Betty Cozeana Murphy, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and daughter was born in Bualo, NY on January 9, 1936, to the late Moses and Florence Lewis-Dixon. Betty gave her life to her Lord who in His innite mercy called her home to eternal rest on May 2, 2023.

Betty was curious and adventurous, leading her to countless excursions growing up to experience the joys of science and art museums, ski resorts, Niagara Falls, arts & crafts fairs, music concerts and theater festivals. She attended Howard University where she met and married George Wyndell Murphy, and out of this union came three children.

Betty began her career with professional roles in health science research, and as a phlebotomist/laboratory technician supervisor in upstate New York. She was also a trailblazer, counted in the rst wave of new residents in Columbia, MD and was an entrepreneur - business owner of American Telephone Answering Service, Inc (ATAS), culture travel manager at AAA Travel Agency, and producer / director of the “Teen Scene” on Howard County Cable Access TV . Betty also cared for and mentored hundreds of young women pursuing arts and cultural professions as residential manager of The Katherine House in Greenwich Village/NYC.

Betty lived a spirited life lled with memorable international travel adventures, with Barbados being her favorite destination. She led by example, striving to make the most of every moment and take chances in life.

Betty leaves behind her only remaining beloved sibling, Moses (Delores) Dixon; her adoring children, Jeanine, Derek (Mikki) and Andre (Cecilia); six grandchildren; Kelly, Derek (Alyssa), Alan (Katie), Christopher, Victoria, and Jonathan, four great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Remy, Aniyah, and Jayda; nieces, nephews, and other family and friends whose lives she touched and who dearly loved her.
