Winners of Torque 2017 share their V8 hot laps experience!

Torque Rewards is a state-based competition rewarding Parts Managers and Dealer Representatives for completing a variety of tasks that support GetGenuine. This year our five lucky winners won a hot laps experience for the parts team, a GetGenuine esky filled with beer and pizza for the team! Congrats!

Last September-November, GetGenuine dealers competed in our annual state-based Torque competition and five lucky winners won a V8 supercar hot laps experience, a GetGenuine esky full of beers and pizza for the whole parts team!

Parts Interpreter, Matt Walsh, said his hot laps experience was “a drive of a lifetime!” Matt tells us what him and the team thought of their day at the track.

On Saturday the 14th of April a few of us were given the privilege of experiencing the drive of a lifetime at Norwell on the Gold Coast, courtesy of GetGenuine.

The hot laps were a true V8 Supercar experience. Whilst the whole Falcon vs Commodore topic was always going to be a debate we put that aside to feel the real power of A V8 supercar and race 7 laps around the Norwell Circuit.

Myself, Daniel, Brendan & Toby put our helmets on and buckled up ready for a run. Foot down on the straights and hard on the breaks to pull into the corners and Hairpins. I myself can say it’s exhilarating and also heart pumping hitting speeds that would otherwise land us in trouble. What an experience. High speeds and adrenalin.

Motorsport News special attention was paid to particularly efficient aerodynamics, further optimised safety as well as lowering the cost of servicing and spare parts.

The lightweight body design of the 911 GT3 RS production sports car featuring intelligent aluminium-steel composite construction has proven to be the ideal basis for the near-production race car. Powering the new 911 GT3 R is a cutting-edge four-litre flat-six unit which is largely identical to the high-performance production engine of the road-legal 911 GT3 RS. Compared to its predecessor, the normally-aspirated engine offers significantly better driveability and a broader usable rev range.

Porsche has designed a new customer racer for GT3 series worldwide for 2019 based on the 911 GT3 RS production sports car: the 911 GT3 R. During the development of the up to 404 kW (550 hp) racing nine-eleven,

The spectacular aerodynamics of the 911 GT3 R also follows the example of the road car. The distinctive wheel arch air vents on the front fairings increase downforce at the front axle. In tandem with the new Porsche double wishbone suspension, this ensures superior braking performances and consistency over the duration of the race.

The brake system of the 911 GT3 R also underwent further modifications and now offers increased stiffness and more precise control of the ABS. The cockpit has been redesigned. All controls have been perfectly aligned to suit the needs of the driver. For the first time the 911 GT3 R features air-conditioning. This ensures ideal interior cooling and, thanks to the direct connection to the seat and driver’s helmet, enables particularly efficient cooling of the driver, which in turn helps them maintain concentration and a constant performance over the race.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 R can be ordered immediately for 459,000 Euro plus country-specific VAT and will be delivered from December 2018. All technical details and data are provisional until the final approval is received through FIA.

Gen2 Formula E car preparing for the coming season

Formula E and FIA release details on new race format for season five.

Formula E and the FIA have revealed the calendar for the 2018/19 ABB FIA Formula E Championship, as well as details on the new race format and split power modes on offer alongside the new-look next generation car in season five.

The FIA released details on changes to the race format taking into account

the increased power and energy storage capacity of the Gen2 car for the coming season, which can complete a full race distance without the need to make a mid-race car swap.

In a bid to promote a mixture of strategic options, as well as further enhancing and retaining the intense and unpredictable nature of Formula E races, it will be mandatory for drivers to use two different power modes over a race distance.

Drivers will be able to access 225kW of power in a higher mode - as opposed to the standard 200kW available during the race - once they’ve passed through a single activation zone. The activation zone will be clearly visible and marked out on the circuit for fans trackside and those watching on TV. The two power modes on each car will be indicated using different colours on the innovative LED system on the halo head protection device.

Race distances will no longer be measured using a pre-defined number of laps, but will instead run to a strict time limit of 45-minutes plus one lap to reach the chequered flag.

12 the rear-wheel-drive two-seater is powered by a 5.4-litre naturally aspirated mid-mounted V8 quad-cam engine that produces 700bhp, (522kW). The car features carbon fibre body panels and weighs 972kg, giving a power-to-weight ratio of 720bhp per tonne.

Former Formula 1 driver and Le Mans 24 Hours winner David Brabham, the son of triple world champion Sir Jack, runs Brabham Automotive.

Brabham Automotive reveals BT62 track car.

