual celebration of unity through individuality—each piece is unique, each essential.
Mrs.
Traywick’s

Item Number: 1209 “Paper Quilled Mandala”
Originating in the 15th century, “Paper quilling” is an art form that involves the using hundreds of small strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create a decorative design. Mrs. Traywick’s third graders each had their own color of paper strips that they rolled that were then shaped & put together to create a colorful mandala. This shadow-box framed art piece would be a beautiful addition to any home, complete with a color key allowing you to easily identify each child’s individual contribution.
Mrs.

Item Number: 1210
“To plant a garden, is to believe in tomorrow”
Calling all flower enthusiasts! Check out Mrs. Ocampo’s 3rd grade class art project. Each student designed their own unique flower with acrylic paint, to create a collaborative flower garden. CLASS ART PROJECTS
Mrs.
Halley’s
4th Grade
Item Number: 1211
“Hear Me Roar: A Celebration of Uniqueness”
Inspired by the bold, vibrant work of contemporary artist Lisa Congdon, our 4th grade students created one-of-akind graphic tiger illustrations using tempera paint sticks and markers. Each tiger is paired with a powerful word or phrase chosen by the student—a personal message of inspiration, identity, or self-expression. These dynamic pieces are a celebration of individuality and creativity, float mounted in a 24x30 white gallery frame. Together, they roar with the unique voices of our young artists.

Martin’s
4th Grade
Item Number: 1212
“The Shape of Us”
This framed piece, completed by Ms. Martin’s 2024-2025 class, is a vibrant celebration of individuality and unity created through a collection of silhouettes that are each uniquely decorated with artwork completed by each student. Set against a black background, these profiles come together to form a striking tapestry, symbolizing the beauty of our connected community. This artwork is a reminder that while each of us is unique, together we can come together to create something powerful.
CLASS ART PROJECTS
Mr. Sandstrom’s 5th Grade
Item Number: 1213
“Chaos of Color and Flight of Grace, a Journey from Chaos to Tranquility”
The class created two boldly opposing artworks: One playful and spontaneous, the other precise and methodical. The first piece uses the acrylic pouring technique, where vibrant colors are poured and swirled across the canvas, resulting in an organic and unpredictable composition. The second piece embraces the traditional Japanese art of origami, with meticulous folds of paper transforming into cranes of various sizes, culminating in the creation of a crane enigma. These artworks highlight the contrast between fluid, freeflowing creativity and the structured precision of cultural craftsmanship.

1105: 2015 Cadence Camerata Cara Mia Vineyard Red (Red Mountain)
91 points! Columbia Valley Bordeaux Style Red.
“Made of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance Merlot. Cherry, graphite, raspberry and herb aromas lead to evenkeeled dark fruit flavors that break up a bit in the middle before pulling back together. The tannins come off as a bit gruff out of the gate but soften with significant time open. Give it some time or a very long decant. Best after 2022, and it has the stuffing to go well beyond that.” - Sean P. Sullivan
Value: $65
Thank You: Grace Duffett
1106: Seavey Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Duo
Caravina is a unique Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced exclusively from hillside vineyard blocks of Seavey Vineyard in Napa Valley. The grapes are carefully selected for their intense character and supple tannins. The founders of Seavey Vineyard, William and Mary Seavey, affectionately named this wine “Caravina,” my dear vine, to honor its endearing flavors. They have been making this wine since 1999 from grapes grown on land first planted in the 1870s. Caravina Cabernet Sauvignon, like all Seavey wines, is entirely estate grown, produced and bottled.
