PRESIDENT’S REPORT Happy April plumbers & professionals! I hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather & taking advantage of the preseason “local summer” at our beautiful shore. Be prepared for customers to take plunges on their outdoor projects like BBQs, pool heaters, and fireplaces as we approach the warmer months.

If you haven’t already stopped by; on the third Thursday of each month, 6pm-8:30 pm we host free educational classes for all members of the state league and their employees! Classes are only one night a month from September-May. This month we have the pleasure of Rob Dunn from Weil Mclain sponsoring our class on April 16th from 6:00 to 8:30 pm at the Bouer PHC office: 1100 US Highway 9, Howell 07731. As always, a great thanks to Our VPs Vincent Tinervia & Mark Bleiweis along with many of our members for their effort and continued support with making these classes happen.

An update in reference to the State approval by the Department of Labor for our Approved Apprenticeship Program.

Apprentice applications are being processed & approved. There will be more information posted to our website ASAP so check in to keep up to date on progress!

By the end of the year, we expect most towns to be implementing the updated electronic filing/inspection system Updates to come in on that front as we know more.

A reminder; the league has been continuing efforts towards license enforcement throughout the state. To do your part in combatting unlicensed contractors, please create a record and report the grievance to the Division of Consumer Affairs (DCA) as well as to the State League along with any available supporting photos/documentation. The board will file all completed complaints on behalf of members. You can find links & more information for DCA on our site.

First Year Vice President Report WOW what a month!!. It started for me in Tampa Florida with a invite from some of our Hall of Famer State League Past Presidents Doug loranger, Ron barburio, Steve rickershauser, Frank ceronka, with Frank dijohn and Robbie Narddi . 5 days of golf and a lot of laughs. I finally met past owner of EJA Eric Aoli. I had a great talk with him, Doug and Frank as I look to replace epic insurance with a new company. Eric took his retired time and spoke to other companies interested in taking over our business insurance needs. Thanks Eric!!. I also took the champs trophy from previous champ Frank aka Rigga-Mortice Ceronka . Although my rein was only good for a day, the true champ returned and took back the trophy! Great time with some Great guys all I met being a member of the state League. Than I was off to the state capitol in Trenton for National Plumbing Day with the one and only Mr Steve Rodzniak and 2nd VP Mr Vinny Tinervia from our state League along with a large crew from IAPMO a plumbers union and a few other nice gentlemen. Many handshakes with some of our legislators of our great state.

A couple of days later 2nd VP Vinny Tinervia and I took the ride to Atlantic City for the state trade show in Hard Rock. Met with some of our sponsors General and Atlantic plumbing supply, delon sales, viega, Moen, jaclo Kohler to name a few. We walked the floor had a great lunch a few laughs and back up the parkway we went Thanks vin for a great day. I took the ride up north to meet our friends of Northern Bergen Association and our 3rd VP ken bryer.

A nice talk, quick bite to eat and another association I met in my cap. And lastly I attended the state League meeting at GPS in Piscataway held by my Greater Newark association and our president Mr Jim Becker. I don't know about those attended but the food was amazing. A special thanks to Mr Bruce Tucker and Mr Justin Freedman for hosting us at there expense. A true sponsor of our state League. I'm working with others to find a marketing management company to help us improve our membership. April 15th I have a sit down with Association of Members Trust and get on there board to go over our relationship with them and the state League. And don't forget CONVENTION is on its way at the end of June. Don't miss out! It's always a good time. Once again if you need a VP to come to your meeting please let me know.

Second Year Vice President Report Hello Brother Plumbers, There are no investigators that work for the New Jersey State League of Master Plumbers. We are the investigators. If you find a company or an individual who is advising plumbing: • On their truck, take a picture of the truck with the wording and the license plate • In an advertisement cut it out or photocopy it, the whole ad please. If it is online, print it out, with the website link • Then take that information and complete the form from the board of master plumbers and send it in If you have time to make comments on Facebook or at a meeting about it, you have the time to fill out the complaint form. The complaint form is in this issue of the pipeline. Photocopy it and flood the board with all the unlicensed people you can find.

Fourth Year Vice President Report Hello everyone, We had an incredible trip to Spain last week. It was my first time there, and I have to say—the sights were absolutely amazing, the food was outstanding, and spending time with the brotherhood of our fellow plumbers made it even more special. It was truly a great experience all around.

After Spain, we had already planned Jaxson’s spring break trip to Fort Lauderdale, so we came straight down here to continue the family time.

Unfortunately, I was planning to be back in time for April’s meeting, but our flight was canceled last minute. We had checked before heading to the airport and everything showed on schedule, but upon arrival, we found out it had been canceled.

So, here I am—stuck on the beach in Fort Lauderdale. Could be worse!

