2026 ST Brahman & HK Cattle Annual Fall Production Sale

Page 1

Welcome

BRAHMAN FRIENDS, BREEDERS & ENTHUSIASTS,

As we prepare for our 2026 Annual Fall Sale, we are reminded of the progress made throughout the year and the opportunities that lie ahead. While the cattle industry continues to evolve, our commitment remains unchanged — to provide breeders with high-quality Brahman genetics backed by the knowledge, technology, and performance data needed to build stronger, more productive herds for generations to come. Whether your goals include strengthening maternal traits, incorporating proven and emerging genetics, or utilizing feed efficiency and performance data to guide breeding decisions, this year’s offering reflects the dedication and purpose behind our programs. Every breeding decision is made with the future in mind, recognizing that while each operation may have different goals, we all share a common commitment to the continued advancement of the Brahman breed. At STgenetics Brahman and HK Cattle, genetics have always been the foundation of our programs. Generations of careful selection within established cow families, strategic matings to influential sires, and an unwavering focus on phenotype, productivity, and feed efficiency have shaped the cattle we proudly offer today. By combining these principles with advancements in genomic testing, DNA technology, and individual animal performance evaluation, we continue to identify and develop cattle that offer measurable value beyond their pedigrees. Our goal is to provide breeders with more than quality genetics — we want to equip them with the information and confidence to make decisions that positively impact their operations for years to come. We invite you to evaluate this year’s offering and see firsthand the dedication behind each animal. Cattle will be available for viewing by appointment beginning two weeks prior to sale day, and we welcome the opportunity to visit with you about the genetics and performance information represented throughout the sale. We sincerely appreciate your continued interest, support, and confidence in our programs. We look forward to visiting with many of you at the ABBA National Show and the World Brahman Show in Mexico as we celebrate the breed and the people who continue to move it forward. We invite you to join us online on Thursday, November 19, 2026, at BestCattleSales.com for our Annual Fall Sale. Thank you for being part of our journey as we continue building on the past, investing in the future, and advancing the Brahman breed together. Sincerely,

Adelyn Allen

GDC Explanation

Feed is the single biggest expense in any livestock operation. As we select for animals that are more efficient, meaning animals that are able to demonstrate gains equal to their contemporaries while consuming less feed, we are not only lowering production costs but also minimizing the environmental footprint of that animal. The goal of the Genetic Development Center through feed efficiency testing is to identify animals that will add more bottom line profit to our customers while at the same time reduce the impact on the environment, which is beneficial to everyone.

Ultrasound Scanning Results Adapted From the Brahman Herd Improvement Records Program Manual. The Ultrasound Scanning Results Report consists of the final analysis of cattle that producers have scanned for carcass traits. Once your cattle are scanned by an approved Ultrasound Guidelines Approved Technician and have been interpreted by an approved lab, these results are reported to ABBA, added to your animal’s file, and then sent to you in this format. To obtain a copy of the ultrasound guidelines, visit the ABBA website or contact the ABBA office. This report consists of the animal’s registration number, private herd number, date of birth, sex, sire and dam information, and the weight and age in days at the time of scanning.

Ribeye Area The report gives the actual and adjusted ribeye area as well as a ration and rank for comparison within the contemporary group. The ribeye measurement is taken between the 12th and 13th rib. This measurement is a common estimator of total muscle.

Summer 2024

July - November 2024

Average Daily Gain plotted against Residual Feed Intake

Bull A VID: 128 ADG: 4.58 RFI: 6.15

The expected base Ribeye Area 1.1 in2/100 lbs of live weight. This would equate to a 1,000 lb animal having an 11.0 in2 REA. Anything under this would be less than ideal, while anything over this would be exceptional.

Bull B VID: 49 ADG: 4.41 RFI: -6.68

This is a multiple trait index including residual feed intake, average daily gain and age with the objective of estimating the relationship of efficiency and gain. This intake is a tool that is expected to increasegrowth rate and decrease feed intake of the progeny from bulls and heifers with feed efficiency phenotypes.

Residual Feed Intake (RFI) RFI is the difference between actual intake and predicted intake based on the animal’s gain, body weight, and composition. Animals on test are expected to eat “x” amount of feed according to their initial weight and target gain. The more they deviate from their expected intake, the more efficient or ineffient they are.

Feed Efficiency (FE) FE is the amount of feed consumed as compared with the body weight gained, expressed as a ratio – lbs. of feed/lb. of gain. In the example on the right from Summer 2024, Bull A and Bull B have similar Average Daily Gain; however, there was about nine pounds difference in dail Intake, making Bull B more profitable.

Percent IMF The next columns give the results for Percent IMF (Intramuscular Fat or Marbling). The actual and adjusted measurements are given as well as the ratio and rank among the contemporaries for this trait. The IMF measurements provides an estimate of the degree of marbling or intramuscular fat deposited in the ribeye that ultimately affects the USDA Quality Grade. Intramuscular Fat to Quality Grade Conversion %IMF 2.3-3.0 3.1-3.9 4.0-5.7 5.8-7.6 7.7-9.7 9.9 & Higher

R i b Fa t a n d R u m p Fa t The next two sets of columns report the actual and adjusted measurements for rib fat and rump fat as well as give the ratios and rank among the contemporary group for these two traits. The rib fat measurement is the most common measure of external fat on a carcass and is directly related to carcass yield grade. The rump fat measurement is an indicator of the total amount of carcass fat and is correlated to percent retail product: the more rump fat, the less pounds of lean product.
