When you step into St George’s, you join a community with a strong sense of energy and purpose – and a lot of laughter. It is a community where curiosity thrives, friendships flourish and ambitions are championed. It is my privilege, as the Head, to lead this exceptional boarding and day school and support our girls to achieve their potential.

I believe that education should shape character, cultivate intellect, and broaden horizons. Our ethos of Confident, Capable and Connected is very much lived. Our girls benefit from small class sizes and expert teaching which challenge them to think deeply and enable them to receive top UK and global university offers. Every girl is known individually and encouraged to discover her unique strengths, and have the freedom to explore new interests and cultivate lasting talent.

Beyond the classroom, our rich co-curricular programme offers an array of possibilities from music and drama to sport, service and the outdoors. Whether following the day,

tailored boarding or full boarding model, all our girls benefit from dedicated and energised staff in an environment equipped with fabulous facilities.

At the heart of a St George’s education is the mission to empower our girls with the skills and knowledge to thrive in their adult lives, giving them opportunities at school to lead with empathy, express themselves with clarity, and excel in their chosen field. We are passionate about creating a space where young women can develop leadership skills, take academic risks and discover their own voices, ready for a life of learning. Our alumnae leave us as articulate, ambitious and compassionate individuals, ready to make a positive impact on a rapidly changing world.

As there can be no substitute for experiencing St George’s in person, I warmly invite you to reach out to our Admissions team and meet the girls and staff who make our School so special. I look forward to welcoming you in person and sharing with you the unique energy, purpose and joy which define St George’s.

ACADEMIC

Our dedicated staff deliver a diverse curricular and cocurricular education that stimulates and nurtures our girls’ interest in learning. Small class sizes are one of our greatest strengths, allowing our teachers to stretch the very brightest, and provide plenty of support for those who need it and we take great care to tailor teaching and learning to meet individual needs and ambitions.

Renowned for its value added, St George’s is placed in the top 3% of schools nationally for public exam outcomes at GCSE.

EAL UNIVERSITY CHOICES

The vision of our English as an Additional Language (EAL) department is to ensure language is not a barrier to success in academic or co-curricular life. Tuition is tailored for each pupil and our team work closely with teachers to ensure lessons address specific subject requirements. As well as subject support and English-language improvement, pupils can choose to prepare for the Cambridge suite of exams (PET, FCE and CAE) and we aim for pupils to achieve IELTS 7.5 by the time they leave St George’s, in readiness for university entrance.

St George’s pupils secure entry into the most academically competitive university courses across the sciences, arts and humanties and we are celebrating our fifth year of offers from Oxford University.

With A Level Fine Art, Photography and Textiles on offer, St George’s Sixth Form is also a stand out choice for those interested in further studies in the creative arts.

In recent years Upper Sixth EAL pupils have received offers from British universities including UCL, Durham, Warwick, Leeds and Loughborough.

PASTORAL SUPPORT

A large number of formal and informal interactions on a daily basis ensure that our pupils are well cared for at all times. Boarding staff, Tutors, Heads of Year and the EAL team work alongside our onsite Healthcare Professional to ensure the girls receive the individual care they need.

St George’s is renowned for the remarkable warmth and strength of relationships between girls across the year groups. House activities are woven through the School calendar and engender a profound sense of belonging, collective purpose and loyalty between our pupils.

St George’s has a vibrant Christian tradition, although we welcome girls from many faiths and backgrounds. All girls attend a weekly Christian service at our on-site Chapel and we regularly invite speakers of other faiths and world views to talk to our pupils.

BOARDING

Boarding is a really important and valuable part of St George’s School life. 25% of pupils are boarders. Our Years 7 to 10 enjoy the warmth and homeliness of Markham House in the main building, our Year 11 and Lower Sixth move to Knatchbull House in the heart of School and our Upper Sixth enjoy a university-style experience in Loveday House.

An engaging programme of activities is organised for weekday evenings and weekends (see Frequently Asked Questions) dovetailed carefully with the School timetable to ensure our boarders have sufficient time to rest and spend ‘family time’ in house.

EUROPE

My EAL teacher has supported me a lot with my lessons. Whenever I need help with an essay or homework she is always there to give me support.

AFRICA

Boarding feels like having a sleepover with your friends everyday! It’s a place where all boarders feel at home.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where do your international pupils come from?

The St George’s community includes a wonderful mix of girls from different countries, who bring fresh ideas, cultural thinking and diverse experiences to the life of the School. We currently have girls on roll from Austria, Australia, Bermuda, Canada, China, Dominica, Egypt, Hungary, Lithuania, Nigeria, Portugal, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Sweden, Uganda, UK, USA, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.

Do you have a buddy system for new joiners?

When your daughter arrives at St George’s, she will be allocated a ‘Shadow’ who will look after and guide her until she knows her way around the School and has made friends.

What sort of activities are arranged for boarders at the weekend?

Weekend outings are always very popular with our boarders and include London theatre trips, escape rooms, farm visits, theme parks such as Thorpe Park, dance workshops, cinema trips, festive shopping and visits to the beach. In addition to these, our boarders enjoy regular social events with Harrow School, Eton College, Winchester College and local boys’ prep schools.

What happens if my daughter is unwell and needs to be seen by a doctor?

If your daughter is unwell a consultation with our Healthcare Professional will be arranged. If necessary, your daughter can access NHS care free of charge at the point of delivery, either because she is entitled to it as a European national, or because you have paid the International Health Surcharge with her Child Student Visa. We have a number of clinics and hospitals within a short distance of the School.

How is diversity celebrated at St George’s? With a healthy mix of boarding and day pupils St George’s enjoys a natural diversity within the pupil body. Conscious thought about cultural differences is actively encouraged. Recent developments include the appointment of a Sixth Form Diversity and Inclusion Prefect, celebrating an annual ‘Cultural Diversity Week’ and reviewing and improving the diversity of the whole School curriculum.

Do all pupils have to leave the School for Exeat weekends?

There are two weekends a term when full boarders go home to parents or guardians. We strongly believe that a ‘change is a good as a rest’ and it is important for the girls to have a break from School.

What we eat is important. How do you cater for all cultures and tastes?

Menus are well balanced and include a nutritious salad and vegetarian option daily, as well as a range of fresh fruits and home-made yoghurts. Everyday there is a wide range of options that appeal to all cultures and tastes. For boarders, evening menus include themed ‘Grazing Nights’ which encourage girls to expand their tastes and try different dishes from around the world. Girls who have special dietary needs, such as a Halal diet or allergies and intolerances, can be catered for.

Does the School assist with the visa application process?

To ensure the best possible service and advice to parents, St George’s visa and immigration work is outsourced to Sable International who are a specialist immigration law firm. They will

manage the Student Visa application process on behalf of St George’s and your daughter, and any subsequent renewals as she progresses through the School.

How do you keep international parents in touch with their daughter’s progress?

We encourage parents and guardians to keep in close contact with boarding staff via a dedicated house duty phone. In addition to a published programme of grading and reports, parents and guardians can also email or speak to Tutors and Heads of Years to discuss pupils’ progress. We recognise that not all parents are able to attend Parents Evenings and so overseas parents can choose to attend online meetings if they wish, or send their appointed UK guardian.