The launch was held at a gala-event at Australia House in London. It is expected that 70 examples of the BT62 will be constructed to mirror Brabham’s 70-year heritage built by Jack Brabham, who became the only driver to win the F1 world championship in a car bearing his own name.

Priced at £1 million before taxes and options, the vehicle is the first phase of a long-term development vision which includes the goal of competing at the Le Mans 24 Hours.

It has been 12 years in the making and now Brabham Automotive has officially unveiled their stunning new track-only car. Known as the BT62,

Pakenham could be the home to a brand-new motorsport complex with the Cardinia Shire Council calling for Expressions of Interest from suitably experienced organisations to develop and operate a world class facility located approximately 40 minutes south-east of the Melbourne CBD. The proposal is for a 3.7km circuit that will meet FIA Grade 2 and FIM Grade B standards, eventually incorporating an extension into a 4.2km track.

Bamber to tackle Bathurst Super2 race.

The Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 weekend in October will be a busy one for two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Earl Bamber. Not only will the 27-year-old co-drive with Shane van Gisbergen in the PIRTEK Enduro Cup but he will also share Brenton Grove’s Holden in the 250km Dunlop Super2 Series support race in a bid to fast-track his learning process.

It will be the first time for Bamber in the Supercars Enduros’. Having briefly driven Grove’s Triple Eight-built Super2 Holden in a pre-season test at Winton, Bamber was able to give Gisbergen’s car a test in May. “I’ve known Brenton for a long time now and help him a bit behind the scenes so it will be awesome to share the car with him,” commented Bamber. “Brenton has got a steep learning curve as well so hopefully I can pass on a little bit of knowledge from what I’m learning in the main series, but also all around the world. It has always been amazing to work with Grove Racing, for me, the journey started with them all the way back in 2013 when I was doing Carrera Cup as a completely unknown kid.”

Due to his Porsche commitments, Bamber will miss the additional driver practice session at Queensland Raceway next month but intends to return for Triple Eight’s pre-Sandown 500 test.

SuperNight to run on full Sydney circuit Supercars has signed-off on use of the full 3.93km Sydney Motorsport Park layout for the Red Rooster Sydney SuperNight 300 (Saturday 4 August) following a successful lighting test in June. It will be the first race under lights in Australia in 21 years, incorporating 60 temporary light towers plus additional lighting for the event.

Initially a shorter, 2.8km variant of the SMP circuit had initially been slated by drivers for the lack of over-taking opportunities as organisers looked for solutions for the challenges of lighting the full venue from a racing, television and event perspective.

The SuperNight format will include practice on Friday night, before a second practice and knock-out qualifying during the day on Saturday precedes a 300km feature race from 7:20pm. Support category action from the Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia, Australian GT Championship and Porsche Carrera Cup Asia will take place across Friday and Saturday.

Walkinshaw Andretti United endorses V8 decision.

Walkinshaw Andretti United has endorsed the decision by Holden Motorsport, allowing teams to retain the V8 engine as an option for the foreseeable future.

Walkinshaw Andretti United Director, Ryan Walkinshaw, praised the decision.

“The V8 engine is synonymous with this category, there is so much history and passion surrounding it, so it’s fantastic to see Holden and the sport listening to the fans,” Mr Walkinshaw said.

Ford Mustang Supercar

Mustang Supercars project well underway Ford’s switch to the Mustang for the 2019 Australia Supercars Championship is well underway ahead of homologation testing which is expected to begin before the end of the year. The Mustang was announced in April to replace the Falcon FGX, a project that sees Ford Australia, Ford Performance (USA), DJR Team Penske and Tickford Racing all working together to develop the Blue Oval’s latest Supercar.

“With a strong engine program, it’s great to be able to remove the uncertainty surrounding the future of the V8, now being able to continue to focus on the revival of our team, as Walkinshaw Andretti United.”

The focus has been on fitting the Mustang body shape to the control chassis that is used by the Supercars category with the next step moving to the aerodynamics. Both DJR Team Penske and Tickford Racing are working together on the development and homologation of the Mustang.

The duo worked together when carrying out initial evaluations of the Mustang back in 2016.

Ford withdrew its support from Supercars racing following the homologation of the Ford Falcon FG X in late 2014. Since then, teams have continued to race the FG X – for which road car production ended in 2016 – while working to achieve sign-off from Ford on the Mustang. Two-door cars are eligible for Supercars under the Gen2 rules that recently saw Holden homologate its hatchback Commodore ZB. Ford teams will continue to run their existing 5.0 litre V8 engines in their Mustangs, for which the body must be fitted over the control Supercars chassis.
