Dear Parents, Having seen the output of a number of Primary and Secondary clubs during the last year, from drawing design to dance, rugby and musical theatre, as well as academic support and homework clubs, I have been so impressed by the ingenuity and creativity of our club supervisors. You may notice there are some changes and additions to this year’s brochure. We will be reviewing the provision regularly during the coming year. We have a number of new coaches and clubs, some of which are provided within the school structure, others through local sports and social clubs. We also anticipate being able to add to the selection in January and will keep you informed about additional clubs as these open during the school year. Whether students are intrigued by learning a musical instrument, taking up design drawing, or participating in school plays and sports teams, extra-curricular activities and clubs are important for their development. Extra-curricular activities enhance teamwork and provide a powerful framework to extend our children’s skills, engagement and development. We find that regular participation in enrichment activities and clubs enhances our children’s self-esteem and academic performance, while developing time management and a sense of adventure and aspiration. While the range of activities and interests that we support is wide, please do not hesitate to speak to our Clubs Secretaries if you have suggestions for a particular area that we do not currently offer. We are always happy to consider new clubs or activities. It may be that you yourself would like to run an activity, and if this is the case, again, please contact our Clubs Secretaries. I look forward to seeing our St George’s students enjoying a full range of extra-curricular pursuits over the coming year. Kind regards. Zeba Clarke Principal

REGISTRATION AND REGULATIONS
St George’s International School’s Extra-Curricular Activities can be booked via a club booking system called SOCS. The registration and allocation process in SOCS is automated and allocates clubs according to preferences, not ‘first come, first served’. You may specify your preferences per day, and the system will randomly pick your choices. We have provided instructions on how to use this system on My School Portal. Please click on the Buses, Clubs, Music tab on the home page to review the instructions in the format of a PDF and video, which walks you through the process. To sign up students for clubs, you will be able to access SOCS via My School Portal between Tuesday 14th July 10am until Friday 14th August 2026. Confirmation of club spaces will be emailed by Friday 21st August 2026. Once registration on SOCS has closed you will be able to enquire regarding club availability by emailing clubs@st-georges.lu. If the club you are interested in is at full capacity, you will be asked to log back into SOCS to register for the waiting list, which will be available as of Friday 21st August 2026. Regulations: 1. For health and safety reasons, each extra-curricular activity has an age limit, as well as a maximum number of participants, both of which are non-negotiable. 2. Extra-curricular activities will run from Wednesday, 3 September 2026 to Friday 2nd July 2027 unless otherwise stated (see notes on page 10 and following). Extra-curricular activities will not run on days when school lessons finish at noon. If sessions cannot run on PTSC (Parent-Teacher-Student Conference) evenings, we will inform you in the newsletter. 3. In the event of a Primary School activity session being cancelled, we will inform you as soon as possible. Should we need to cancel a club at short notice (such as on the same day) and you are unable to pick up your child/children at 3.15pm, we will endeavour to place them in AfterSchool Care, although this cannot be guaranteed, as demand for After-School Care is exceptionally high.

REGISTRATION AND REGULATIONS
4. When Secondary clubs are affected by inclement weather, without the possibility to use indoor space, students will be able to leave the site. Billing will not be reviewed on these occasions. 5. To cancel club attendance for the following term, email clubs@st-georges.lu and inform the respective Club Supervisor (through clubs@st-georges.lu) two weeks before the end of each term. 6. New students joining St George’s during the school year can join extra-curricular activities at any time, provided there are places available, after receiving confirmation from the Clubs Secretary. 7. For Primary students who sign up for extra-curricular activities running at 4.30pm, offsite supervision is required between 3.15pm and 4.30pm by the arrangement of the parent(s). 8. Care of music instruments used for clubs: Instruments are the responsibility of the owner or the person who signed the rental agreement. We recommend that all instruments are insured. All instruments and cases must be labelled clearly, with name, class and the St George’s International School Luxembourg address and phone number. On lesson days, instruments must not be left on the floor of the corridors but either in the classroom or in the instrumental storeroom. Please see the Music Brochure for additional information. 9. Some outdoor clubs do not have the option of running inside in case of bad weather. Therefore, students will need to come with the appropriate clothing, or we will call parents to request that students are collected earlier than 4.30pm or 5.30pm. Those sessions may also be cancelled at short notice due to weather uncertainties. Outdoor clubs will not have the option of using the school changing rooms. Therefore, all students who attend sports club are asked to dress appropriately on the day. 10. If applicable, when starting a new afternoon extra-curricular activity, please remember to cancel the student’s place on the school bus by contacting reception@st-georges.lu

CHARGES FOR EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
•
Charges for each club are stated in the Activities Information tables on pages 29 to 36, and will be billed by term in November 2026, March and July 2027.
•
Students who join after the activity has begun are billed for the full term.
•
We do not accept cancellations mid-term, except for those with extenuating circumstances. All clubs will be billed for the full term, whether or not your child/children continue to attend.
•
The school issues invoices for "Extras" (such as After-School Care, canteen, Clubs and individual music lessons) four times a year (November, March, May and July). These invoices cannot be divided by activity. For instance, we cannot bill Club activities solely to Parent 1 and Tuesday’s After-School Care solely to Parent 2, nor can we charge all Monday meals to Parent 1 and piano lessons to Parent 2. We appreciate your understanding in this matter. •
MERITE JEUNESSE: We will accept cancellations for Merite Jeunesse by 27th October 2026. This will result in a €50 administrative fee. For any cancellations after this date, the refund will be calculated by the accounting team, considering any excursions and weekly Clubs sessions which may, or may not, have been attended.
Please note: We keep the cost of extra-curricular activities to a minimum to allow for the occasional cancellation because of staff absence due to illness, training, school trip etc. We always try to cover any absences, but this is not always possible. Therefore, should three sessions, or more, be cancelled per term, there will be a reduction in cost.
8
PICK UP INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
Parents collect students from Gate 9 (just past door to Reception). Parents are required to stand within school boundaries, behind the small gate, so the Club Supervisor can mark the student out of the register before leaving the site. Gate 9 will be opened five minutes before the allocated pick-up time and close five minutes after. Once you have collected your child/children, please leave the site promptly to ensure safe and easy pick-up for everyone. Any Primary student not collected on time after a club activity will be taken to After-School Care and a charge will be applied. Parents will be asked to wait for their child/ren until the next available pick-up time which could be 5pm or 5.30pm. Please note that a late pick-up charge of €50 may be billed to you if you collect a student late without extenuating circumstances. Students may also have their place in clubs withdrawn as a result of repeated tardiness.

