WaterFire Sharon
WaterFire Sharon,PA was introduced in 2013, on the Shenango River in downtown Sharon PA. 2018 was the sixth year for this successful event that originated in Providence Rhode Island. WaterFire Sharon is an all-day arts & music festival – featuring fine arts and performing arts, that span a significant portion of the Shenango River front and downtown Sharon area.
Each day-long event begins at 2:00 p.m. and offers music, food and interactive arts experiences centered on a unique theme; all free of charge to the public. Actual WaterFire performances begin at dusk.
During the day the streets of Sharon are filled with white tents with regional artists selling their wares, there are multiple stages throughout the town with live performances, and a children’s area to focus on the entertainment and arts related activities for our younger visitors. As dusk settles on the town, in beat to ceremonial music, 55 braziers, (or bonfires) are lit on the river. These braziers are metal baskets filled with cedar and pine, which when lit, fill the air with a light and pleasing aroma for all to enjoy. Visitors sit along the river banks and watch the fires burn, smell the aroma of the wood, enjoy the music and watch the fire performers.

New in Grove City, PA... Keystone Safari
After nearly four years of planning and construction, Keystone Safari opened the walk-through portion of the new park to the public for the first time in November of 2018. This area of the park includes over 100 animals and 20 species representing a wide variety of the animal kingdom. There are several up close and interactive experience available around this area of the park including visits and feeding opportunities with the park’s giraffes, reindeer, barnyard animals, and many others.
Throughout the year at Keystone Safari you can enjoy educational and interactive shows and activities which change with the season. Lighting Displays, Camel Rides, Reindeer encounters and photo opportunities were a favorite for the 2018 holiday season. During the Spring and Summer there will be several special activities, which will include an animal themed bounce house park for younger guests and the park’s two zip-line adventure courses for a wide range of ages who will fit safely in the park’s safety harnesses. Guests will also experience unique keeper talks and shows with a variety of animals. Several new species including: Mandrill Baboons (the world’s largest monkey) and the black and white Colobus Monkeys are expected to be viewable by park guests beginning in the spring of 2019.
The new Safari Tour will explore nearly 100 acres of the park during a one-hour ride on open air, custom modified safari buses. The Safari Tour will pass through multiple regional exhibit areas where many larger species of animals from around the world will roam freely in a natural setting. The Safari is expected to open in the Summer of 2019. An opening date for this ride is to be determined.
Keystone Safari has been designed and built by the Guiher Family along with countless others who have been a part of the Keystone Safari team. The family owned and operated park has a dual mission to preserve rare and endangered animals from around the world and to educate guests of the threats many animals face in the world today. Guest visits are the park’s primary source of funding for the care of the animals as well as the continued construction and upgrades for the facility.
The initial reviews of the park have been excellent across the board on social media. Guests should expect to be impressed by the spacious naturalistic habitats the animals enjoy at the park and amazed by the up close an interactive opportunities experienced around the entire park. Keystone Safari is truly one of a kind.

There is something special about outdoor activities that draws families and friends closer, makes getting healthy fun and leads to an adventure you will long remember. We have identified key outdoor attractions to put on your must-do list.
Take a friend or your family and hike or bike the 12 mile scenic multi-use paved trail that loops around Lake Wilhelm at Maurice K. Goddard State Park. There is a lot of nature to view from this trail so don’t be surprised to see Bald Eagles, Osprey or Trumpeter Swans. Other animals that inhabit the lake are Beavers and River Otters.
Have you ever explored a trail on buggy? Well you can do just that at Hells Hollow Wildlife Adventure Trail in Mercer (724-662-1999). Rent a trail buggy or hike and explore 8 miles of historical, environmental and wildlife trails. See beaver dams, deer, wild turkey and try bird watching. Explore waterfalls, and one of Mercer County’s first iron ore furnaces. See Hell’s Hollow Farm with an old stone house built in 1824 and wander thru acres of historic Indian hunting grounds.
There are numerous smaller trails for your enjoyment including: the 2.54 mile Trout Island Trail in Sharpsville. This trail passes through woodland, farmland and travel adjacent to the Shenango Valley dam. In addition there are several self-guided nature trails managed by Shenango River Lake.
Scouts, organized groups, families and friends can enjoy paddling down the newly opened channel on Shenango River. The total water trail is 23 miles and there are numerous launch points. Enjoy 8 miles of the water trail from Pymatuning Reservoir to Riverside Park in Greenville. Carried Away Outfitters (724-456-7334) and Pymatuning Rental & Information (724-877-6104) have a fleet of kayaks and canoes for rent to enjoy local waterways & lakes.
For high power boating, launch your vessel at the Shenango River Lake for an excitement filled day of water skiing and tubing. Areas are provided on the lake for unlimited horse power operation and water skiing as well as areas designated for electric motors, restricted horsepower and minimum wake operation.
Fishing is a popular past-time in the Mercer County area with both Lake Wilhelm and Shenango River Lake offering good-size bass and quality channel catfish. Shenango River Lake attracts fishing enthusiasts for walleye, crappie and muskellunge. In addition, thousands of anglers are drawn to the dam’s overflow area for the trout fishery which is stocked year-round by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
For the adventurous, SkydivePA offers skydiving taught by experienced, professional instructors. Skydive Pennsylvania is a USPA affiliated full time commercial skydiving school.
