Term Three has seen a wonderful celebration of events with the St Francis of Assisi Feast Day, Father’s Day, Book Week and the School Disco, opportunities for our little community to come together I would like to express my gratitudetoalloftheparentswhohavesogenerouslygiventheirtimeordonatedtosupporttheseevents Wethank youforyourcontributiontobuildingourcommunity
NexttermourStageThreestudentswillbeengaginginacollaborativelearningprojectwiththesecondarystudents at St Clare’s College Waverley The focus of this project will be around entrepreneurial learning which encourages studentstothinkcriticallyandcreatively ThecollaborativeprojectwillcommencewithaLaunchDayatthecollege, followed by intensive work in each respective school context The experience will conclude with a Pitch Day at the collegewherethestudentswillsharetheworktheyhavedoneandbeprovidedwithopportunitiesforfeedback We arelookingforwardtoengagingwiththeteamatStClare’sandexploringhowthislearningcanbeembeddedinour futureprogramsatStFrancisofAssisi

This Term we launched Extraordinary Artwork in Ordinary Time, linked to the Back to Parish Initiative. The rationale behind this new initiative was to allow students to unpack and explore the extraordinary Gospel readingsthatarepresentedeachweekduringOrdinarytimeandpresenttheirinterpretationsoftheseGospel passages through a visual representation. The Extraordinary Artwork in Ordinary Time initiative is linked to our school's vision for learning. We strive as people of faith and as learners, to move from the ordinary to the extraordinary We are interconnected through stewardship, in which we serve and give to our parish and community

This term our Year 6 students were invited to nominate themselves to be part of the Extraordinary Artwork in OrdinaryTimeinitiative ThesestudentsthenmetwithMsdeVriestodiscussandinterprettheGospelpassage that was going to be read at an upcoming Mass This process allowed for the students to gain a deeper understandingoftheGospelpassagebybreakingapartandsharingtheirowninterpretationsofthepassage witheachother
Students then brainstormed the ways in which they would like to demonstrate their understanding of this passagethroughvisualrepresentation Bycreatingtheseindividualvisualrepresentations,studentswereable toshowtheirindividualinterpretationoftheGospel

Next term another group of students from other grades will be invited to nominate themselves to be part of ExtraordinaryArtworkinOrdinaryTime de Vries

The completed artworks were then framed and placed upon the altar at the Mass linked with the explored Gospel reading The families of those students whose artworks were going to be displayed at Mass were invitedtoattendMass.ThisinitiativeprovidedanopportunityfortheirartworkstobedisplayedandourParish communitytoseetheirdepictionsoftheGospelreading.
We also linked our new initiative with the commencement of our first Family Mass. We celebrated Mass with Kindergarten and Year 6 at our Buddy Mass. Not only were their beautiful artworks on display to be seen but families were invited to attend and then join together for pizza in the Parish Hall straight after Mass, an opportunityforourfamiliestoconnectandjoininamealtogether.
AfterdelvingdeepintothevarietyofwaystointroduceScriptureinourclassrooms,manyteachershavenowbegun implementingwaystoallowstudentstoexploretheScripturetheyarelearning Allowingstudentstimetoexploreand respondtoScriptureprovidesthemwithadeeperlevelofunderstanding Theyareabletoidentifycharacters,setting, main messages, and retell significant themes during this time Kindergarten are working through the lens of exploration through choice Students listen to the Scripture and are able to respond in a way that appeals to them This could be through sculpture, art, writing, or play We are excited to introduce some new ‘Exploration Stations’ into ourInfantsclassroomsinTerm4!

Francesca, a first speaker, recounted that she loved how it was a friendly competition, and by participating in the debating we have learnt skills that will stay with us for life, like time efficiency and thinking on your feet During the inter school debating competition, each team participated in two debates with varying topics The topic for the debateswithHolyCrosswasintriguingwithteams considering whether ‘Tourism should be in Antarctica.’ The second debate was situated in our own school where the topic was ‘Goldilocks should have gone in the three bears house’ During the competition at school, fellow stage 3 classmates assisted the debates as chairperson and timekeeper The St Francis of Assisi debating teams shared many wonderful memories and pleasing wins during the inter school debating of 2022
This statement still rings in our ears after each debate we encountered Throughout this term, Stage Three completed their long awaited debating unit Stage Three students studied the elements of debating and were put into groups for their debating assessment. THE ASSUMPTION
The Assumption is one of the most honoured Feast DaysintheCatholicChurch Onthe15thofAugust,the VirginMarywasassumedintoheaven;bodyandsoul Being the Immaculate Conception, this was possible for nothing weighed the Virgin Mary down As a community, St Francis of Assisi held a Mass commemorating this Feast Day. Students, teachers and parishioners attended the Mass and found it enjoyable
This term we have had the privilege to celebrate our special fathers during a Father’s day celebration! On Monday, 5th of September, fathers/uncles/grandfathers and children were invited to our school. Morning tea was served at 7:30am, then a ‘Battle of the ages’ sport competition was held After that, our fathers and\or special men in our lives came into our classrooms and were shown their child’s schoolwork To conclude the morning, we had a lovely Mass celebration with two fathers sharing reflectionsaboutbeingaDad HappyFathersDay dadsandspecialmeninourlives!

