Sunset at Buhl Farm Park
Sharpsville Area Recreation Park – Located on East High Street Ext. in Sharpsville, PA, the park features a short trail, pavilion with picnic tables and two significant historical points of Mercer County interest: Canal Lock #10, a guard lock on the Erie Extension Canal from 1840 – 1871 and the Frederick J. Raisch log cabin, built before 1810 is believed to be one of Mercer Counties oldest structures. The park sits on the Shenango River and is a popular fishing spot.

Lake Wilhelm the suburban Shenango Valley. Visitors may spend their day picnicking, camping, boating, jet skiing, water skiing or enjoying nature’s beauty at one of the many recreation or access areas located on the lake. Fishing enthusiasts are attracted to the waters for the bass, walleye, muskellunge and a variety of panfish that inhabit the lake. Thousands of anglers are drawn to the dam’s outflow area to fish for trout. Located at the lake is a trail for off road vehicles or for hiking. Around the shoreline of the lake are lovely picnic sites and pavilions to rent for a day of fun. Another popular activity at the lake is bird watching with a large variety of migratory birds stopping over at the lake. Birds that have made a home at the lake include Bald Eagles, Osprey and Trumpeter Swans. Other animals that inhabit the lake are beavers and river otters.
Shenango River Lake – a 3,560 acre River Lake situated adjacent to
Riverside Park – Greenville, PA - 89 acre park, sitting on the banks of the Upper Shenango River Water Trail, with paved roadway for walking, running and biking. Several pavilions with picnic tables are located throughout the park along with a softball field, playground, disc golf course and amphitheater. The park has a nature trail that leads through the woods and connects with the Shenango River Bike Trail. The park is also the location of Carried Away Outfitters with a launch site to kayak or canoe the Upper Shenango River. Hempfield Park – Large fenced in playground, small pond and two covered pavilions with picnic tables. features a public swimming pool with a separate wading pool for toddlers and changing facilities, basketball courts, a playground, restroom facilities and a walking trail. There is a gazebo and several pavilions for gatherings and picnics, a duck pond with dock and a 9-hole disc golf course and baseball/softball fields.
Grove City Memorial Park – Grove City, PA - This community park Frank H. Buhl with hiking, tennis, fitness trail, swimming, playgrounds, Nature Explore at Sandy’s Place, kayaking, bike pump track, disc golf, pickle ball, driving range, baseball field, picnicking, indoor and outdoor pavilions that are available to rent for any special occasion, an outdoor amphitheater and the only FREE public golf course in the United States.
Buhl Farm Park – Hermitage, PA - 300 acre public park donated by pavilions, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts and a playground.

Trails
Bayview ORV Area – Located off Route 846, the area is open from May 27 September 24, sunrise to sunset. Posted regulations must be observed. Riders must stay on posted paths. Current registration must be displayed, helmets must be worn and children under 10 years are not permitted to drive an ORV.
State Game Lands
The Buhl Park Fitness Trail – established in 2008 and is equipped with stations to provide stretch, muscle development, and cardiovascular conditioning. The trail is 9/10 mile long and follows a beautiful winding path through trees and wetland.
Carried Away Outfitters – With three locations, one in Riverside Park Greenville, a retail location on Main Street Greenville and a third location in Jamestown, Carried Away Outfitters has a fleet of kayaks, canoes and bicycles for rent to enjoy local waterways, lakes and trails. Organized groups, families or just friends can enjoy paddling down the newly opened channel on Shenango River and cycling bike paths throughout Mercer County.
SGL 130 – Sandy Lake, PA, contains 3,182 acres of wooded terrain interspersed with swamps and open areas. Deer, stocked pheasants, woodcock, and grouse are the primary game species. SGL 270 – Sheakleyville, PA, contains 2,203 acres of generally open terrain surrounding Lake Wilhelm. The mixture of woodlots and swampy areas makes for good habitat for waterfowl, woodcock ,deer, grouse, rabbits and stocked pheasants.
Coonie Trail and Amphitheater – A ½ mile self-guided nature trail with 15 stations to learn interesting facts about plants and their role in the environment. The trail and amphitheater are located on the north side of Shenango River Lake and west of Route 18.

Chestnut Swim Beach – On the Shenango River Lake Reservoir and located off State Route 846 in Sharpsville, PA. Coolspring Corn Maze – Experience the fall adventure that has all age groups talking! Just off I-79 on Route 62 near Mercer, you will find the Coolspring Corn Maze. Get lost in their 10 acre Corn Maze. Race the pedal tractors and enjoy hayrides and indoor hay maze. This attraction runs midSeptember through the end of October. Fair Haven Farms – A destination for your fall family activities. Fall festival is open Saturdays & Sundays, mid-September –end of October. Autumn is the perfect time to select some beautiful pumpkins and navigate the corn maze. Try your skill set at Pumpkin Chunkin and visit the farm animals and attractions for toddlers and school age kids.

