Tell us about the history of your business Cricks was founded in 1995 when Garry Crick bought the Nissan and Mitsubishi franchises in Nambour on the Sunshine Coast. Garry acquired further dealerships in the years that followed before partnering with John Eastham in 2005. Garry and John are now Autopact Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer as well as being owners of the Autopact 12 Lives Group. Cricks Sunshine Coast currently has 5 locations, and sells 15 new brands. The Crick business today is the Sunshine Coasts favourite dealer. What is something your business does differently? VOLVO CARS ALL-ELECTRIC BY 2030 Volvo Cars aims to be a fully electric car company by 2030 and move all sales online by then. It will also phase out any car in its global portfolio with an internal combustion engine (ICE), including hybrids. The Chinese-owned Swedish brand is rolling out a new lineup of electric cars and recently unveiled its second battery electric (BEV) model, the C40 Recharge – reportedly similar to the XC40 Recharge but more aerodynamic to improve on the 335km range.

SCOTT MCLAUGHLIN READY TO MAKE HIS FULL-TIME INDYCAR DEBUT WITH TEAM PENSKE

Team Penske expands from three teams to four full-season entries in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES in 2021. Series champion drivers Josef Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud and Will Power return to the team this season and they will be joined by another Team Penske champion – Scott McLaughlin – who will make the transition from racing Australian Supercars to competing in INDYCAR in 2021. After recording a remarkable 53 wins and 71 poles in nine seasons of Supercars competition while claiming three consecutive driver’s championships for Team Penske, McLaughlin joins the organization’s INDYCAR program in 2021. The young New Zealand driver is ready to take on a new challenge and the next phase of his career with the team this season. He made his INDYCAR debut at the 2020 season finale in St. Petersburg and in 2021 McLaughlin will compete for a full series season as he teams up with race engineer Jonathan Diuguid and the No. 3 PPG Chevrolet team. With championship-winning teams, talented drivers, premier partners and experienced leadership and crews across all levels of competition, Team Penske’s 55th season promises to be exciting and full of opportunities on and off the track in 2021. The season opener at Barber Motorsports Park has been rescheduled from Sunday, April 11 to Sunday, April 18.

JACK DOOHAN CONFIRMS FIA F3 CAMPAIGN WITH TRIDENT Australian driver Jack Doohan has confirmed his 2021 FIA Formula 3 Championship entry with Trident. The Red Bull junior Jack Doohan will complete their driver line-up for the joining Clement Novalak and David Schumacher at the Italian outfit. The Australian – who is the son of MotoGP World Champion Mick Doohan – will be taking part in his second season at this level, making the switch from HWA RACELAB. The 18-year-old debuted for the Italians in post-season testing, topping the times on the final day in Jerez last year. “I’m very pleased to join the prestige and highly competitive Trident team for the 2021 season,” said Doohan. “Post season

testing went very well and I already feel a great atmosphere between the team and myself. I can’t wait to get back to work and start the preparations for the upcoming season.” Doohan first stepped up to single-seaters in 2018, taking fifth in British Formula 4 and also gained experience in ADAC F4, Italian F4 and Euroformula Open – followed up his successful debut season by becoming the Asian Formula 3 vice-champion in 2019. DATE CONFIRMED FOR THE INAUGURAL BATHURST INTERNATIONAL AT MOUNT PANORAMA Top-level, globally recognised motorsport will return to Mount Panorama in late November with the confirmation of the date for the inaugural running of the Bathurst International. Locked in for November 26-28, 2021, the Bathurst International will bring the world’s best racing categories to Australia’s greatest motorsport venue, broadcasted live and free to viewers locally and around the world. Headlining the Bathurst International will be the TCR Bathurst 500, a marquee appearance for the globally recognised touring car formula set to be the first two-driver event for TCR on Australian soil. S5000 will make its long-awaited debut at Mount Panorama, signalling a return of serious, V8-powered open wheel race cars to the famous 6.213km circuit. American muscle will be one of the featured acts of the 2021 Bathurst International, with the popular Trans Am machines

competing in the first-ever ‘Trans Am 100’ – a 100km race that will pit the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challengers against each other in what will be the most highprofile event in the category’s short local history. The Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters will conclude its 2021 series at the Bathurst International, giving fans trackside and at home a taste of the muscle cars from yesteryear. And the ever-desirable brands like Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Porsche will contest a three-hour endurance race in what will crown the Motorsport Australia GT Endurance crown – a grand conclusion to the 2021 Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS. CHALLENGE BATHURST RETURNS TO COMPLETE 2021 MOUNT PANORAMA PROGRAM The ever-popular Challenge Bathurst event will return for a sixth year in 2021, confirmed for the week-long period of November 11-16 and six incredible days on Mount Panorama.

The weekend of November 13-14 (Saturday and Sunday) will see up to 275 competitors tackle 6, 20-minute sessions against the clock in a regularity for performance vehicle owners.