On the 26th of August A few students from St Francis of Assisi were privileged to attend the Sydney Catholic Schools Athletics Championships These students were successful at the Conference 1 carnival, Estelle, Jono, Charlotte, Maximus,LucaandLouis Theydidanamazingjobparticipatinginabigvariety of events including: 100m, 200m, 800m, Long Jump and High Jump Accompanied by some of our teachers, students went up against loads of other kids from all Sydney Catholic Schools. With a lot of hard work students achievedoutstandingresultswithEstelle,Jono,MaxandCharlottesuccessfully qualifying for the Mackillop Trials It was an extremely exhilarating day that mostdefinitelygotusallpumpedtodoitagainduringthenexttrials Thesewill take place at Sydney Olympic Park against students from the whole of NSW Our sports coordinator Mr McPhee stated that students were extremely impressiveanddemonstratedahighlevelofathleticachievement MrMcPhee and the community of St Francis of Assisi are excited to see how far these studentswillgointhiscompetition!

“POW”“KABOOM”.Thesearethesoundsthatyouwould probably expect to be associated with this subject, considering the fact that kids and science are in the samesentence InTerm3,somestudentsfromYear4 to Year 6 have had the opportunity to work on a different type of Science called “STEM MAD'' STEM is another type of science that all students will get to learn in the Primary ages that consists of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics The chosen students used all of these skills and put them together to create a finished product to make a difference.Itwasourgoaltomakeadifferenceinthis worldthatweliveinwiththeproductsthatwecreate Thestudentsshowedgreatinitiativebyusingproblem solving skills, an impressive use of growth mindset when things didn’t exactly work out in their prototype and a remarkable amount of teamwork and support for and from other students All students also met standards by trying their hardest to make their ideas moreflexiblesothattheycouldbechangedslightlyif needed.Theyalsojustifiedtheirproducts'realisticand scientific features with research to prove that it was realistic and scientific Georgie in Year 6 stated that it wasareallyfuntaskandagreatexperiencethatshe hopes there will be more of throughout our later schoolyears

Duringthisterm,StFrancisOfAssisiheldtheirannualBook Weekparade.Theparadebeganat9:00amandstudents from K 6 paraded around the court. David in Year 6 stated that “the parade was very lively and awesome.” Many students dressed up as characters from the same book, for example, characters from the Babysitters Club, Dr Susess' Thing 1, 2 and 3 and a group in Year 6 that stood out were Disney Princesses The Princesses from Year6startedtheschoolfunandtheparadefinishedwith the one and only Elton John Rocket Man from Kindergarten Allstudentsshouldbecommendedontheir outfits
Ourfinalactivityfortheweekwasadramaperformancewhichshowed us when facing problems there is a solution! They sang, danced and actedouttheperformanceandeveninteractedwithsomeofthekids. Our school loved this event and learnt about a lot of cool Australian books!Wewouldloveforthemtocomebacksoon!

On Monday in Week 7, we partook in the coolest day ever. Stage 3 participated in Ranger Jamie Tours, engaging andexcitingSTEMactivitieswhichincludedblowinguppingpongballsandballoonsinalargebarrelonthecourt! Wealsoexperimentedwithmorecommonitemsthatwewouldfindinoureverydaylives,whichinourcasewasa jamsandwich Asweplacedthejamsandwichintheliquidnitrogenfilledbowl,asfastastheblinkofaneye,the sandwichfroze Whenitwastimetograbthesandwichfromthebowlitresultedinthesandwichtransferringinto tinylittlepieces
WELL BEING WEEK
Theendresultswereactuallyprettygood,notallwereperfectbutthey had their own element in different ways! Also on behalf of our school I wanttogiveabigthankyoutoMrButcherforputtingthistogetherfor us!Wereallyappreciateit!
Sadlythefunhadtoendforhalfanhourforourafternoontea.AssoonaswefinishedafternoonteaRangerJamie brought in wooden go carts with wheels to allow us to have a competition. One student was pushing while the otherhadtodrivethevehicle
Following this we participated in science experiments and created rockets made of paper and lots of tape, with the aim of making the perfect shape to match the launcher's shape Our rockets were launched into the air and aimedtopoponeoftheballoonsstuckonthewall!

On Day 2 for stage 3, St Francis' very own amazing Mr Butcher taught us more STEM For this activity we had to design a hybrid animal with a body, head or tail of a water, land or air animal but only one for each part of the body

SCHOOL DISCO
DJKITKATalongsideDJDESTINYplayedthemusicandstudentswereallowedtosuggestsongsorevensing songs for the school! After all that excitement, it was time for each class to do a short dance and for the teacherstochoosethebestdancers!

There was an ample amount of Sushi to fill our stomachs, which gave us the energy to dance Dozens of lollies filled the dance floor! After we ate and danced, students could go outside and have their hair braided or get a tattoo Glow sticks were the number one hit at the disco Nearly every student had one graspedintheirhand!

This term the Social Justice Team have been making no sew blankets for the St Vincent’s de Paul Winter Appeal.Wehopethatpeoplelessfortunatethanourselvescanstaywarmonthosecoldandchillynights. Our Family Educator, Mrs Wong, also made a no sew blanket with the parents. Making the blankets was a bittrickybutweperseveredandwereabletofinishthembeforetheendofterm MsBeerandtheSocialJusticeTeam
