WELCOME Welcome to our St George’s uniform guide. At St George’s, pupils from Primary 1 to Upper 5 wear a school uniform. Members of the Sixth Form wear a kilt in the St George’s tartan. We aim for the uniform to be practical, economical and of good quality. Although individual items of uniform have a long tradition within the school, they have evolved in response to the needs and activities of current pupils. All of our students are encouraged to demonstrate their commitment to the school community by following the uniform and dress code.

UNIFORM GUIDE The following guide is designed to show you which uniform items should be bought from school outfitters (regulation items) or from any other outlet (non-regulation items). Within these categories you’ll find the cumpulsory and optional items. In this guide, please make note of seasonal differences. Various uniform items are only to be worn in the summer or winter. The guide indicates when the item is to be worn (they are labeled in red for summer and blue for winter) •

Summer is from the start of summer term until autumn halfterm. • Winter is from autumn half-term until the end of spring term. We encourage you to label all items properly. The school cannot take responsibility for unnamed articles.

The Uniform Exchange The Uniform Exchange, located in the sports pavilion and run by parents, sells current school uniform and bags which are in good condition; no footwear (except games) or underwear is accepted. When the garments are sold, 75% of the price goes to the seller and 25% to the Uniform Exchange Fund which is used to buy equipment for school. Current Uniform Exchange opening times are available on the school website. Please note that ongoing minor changes take place each session.

The school outfitters ensure that supplies are available and that garment quality, style and colour are standardised.

The tartan scarf and kilt are supplied by Kinloch Anderson. The sixth form kilts are specially manufactured by Kinloch Anderson in the St George’s tartan.

The kilt is provided in all stock sizes ‘off the peg’ ie not made to measure, except for the length. The design allows for adjustment at both the waist and the hip. The fabric used to make the kilt has an added Teflon coating for protection, which should be dry cleaned only.

Direct through St George’s. Appointments for fittings are then arranged with Kinloch Anderson, No.4 Dock Street, Leith, Edinburgh EH6 6EY. The store has customer parking on site and is open Monday to Saturday between the hours of 9.00am-5.30pm and Sundays 10.00am-4.00pm.

Some sports eqiupment such as lacrosse sticks and mouth guards are available from St George’s PE department.

Our sportswear and PE Uniform is supplied by Limitless. It is available through Schoolblazer online.

SIXTH FORM GUIDELINES Members of the Sixth Form at St George’s School wear some clothes of their own choice within the Dress Code; this is a privilege which is granted to encourage independence of thought and action and to allow some freedom to develop a personal style. We ask our Sixth Form to wear items advised within the dress code in a well-fitting size and in the way it was designed to be worn. We thank families for their support in ensuring daughters in the Sixth Form are adhering to the guidelines. 12