The 2021 Challenge Bathurst event will again be comprised of three distinct elements, commencing with the SuperSprint event on November 11-12, for competitive race drivers and high-performance racing and road going vehicles.

The Z Car Club of Queensland and Porsche Club of NSW will again host their own exclusive groups of competitors within the regularity, each catering for 55 entries.

The SuperSprint, with a capacity of 120 entrants, will include 8, 20-minute sessions for sprint competitors who will all target the fastest time in their respective groups across the two days of on-track running. The SuperSprint will include a dedicated group for GT vehicles, who will enjoy extended running with 3, 1-hour sessions and an additional 40-minute session on Friday afternoon.

Monday, November 15 and Tuesday November 16 will then be allocated for the general public to drive or experience rides aboard the fleet of Fastrack V8 Race Cars. 2021 will mark the 12th year of the Fastrack V8 experience being held in Bathurst, with more than 500 people enjoying the thrill of driving or riding around Mount Panorama in 2020 alone. FIA F3 CHAMPION OSCAR PIASTRI READY FOR F2 Formula 3 Champion Oscar Piastri will make the step up to Formula 2 in 2021 with the current Championship leaders, PREMA Racing. The Australian driver won F3 at the first attempt in 2020, beating Theo Pourchaire to the title by three points in a nail-biting season finale at Mugello, having taken two wins and three podiums. “I’m super excited to be racing with Prema in the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship,” said Piastri. “We had a very successful 2020 season, winning the Formula 3 championship together, and I’m hoping for another successful year with them. Piastri made the step up to F3 on the back of winning the Formula Renault Eurocup title in 2019, when he was rewarded with a contract in the Renault Driver Academy. “We are delighted to welcome Oscar to our FIA Formula 2 team,” said Team Principal Rene Rosin. “Having witnessed his progress and success throughout the 2020 season, taking our relationship to the next step for the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship felt like the natural thing to do and we look forward to having him on-track right from Bahrain”

HILUX LEADS GROWTH IN FEBRUARY NEW VEHICLE SALES The Toyota Hilux remained Australia’s best-selling new vehicle in February 2021 outselling the second-placed Ford Ranger by 1908 units. There were 4808 new Hilux sold in February 2021, followed by 2900 Ranger sales. Toyota also took third, fourth, and fifth place on the new vehicle sales charts with 2750 RAV4 sales, 2521 LandCruiser sales and 2427 Corolla sales. A total of 83,977 vehicles were sold in February 2021, across the period, up 5.1% on February 2020 sales when 79,940 vehicles were sold. This positive result was reflected across all states and territories other than Victoria (down 8.7%), Tasmania (down 3.9%) and the ACT (down 38.3%) compared to February 2020. Year to date sales of 163,643 vehicles is up 7.9% on the same period in 2020. SUV sales continued to dominate the market with sales of 42,651 vehicles and representing 50.8% of the total market for February 2021. Light commercial vehicle sales represented 23% (19,326) and passenger vehicles 22.9% (19,194). February sales reflected the continued shift in preference by consumers away from passenger vehicles with sales falling 15.3% in February 2021 compared to sales in February 2020. Sales of SUVs were up 8.6% and sales of light commercials were up 24.3%. The growth in the market in February was driven by purchasers classified as private buyers within the VFACTS system, with sales in February to private buyers up 15.8% over February 2020. Business purchasers were down 4% and government down 13.8%. The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) chief executive Tony Weber says the result showed that confidence was continuing to grow in the market. “During the past four months we have seen an increase of 10.6% in new vehicles and this has been reflected with strong growth in NSW, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory in February 2021.

“The sales reduction in Victoria can be attributed to the COVID-19 restrictions that were put in place during the month. “We remain confident that this trend of growth will continue in an environment where business operating conditions continue to normalise,” he says. Toyota was the leading brand in February with sales of 18,375 vehicles (21.9% of the market), followed by Mazda with 8322 (9.9%), Hyundai with 6252 (7.4%), Mitsubishi with 6202 (7.4%) and Kia with 5871 (7%).

KIA TEASES EV6 Kia has shown the first official images of the EV6 – its first dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) built on the company’s new EV platform (electric-global modular platform or E-GMP).

Similar to Hyundai’s move, Kia also has a new naming strategy for upcoming dedicated BEVs – all starting with the ‘EV’ prefix which makes it easy for consumers to understand which of Kia’s products are fully electric.

The EV6 is also the first of Kia’s next-generation BEVs to be developed under a new design philosophy that embodies Kia’s shifting focus towards electrification, which sounds rather like sister company Hyundai (which has about a third stake in Kia) with its Ioniq 5 project.

This is followed by a number which corresponds to the car’s position in the line-up.

“EV6 is the embodiment of both our brand purpose, ‘Movement that inspires’, and our new design philosophy,” Kia Global Design Centre head Karim Habib says.

