PRESIDENT’S REPORT Happy May plumbers & professionals! I hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather & taking advantage of the preseason “local summer” at our beautiful shore. Be prepared for customers to take plunges on their outdoor projects like opening peoples summer homes, new BBQs, pool heaters, and fireplaces as we approach the warmer months.

We have gotten a few hot days across the state recently and look forward to more this month. As we approach hotter, more humid weather be sure to stay hydrated! Take caution when working in attics and other extra hot spaces. Stay safe out there people, we need ya!

This month’s free educational class will be the last until September. Catch the class at the Bouer P.H.C. office: 1100 U.S. Hghwy 9, Howell 07731 this Thursday May 21st 6:00-8:30pm If you haven’t already stopped by; on the third Thursday of each month, these free educational classes are open to all members of the state league and their employees! As always, a great thanks to Our VPs Vincent Tinervia & Mark Bleiweis along with many of our members for their effort and continued support with making these classes happen.

Few quick updates for everyone: The Department of Labor has authorized the Approved Apprenticeship Program.

Applications are being processed and approved, more information to be posted on the website as soon as available. By the end of the year, we expect most towns to be implementing the updated electronic filing/inspection system Updates to come in on that front as we know more. This month, Mark Bleiweis and I had the pleasure of meeting with Federated Insurance in regards to insurance discounts passed along to league members. April 29th advisory board meeting voted unanimously to hire the recommended marketing company to assist in building the league’s member portfolio.

A reminder; the league has been continuing efforts towards license enforcement throughout the state. To do your part in combatting unlicensed contractors, please create a record and report the grievance to the Division of Consumer Affairs (DCA) as well as to the State League along with any available supporting photos/documentation. The board will file all completed complaints on behalf of members. You can find links & more information for DCA on our site. Be sure to check our league social media pages and website for up to date info on events & meetings. One thing that doesn’t change is the valued support & assistance we can utilize from our sponsors. First Year Vice President Report A very eventful month. We signed up a Media Company to try to increase membership. I had the great pleasure of playing golf with Atlantic Plumbing Supply. I played with Past present Doug Loranger, my nephew and Howard Miller from Altherm. A lot of laughs and we actually won. It was a great day with one of the state Leagues top vendors. Vinny and I went up to see Pascack Valley association. Thanks to Mr Mike Medaglia there president for the invite. They have many good ideas on how to improve our league and I will take into consideration moving forward as president. CONVENTION is around the corner do your best to get down there this year. Meet the vendors and your brother plumbers. Go over and vote for the resolutions. Second Year Vice President Report Hello Brother Plumbers, In April I had the opportunity to help write and go over the national mechanical inspectors test. It was very interesting to see how the process works And meet other code officials from around our country.

On April 30th we had our monthly education class at Steve Bouer’s office , it was a very interesting and educational experience with Weil & McLain boilers. Rob Dun did an excellent job of explaining the new evergreen boilers and the updated ultra boilers and different piping arrangements for there boilers .. all these classed are free to our members and there employees. Take advantage of these classes.

I also attended Building safety week in Atlantic City and would like to congratulate Dimitri Checkur on being selected for Plumbing Instructor of the Year..

Fourth Year Vice President Report Hello everyone, We had an incredible trip to Spain last week. It was my first time there, and I have to say—the sights were absolutely amazing, the food was outstanding, and spending time with the brotherhood of our fellow plumbers made it even more special. It was truly a great experience all around.

After Spain, we had already planned Jaxson’s spring break trip to Fort Lauderdale, so we came straight down here to continue the family time.

Unfortunately, I was planning to be back in time for April’s meeting, but our flight was canceled last minute. We had checked before heading to the airport and everything showed on schedule, but upon arrival, we found out it had been canceled.

So, here I am—stuck on the beach in Fort Lauderdale. Could be worse!

“Washy, Washy” By Dimitri Checkur It’s Summertime, and that means Cruisin’! June through August is the premier time to Ship out. Boats are loaded with Travelers. Maximum-double occupancy. In fact, Twenty One Million People will board a Cruise Ship this Year. I guess it’s that nice, romantic, all-inclusive, Summer getaway everyone is looking for. So back out of that crawlspace and purchase Two tickets to Paradise (leave the kids home). It will all still be there when you get back to Bayonne.