“What If” By Dimitri Checkur I grew up in Colonia, New Jersey, next to a small creek. It flowed from a park upstream, passed in front of our split-level homes, and pressed on to the Raritan Bay. Much of New Jersey was built on Flood Plains, and our basement flooded often. After several disasters, Engineers designed and constructed beautiful 4’ high, cement ‘wall-banks’ to contain our mighty creek. They were topped with 4’ fencing to keep meddling kids from playing in the brook. On paper, ‘wall-banks’ would contain tiny NJ tributaries in times of a ‘Moderate to Heavy Precipitation’. On Paper…like an ‘As per Diagram’. Downstream, the concrete creek returned to it’s native, debris-ridden, red clay banks.

Our Stream had two names. On Maps it was the South Branch of the Rahway River; Newspapers called it Suckers Brook. Now, don’t confuse it with the other Suckers Brook which flows into the Lawrence Brook in New Brunswick. Two Suckers? Like I said, half of Jersey is a Flood Plain!

The Lenni Lenape, or early Realtor-Settlers, named our waterways for the countless first-time home buyers who would be blind-sided into buying these Sponges. The French could then sell us French Drains, and kids would get Sump-Pumps for Graduation.

Those early years taught me all about flood-level rims, low-bidders and Engineers. Every two years, a ‘Heavy Precipitation’ overflowed the banks. The News calls them ‘A 100-YEAR FLOOD!’ for Click-bait. These welcomed events would wash away all the old debris, and when waters subsided, youth were left with a brand-new array of garbage and trinkets to pick through. Upstream Folks on the ‘Other Side of Colonia’ had much better garbage than we did. I also learned about water damage and mold; and as a Plumber, I could use Suckers Brook to help teach lessons to Homeowners about flood-level rims, water hazards and reality.

It usually worked, but today I was having some difficulty. A tiny Reverse Osmosis Spout on the side of a Wompin’ $600 Kitchen Faucet had flooded under someone’s new Cabinet. The little fella had no keyhole, so I popped my head below the sink to see if it drained downstairs to a different flood-level rim. Nope. Someone had installed their in-line RO Air-Gap, in that fancy new Kitchen, BENEATH the bottom of the sink basin.

It barely had any pitch…just straight tubing to a Dishwasher tailpiece. What’s even crazier is that it was ‘As per Diagram’ and the faithful owner was dumbfounded. He stammered, ”How could something so small flood so much! They installed it exactly ‘As per Diagram’!” He frantically waved his paperwork (with no written instructions at all) in the air for proof.

I said, “Back up a minute. Let me see that paper.” I looked, and smiled. “First, I absolutely love your new Kitchen. I’ve seen Hundreds! Been a long time since I seen Cabinets this gorgeous.” He smiled too, and softened like water. I’ll give you the short version. I spoke RO rejection water and flow rates when Big Daddy is also running. I explained about traditional RO Tubing Diagrams, water damage (the seen), and Bacteria (the unseen). I finished up with, “The last thing we want is a Backup. We need that Air Gap because RO rejection Water makes horrible mixed-drinks.

If your Wife’s first Toast to her new Kitchen includes Hurling, you’ll be drinking Scotch straight from the bottle and using that ‘As per Diagram’ to wipe off her chin! Your Design Professional has some explaining to do.” I said, “Let me make a few calls, and I’ll circle back.” Boy did I hit the Flemington circle.

I called Tech. Support, who didn’t quite know what a Flood Rim was. I slowly explained how the RO Air Gap Faucet was created to ‘see’ when the drain was clogged and needed service, and asked why his particular RO System excluded it. Silence. I said, “I’m concerned that slimy biofilm and fungi might clog the drain. That same gook you clear in a Pop-up Tailpiece? If we can’t see it overflowing under a sink, it could cause a lot of water damage.” Silence. I said, “The dishwasher loop?? Are you old enough to remember Dishwasher Air Gaps above the counter flood rim by the faucet in the 70’s, so we knew when a clog had formed?” Silencio. I silently hung up, and texted a couple Plumbing Officials instead, asking IF we can require an air gap that works WHEN a ridiculous diagram is the only thing provided.

Well…they both sent back the same reply! “We don’t worry about ‘What Ifs.’” I was flabbergasted! I hadn’t asked a ‘What if’! I had asked an IF and WHEN. Why in Life, when I ask a Code question, I’m told we can’t ask a ‘What if’? And WHY is an ‘As per Diagram’ hunky dory just because a Manufacturer drew it? That Kitchen Drain is not a ‘What if’ Clog! It’s a strong ‘When’. Have you ever walked in the Food Store past all those Drain Cleaners? Someone asked Product Development, “WHEN that kitchen sinks clog, WHAT IF we sell lots of drain cleaners and maintenance products to panicked Homeowners. Why? BECAUSE it happens all the time! Or WHEN a Fool trusts an ‘As per Diagram’ over Modern Science and reasoning, ‘WHAT IF’ we start a Mold Remediation Company? We’ll be rich!”

