T

he fact is, I hate just about every aspect of county fairs–the rides, the junk food, the noise level–except one, the people. I am fascinated by the endless varieties of body types and kinds of people that fairs attract. Certainly fairs provide a graphically powerful backdrop for all kinds of irrational and otherwise photogenic human activity. My only frustration is that I see many more good photographs than I can record. Nonetheless, here are some examples taken from fairs in Western North Carolina and Upstate New York that I hope you will enjoy.