EV6 will have its world premiere during the first quarter of 2021, with more details expected closer to the time.

BMW IX DUE Q4

The first all-electric BMW iX will arrive in Australia in Q4 this year via two model variants – the iX xDrive40 and BMW iX xDrive50. Undergoing its final phase of series development, the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) is the first model based on a new, modular and scalable toolkit on which the future of the BMW Group will be built. BMW iX production follows sustainable practices involving compliance with strict environmental and social standards in raw material extraction, using electricity from renewable sources and a high proportion of recycled materials. The BMW Group procures the cobalt and lithium required for the high-voltage batteries from controlled sources in Australia and Morocco before supplying them to the battery cell manufacturers, while battery cells are made at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing using exclusively green power from certified sources. Since February the company has procured aluminium manufactured using electricity from solar energy plants. Rare earths can be avoided in making the electric motors. The car’s interior features FSC-certified wood, leather tanned with olive leaf extracts and other natural materials while mats are recovered fishing nets. “We are in no doubt mobility has to be sustainable if it is to represent a truly outstanding solution,” BMW AG management board chair Oliver Zipse says. BMW AG management board member Pieter Nota says the market launch of the BMW iX starts at the end of this year with the BMW iX xDrive40 and BMW iX xDrive50. In the BMW iX xDrive50, the drive system – which features one electric motor on the front axle and another at the rear axle – produces total output of more than 370kW and enables acceleration to 100km/h in less than 5.0 seconds.

The BMW iX xDrive40 has an output of more than 240kW, allowing it to sprint to 100km/h in about 6.0 seconds. A single housing integrates the electric motor, transmission and power electronics, helping optimise aerodynamics and benefitting the drive system’s efficiency. The result is average electric power consumption in the WLTP cycle of less than 21kWh per 100km for the BMW iX xDrive50 and less than 20kWh per 100km for the BMW iX xDrive40. The BMW iX xDrive50’s battery has a gross energy content of more than 100kWh, while the battery unit for the BMW iX xDrive40 is more than 70kWh. This provides the BMW iX xDrive50 with at least 600km range and the BMW iX xDrive40 with more than 400km range (WLTP). The BMW iX xDrive50 can recharge at up to 200kW, while the maximum charging capacity of the BMW iX xDrive40 is 150kW, a 10-minute plug-in time adding more than 120km and 90km range respectively.

In both model variants, the high-voltage battery’s charge can be increased from 10 to 80% in less than 40 minutes. The NMW iX’s new technology toolkit underpins further advances towards automated driving, with around double the amount of data from vehicle sensors processed than was previously possible. It is also 5G capable and will get improved automated driving and parking functions. “The BMW iX offers a mobile living space in which people will feel at ease, where the car’s intelligence is only there when you need it,” BMW Group Design senior vice president Adrian van Hooydonk says. TA2 WINS FOR HERNE AND MORRIS IN SYDNEY

Former TA2 rookie of the year Nathan Herne made a stunning last-minute comeback to the PROMAXX Performance Exhausts TA2 Muscle Car Series, dominating three of the four races at Sydney Motorsport Park including the feature night race. Subbing for the injured Russell Wright, Herne took pole position by over a second, won the opening seven-lap race by 14 seconds and scored a commanding 40-second victory in the 17-lap night race. Tim Shaw finished second in the opening race from Graham Cheney with a personal-best finish in third.

Starting fourth, debutant Nash Morris got by Zach Loscialpo at Turn 8 on the second lap, as the pair diced for the remainder of the race with Morris holding on for fourth spot. Morris would go on to take his maiden win the next day, preventing a complete clean-sweep by Herne. Like Herne, the 17-year-old son of 2014 Bathurst 1000 winner Paul, was subbing for car owner Karl Begg who was unable to compete at the round. The PROMAXX Performance Exhausts TA2 Muscle Car Series returns to action at the Morgans Park Raceway, Warwick, Queensland 16-18 April 2021.

FORD AUSTRALIA ADDS 12-SEATER BUS TO TRANSIT RANGE Ford Australia has added a rear-wheel-drive 12-seater Transit 410L bus to its commercial vehicle line.

The Transit Bus also comes with AEB with Pedestrian Detection as standard as part of a Driver Assist Technology suite that brings greater practicality and convenience. Powering the Ford Transit Bus is the 2.0L EcoBlue engine, which develops 125kW of power and 390Nm of torque. Ford Australia president and chief executive officer Andrew Birkic says there has been a strong demand for the bus to come with automatic transmission and the company can now deliver on that wish. It is equipped with FordPass Connecti which unlocks services including remote start and stop, so drivers can start their vehicle’s engine with a tap of their smartphone in order to heat or cool the cabin before they set off with their group. Passenger access to the nine rear seats is designed for a comfortable entry and exit and can be done conveniently with the power-operated left-hand side loading door, which is driver-operated from the key fob or a switch on the dashboard.