A Cruise Company is Par-none at preparing a ‘world of Relaxation’ for You. Pampered guests will never feel off-kilter. Had a few Bay Breezes before boarding? No problem. Even when you’re not seeing straight, a Ship has been designed to keep you feeling balanced in choppy waters. You can even shoot pool or go bowling with perfect ‘Levelity’; or simply hold hands and stroll the Decks, while housekeeping elegantly prepares your Suite from the aftermath of it’s last rekindled romance. Which brings me to the first of three important Cruise ‘rules’. Hands. Your hands will be sliding down Banisters, rifling through the Buffet, and gently caressing your partner all week. Rule One? Washy, Washy. Make sure those hands are always clean. Germs love confined spaces and shared amenities. Second rule? Avoid the ‘endless’ Raw Oysters and Sushi at all cost. Hands again. Buffets have lots of ‘Sailors’ touching all that delicious, room-temperature RAW Seafood. Dive too deep into that Petri Dish, and you’ll be back in your Cabin feeling like a Dingy in a Hurricane. Finally, No Bananas on board…ever! Bananas stowaway Snakes and Spiders, spoil other produce quickly, and are often the only thing left floating to help rescuers locate where the last Ship has sunk. They’ve been Bad Luck since the 1700’s! So…NO Bananas on board!

One thing that IS always on board is your nicely dressed Captain. That Guy seems to be everywhere. And why is HE so relaxed? Well, first off, he’s not steering the Ship. The Captain is out to Lunch or taking pictures with all the Ladies. More importantly, he has a boatload of Plumbers working beneath him. Each Ship has a Chief Plumber and 4-10 Plumbers and technicians on call 24/7. It’s his very own Plumbing and Heating Co. of tired Brothers and Sisters, working behind the silk curtain, running his show. They don’t meet the Captain…ever! He’s at his fancy dinners, greeting all of of you Cruisers with his bright Smile, custom Cufflinks and Warm Handshake. Wait! Warm Handshake? Didn’t we say Washy, Washy?! Suddenly, your Belly feels a little uneasy.

You tell your Wife you’re making a quick pit-stop back at the Room, and you’ll meet her out on the Dance Floor. Keep your bearings though.

Remember, at 12 Nautical Miles off shore, you’re in International Waters. Gambling is legal! You linger too long, and the wife could game away what you just saved for your next Power Tool. You briefly sit down, thinking about Plumbing. How does a Ship’s Drainage actually work. All that DWV can’t possibly maintain 1/8” to 1/4” slope, can it? NO! Those 4-10 Plumbers spend their days chasing down endless “Poo Locker” service calls. That’s terminology for toilet ‘with a Vacuum.’ Sucker systems flush the Ship. Once processed, the effluent can be legally discharged three nautical miles from shore. But what about Black Water? I said Gambling, baby. At 12 Nautical Miles, let the International Games begin. Black Jack…and Black Water! Were playing Craps, Fella and all that Untreated sewage is on the table (and off of the Boat). Ante up. As long as you’re actively traveling at least 4 knots an hour, and releasing it at an approved rate, it’s fine. They say some of the older ships, like their older passengers, aren’t quite able to hold it that long. Might be a little closer to shore. A Large ship can discharge over one billion gallons a year of black and grey water into the Ocean. Woah Nelly. I think we can cancel the Jet Skis.

When they’re not fixing Poo Lockers, a Ship’s Plumbers are repairing Check Valves. If a ship tilts sharply, seawater can actually flow back through failed valves, flooding decks and interior spaces. Or late at night, while you’re sleeping off $14 Cocktails, they’re maintaining the floating Sewage Treatment Plant. Then again, maybe they’re desalinating, filtering, disinfecting and remineralizing Fresh water for that crisp, refreshing Mountain water taste. They work many, many hours. For all they do, a Ship’s Plumber can earn $75,000 a year, plus Free Food and Lodging.

That’s A LOT of Clams, if you’re ever considering jumping ship from your current P&H Employer.

Sadly, at some point, all Vacations must come to an end. For those of you who flew to your home port, it’s time to board the Plane. Ever wonder who’s maintaining the Aircraft’s Lavatory on a flight home after all that Raw Oyster and Sushi? Nobody! You can’t even access a Plane’s Plumbing from inside, so we’re no help at all in the Air. Don’t you remember the Norwegian flight in 2018, carrying 85 Plumbers to a Trade event in Germany? 20 Minutes after take-off, the Toilet broke, and the whole Plane had to TURN BACK around! Yet I believe, in the Bottom of my heart, that if just one NJSLMP Member was on board that flight, WE would have found a way to fix it. Anyway, fly high, smooth sailing, and have a great Summer Brothers and Sisters. Just remember…Washy, Washy.

Annual Inspection. Chimneys, fireplaces, and vents shall be inspected at least once a year in accordance with the requirements of section 15.2.