Maurice K. Goddard State Park – located near Sandy Lake, PA. Maurice K. Goddard State Park is one of PA’s finest state parks. The 2,856-acre state park features 1,860-acre Lake Wilhelm that’s very popular with anglers. 20 hp motors can be used there and there is also a 241 slip marina. Many recreational activities attract visitors in every season. During the summer months the popular activities are boating, fishing, hiking, and biking. In the winter months, the state park is a great place for cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowmobiling, and ice fishing. Also located at Maurice K. Goddard State Park is one of the state’s 13 designated scenic byways. Lake Wilhelm Scenic Byway, Creek Road, is 6.4 miles long and runs the western side of Lake Wilhelm and Sandy Creek.
Mercer County boasts more than eight campgrounds to accommodate everything from tents to RVs. More than just a place to sleep, campgrounds offer recreational facilities, hiking, entertainment and community, all in rich and scenic settings.

French Creek – This beautiful waterway begins in Chautauqua County, western New York and flows for 117 miles though the northwestern Pennsylvania counties of Erie, Crawford, Mercer and Venango until it empties into the Allegheny River in Franklin, Pennsylvania. French Creek is great for boating, fishing, hiking, hunting, camping and viewing wildlife that is abundant along the creek.

Kidd’s Mill Covered Bridge – Built in 1868 and restored in 1990, Kidd’s Mill is the last covered bridge in Mercer County, and the only remaining bridge in PA with an all-wood truss design. 120 feet long, the covered bridge is open to hikers and bikers.

SGL 284 – Leesburg, PA, and extending into Lawrence County, contains 1,385 acres of woodlots interspersed with swampy open areas. Deer, waterfowl, stocked pheasants and rabbits are the most prevalent same species.
John C. Oliver Multi-Purpose Trail – A 12½-mile trail that loops around Lake Wilhelm at Maurice K. Goddard State Park. Along the north shore, the scenic loop is open to hiking, biking, and snowmobiling. The north shore has many vistas that overlook the lake. The trail on the south shore is open to hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing.

SGL 294 – Mercer, PA, contains 417 acres of swampy, wooded terrain. Waterfowl, deer, rabbits and stocked pheasants are the primary game species.
Seth Myers Nature Trail – A ½ mile self-guided National Recreation Trail located northeast of the Shenango Dam. At Mahaney Recreation Area there are 17 numbered posts with pamphlets inviting visitors to learn about the varied habitats and the relationship between plants, animals and man. Trout Island Trail – A 2.4 mile out and back fully paved trail in Sharpsville, following the Shenango River. The trail offers views of woodlands, farmlands, and the Shenango Dam. The first half mile of the trail, is downhill; from there, the trail levels out.
Shenango River Lake
Shenango Trail – An 8-mile trail along the Erie Extension Canal of the Shenango River Lake. Experience the dazzling views of the Shenango River Lake on the upper end of the lake. Shenango River Trail – From Main St. in Greenville to Porter Rd. 1.3 miles of a proposed 10.5 mile trail. The trail is crushed limestone & is comfortable for walking, running, bicycling, and cross country skiing. At .80 of a mile there is a connecting trail to Riverside Park.
Pymatuning Deer Park – Located in Jamestown, PA. The park features over 250 animals and birds from around the world. The animals will delight you with their antics. You’ll see lions and tigers from the Far East and several species of deer. You can pet and feed many of the animals. There is a petting zoo that the little ones will love. Take a ride on the “Deer Park Express” train through the backwoods and count all the animals you’ll see. For the cowboys and cowgirls there are pony rides and a western town to enjoy. Skydive Pennsylvania – Located near Grove City, PA. Skydive Pennsylvania is a USPA affiliated full time commercial skydiving school. The school has the most progressive training program in Pennsylvania that exceeds USPA standards and has extremely experienced professional instructors.
Upper Shenango River Water Trail – The Upper Shenango River Water Trail provides 23 miles of easy paddling in scenic northwestern Pennsylvania. Starting at Pymatuning State Park, and running though the towns of Jamestown and Greenville, the trail ends at the Army Corp of Engineers facility at Shenango River Lake. Keystone Safari – The area’s newest attraction with fun for the whole family. Visitors can expect to feed and interact with over 100 animals, including local celebrities, the reticulated giraffe family. For those who prefer thrills, visitors can conquer our beginner or intermediate zip-line adventure courses. Coming soon is our Safari Tour bus rides. Visitors will board our open-air buses for a one-hour tour to see multiple regional exhibit areas where many larger species of animals will roam in a natural setting. dedicated in 1934 and built for the purpose of regulating water flow into the Shenango and Beaver Rivers. It also impounds flood waters after excessive rain. With a 17,088 acre reservoir, Pymatuning Lake is the largest man-made lake in the state. 20 hp motors are permitted on the lake which is great for boating, fishing, swimming, picnicking and many more activities. More people visit Pymatuning than almost any other state park. There are many viewing areas for wildlife around the lake.

Fishing Lake Wilhelm – The 1,860 acre lake is located in Maurice K. Goddard State Park near Sandy Lake, PA. Lake Wilhelm has a 241-slip marina and a 48-space dry land mooring area. Boat rentals, rowboats, pontoon boats, paddle boats, kayaks and canoes can be rented at the concession in the Marina area. Common species that inhabit the lake are largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, muskellunge, bluegill, crappie, catfish, perch and sunfish. The lake is surrounded by beautiful wooded rolling terrain and is adjacent to Maurice K. Goddard State Park.