One session per week costs €232 per term, two sessions per week cost €464 per term, etc, prices being subject to increase by 2.5% in relation to any salary indexation. Students must pre-register on My School Portal, for one day per week up to five days per week, for a full term, with automatic rollover. Registration is based on a ‘first come, first served’ basis with a maximum 15 students. Parents can register through My School Portal at the same date as Extra-Curricular Activities. If the club reaches capacity, students can register on the waiting list for a chance to join when a spot becomes available. The club starts on Thursday 3rd September 2026 and finish on Friday, 2nd July 2027. We ask students leave the premises promptly when they have finished attending their club.
Creative Writing (Years 7 – 13) For students who enjoy being creative and expressing themselves through writing, this club provides a space to explore short stories, poetry, descriptive and narrative writing, and journals. It encourages imagination, helps develop writing skills, and gives students the confidence to share their ideas in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Debating (Years 10 – 13) Come along to Debating Club and let off some steam. Discuss the key issues of the day – locally, nationally or internationally. Join in with considered discussions about topics and issues that you feel strongly about, you set the agenda – not us. Take the opportunity to develop essential speaking, listening and thinking skills and to take part in local, national and international debating competitions. Due to the complex nature of some of the topics we debate, this club is only suitable for students in Year 10 and above.

Students learn how to turn an idea into a viable business concept, write a structured business plan, manage finances, organise production, and promote their business effectively. As part of the experience, students participate in a sales event at Cloche d’Or Shopping Centre, where they sell their products to the public and gain real retail experience. Teams are assessed on the quality of their business plan and their performance during the sales event. This club provides students with the knowledge, confidence, and practical experience needed to succeed, while developing creativity, teamwork, leadership, communication, and financial literacy.

Mérite Jeunesse The Mérite Jeunesse (MJ) programme is part of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, the world’s leading youth achievement award, which brings together practical experiences and equips young people with essential life skills. Mérite Jeunesse focuses on personal challenge and development and is adaptable to each participant’s interests and abilities. It presents young people with a balanced programme of voluntary activities, encouraging personal discovery and growth, self-reliance, perseverance, responsibility, and service to their community. There are three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. The award is based on long-term participation in physical activity, skill development, and volunteering. There is a fourth section, often the highlight of the programme, the Expedition. At Bronze level, students complete a two-day, one-night expedition; at Silver level, it lasts three days and two nights; and at Gold level, it extends to four days and three nights, with an additional residential project to be completed. Each level of the award requires two expeditions: a practice expedition and a qualifying expedition. For more information, visit: https://merite.jeunesse.lu/

SPORTS, DANCE AND GAMES
The minimum age for Silver Mérite Jeunesse is 15, and for Gold Mérite Jeunesse, it is 16. Students must reach the minimum age by March 2027 to start the requested level. It is only possible to enrol in Silver from Years 10 to 13, and in Gold from Years 11 to 13. Key Points •
Please note that students must attend each MJ session to be adequately prepared for expeditions. If a student misses two or more sessions without a valid reason, they may be asked to leave the Mérite Jeunesse Club.
•
We strongly recommend that only Year 10 and Year 12 students sign up for Silver and Gold Mérite Jeunesse, in order to avoid clashes with exams, which predominantly take place in Years 11 and 13
24
SPORTS, DANCE AND GAMES
•
Parents should note that the Mérite Jeunesse programme includes approximately 15–20 sessions per school year. Sessions are planned according to the programme schedule and therefore do not run every week.
•
Mérite Jeunesse is a programme designed to help students become more independent. In the unlikely event that a session is cancelled at short notice, we trust that students will inform their parents and make appropriate arrangements to travel home. Any student needing to contact home during school hours may do so via the pastoral office.
•
Registration
•
Priority will be given to students who have already completed Bronze or Silver MJ at St George’s (as evidenced by having at least three of the four sections signed off in the Online Record Book) and who wish to continue to Silver or Gold. However, it is possible to enrol in Silver or Gold without having completed previous levels.
•
The first MJ sessions for new participants will take place during the first week of October (Thursday 1st October 2026) and continue weekly thereafter. Once groups have completed their route planning before each expedition, their award leader may grant permission for them to miss individual sessions. Start dates for returning MJ participants will be communicated by the award leader via Teams, and it is the responsibility of participants to stay informed.
•
Sessions for each level will be held at 3:30pm on Thursday Award leaders may schedule additional mandatory sessions for groups that are not on track to complete their route planning by the deadline. Groups that do not complete their route planning at least three weeks before their expedition risk being removed from that expedition.
•
Expedition dates will be published before January 2027.
•
Expeditions will begin from the end of March 2027 at the earliest. Some expeditions may take place at the start or end of school holidays to minimise disruption to lessons.
•
Students are expected to attend school as normal on the day following their expedition.