Damaged or Deteriorated Liners. If the flue liner in a chimney has softened, cracked, or otherwise deteriorated so that it no longer has the continued ability to contain the products of combustion (i.e., heat, moisture, creosote, NFPA 211: 14.9* and flue gases), the liner shall either be removed and replaced, repaired, or relined with a listed liner system or other approved material that will resist corrosion, softening, or cracking from flue gases at temperatures appropriate to the class of chimney service.

Size. The chimney or vent shall be resized as necessary to control flue gas condensation in the interior of the NFPA M1801.3.1 chimney or vent and to provide the appliance, or appliances served, with the required draft. For the venting of

oil-fired appliances to masonry chimneys, the resizing shall be done in accordance with NPFA 31.

Apprenticeship Training Program Report - May 2026 We're calling for membership participation: Enhancing Our Plumbing Apprenticeship Workforce 1. Our plumbing apprenticeship program shall be a cornerstone for developing the next generation of highly skilled tradespeople. By combining rigorous related technical instruction, (RTI), with supervised on-the-job training, (OJT), we shall ensure our apprentices meet all state requirements, including the necessary classroom hours and hands-on experience.

2. Why membership participation matters?

We are currently seeking company information from members who are looking to hire. Employer-sponsors play a critical role in this ecosystem, benefiting from, customized training tailor apprentice learning to align directly with your specific business needs, increased retention. Reduced recruitment costs, by partnering with our committee, you gain access to a pre-vetted pipeline of motivated candidates.

At last State League meeting I handed out cards with contact information for any member interested in registering their company with us, a simple D2 form that many members have already submitted. Its really simple and no obligation. It also has Public Works Certification opportunities if your company does or wants to start doing Government projects, like many schools, municipal buildings, libraries, etc...

3. How we will assist your company?

If your company is actively looking for apprentices, our committee will provide the following support; Job posting assistance. We will help promote your open positions across our professional networks and digital job boards to reach modern talent. Continuing Education Report — May 2026 We will be having one more class for HVAC renewal. If you need to get in, email me at rbarbarulo@verizon. net and I will put you in contact with Steve Rozniak. I will be sending letters out by July explaining all the rules of the upcoming CE classes and how each association can get reimbursed. If not followed, the association will not be reimbursed.

I need anyone who is going to teach for the association to send ther information to me by end of June. I will be getting the new syllabus as soon as possible, then forward to all instructors. Any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

Website & Social Media Report — May 4, 2026 New Member Interest: We currently have three (3) new sign-ups expressing interest in becoming members.

Convention Updates: Convention activity has been updated and reflected on the website.

Pipeline Archives: The Pipeline magazines for January, February, March, and April have been successfully uploaded and archives are accessible online.

Content & Participation Needs: We are actively seeking updated material and participation from local associations, including: meeting updates, event information, and industry news & contributions Please submit any new content so we can keep the website current and valuable for all members.

In the last 90 days, the website has been totally revamped! The website now has more pages that are available to the public; of course without affecting any by-laws. The more visibility we have to prospective members, the better. That being said, our site is still secure for all members. The past month, we received two new members from the site. We have added more user-friendly buttons, the Golf outing convention, and updated to be more convenient on mobile devices. A new chat line has also been rolled out with an open forum for job listings to help our fellow businesses, members find positions, etc. Check it out!

2026 Annual Convention Information Our Annual Convention will take place this year on Friday June 26th & Saturday June 27th at Resorts Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. We have arranged a great room rate which includes 3 full nights (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) for $517.00 + all applicable resort fees & taxes (you are not required to stay all 3 nights, the discounted rates are available for individual nights as well). You may make your reservations by calling the Reservations Department directly at 609-340-6760 to be connected with a reservation agent. In order to obtain our special group rate, you need to identify yourself as being with NJ State League of Master Plumbers and use group code: VNJMP26. These rooms will only be available until June 10th or until they are gone, whichever occurs first.

We must know who will be attending each event for an accurate headcount which will be complementary to all NJSLMP MEMBERS WHO ARE IN GOOD STANDING. If you are going to bring a guest or spouse, there will be an additional charge. Each person attending must be registered for the events and the cost per additional guest will be $250 PER DAY PER PERSON which includes access to our convention Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for Friday and Saturday.

ALL MEMBERS ATTENDING THE CONVENTION MUST BE REGISTERED PRIOR TO JUNE 10TH. YOU WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO ANY OF THE DINING EVENTS (BREAKFAST, LUNCH & DINNER) WITHOUT A CONFIRMED RSVP.