I never did get my answer. We are told to trust any Manufacturer, even the one who wants it to look easy, so they hire an Engineer who will draw it that way. I think that’s exactly WHY we should ask ‘What if’. What if our Brothers and Sisters never questioned each other as our Codes and Materials evolved? What if our Trade has become so complacent that a flimsy diagram can silence Professional discussion altogether. A ‘What if’, by definition, is the speculation of an uncertain possibility or imaginary situation. As Imaginary as Kites, Penicillin, or the Wheel. They were ALL ‘What ifs’. 5000 Years ago, someone said, “Let’s get this civilization rolling! What if we took a smooth rod, centered it, and put a stone circle around it. We can call it the ‘Flemington Circle’ and sell one to everybody who has something heavy to move!” His buddy laughed, “The Flemington Circle? Crazy idea…ridiculous name. Nobody is going to buy that thing.” He replied, “Oh yeah? Then I’ll do it myself. I’ll make one this weekend and call it ‘The Wheel! I bet 5000 years from now, People will be buying four at a clip”.

Resolutions Committee Report — April 2, 2026 Resolution submittals for the 2026 NJSLMP Convention have been accepted, recorded and distributed to all local associations, officers and committee chairman of the New Jersey State League od Master Plumbers.

Each association should review these resolutions during their local meeting, after which your selected delegates, president, state league representative, and secretary can cast the votes at the 2026 NJSLMP convention.

To clarify, the individuals eligible to vote at the convention are each association's president, secretary, state league representative, five delegates*, any committee chairman who belongs to your association, as well as any life members or past presidents of the State League. *Delegates are selected by the local association from the local associations members specifically for attendance and voting at the NJSLMPA’s annual convention.

Ethics & Grievance Committee Report — April 2, 2026 There has been no activity for Ethics and Grievance for this month.

Apprenticeship Training Program Report - April 2026 The Apprenticeship Training Program Committee is pleased to report significant progress. Several members have already registered as employers via our simplified D2 agreement form. Our DOL representative, Nicole Field, will soon integrate these into our RAPIDS account. This will allow employers to begin the formal enrollment for new apprentices or transfer apprentices from other previouslyenrolled programs (covering years 1 through 4). Currently at 7 new students.

New apprentices will then be registered by us into the Department of Labor, (DOL), system and receive the registration number. This is another application we'll assist employers with.

The committee has set the annual tuition at $750 per apprentice. To support our members, we are actively assisting with scholarship and grant applications to offset these costs. While non-league members are welcome to participate at the standard rate, they will be given the opportunity to join the League to access further benefits.

We are currently evaluating several locations for in-person classroom training to complement our hybrid online curriculum. Our roster of instructors continues to grow, and we are excited to incorporate manufacturer-specific certification classes into the program.

Finally, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the committee, our volunteer instructors, the proactive members enrolling their apprentices and the League officers for their ongoing support in coordinating the phone calls they've received about the program and directing these calls to the committee.

Annual Inspection. Chimneys, fireplaces, and vents shall be inspected at least once a year in accordance with the requirements of section 15.2.

Damaged or Deteriorated Liners. If the flue liner in a chimney has softened, cracked, or otherwise deteriorated so that it no longer has the continued ability to contain the products of combustion (i.e., heat, moisture, creosote, NFPA 211: 14.9* and flue gases), the liner shall either be removed and replaced, repaired, or relined with a listed liner system or other approved material that will resist corrosion, softening, or cracking from flue gases at temperatures appropriate to the class of chimney service.

Size. The chimney or vent shall be resized as necessary to control flue gas condensation in the interior of the NFPA M1801.3.1 chimney or vent and to provide the appliance, or appliances served, with the required draft. For the venting of

oil-fired appliances to masonry chimneys, the resizing shall be done in accordance with NPFA 31.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE We received 2 inquiries from plumbers through the website, which have been forwarded to the local associations. Additionally, we still have window stickers (18” x 18”) available for all plumbing supply houses & stickers for members. It’s crucial that all secretaries and every local association actively participate in supporting membership growth.

Complaint Process

As a unit of the Division of Consumer Affairs, the State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers (Board), takes its responsibility seriously. A copy of the complaint will be forwarded to the licensee with a cover letter from the Board requiring a detailed written response to the allegations in the complaint. Once that response has been received, it will be reviewed and disposition may be recommended. If the Board needs additional information, the licensee may be required to appear to answer questions concerning the matter.

Please be advised that any information you supply on the complaint form may be subject to public disclosure. If an investigation into the matter is conducted, the information is subject to public disclosure only after the completion of the investigation. You are also advised that the completed complaint form is a “government record,” which the Board may be obligated to provide to anyone making a request pursuant to the Open Public Records Act (OPRA).

The disposition of the matter may take several months. Please understand that the Board can only take formal action if it finds sufficient basis that the licensee violated State laws or regulations. If the Board determines that formal action is required, the matter is referred to the office of the Attorney General. In that case, formal charges may be filed against the licensee and the licensee will be given an opportunity to defend himself or herself. This process can take a considerable period of time.

If the complaint involves a dispute over fees, please be advised that the Board has limited jurisdiction over fees charged by professionals. If the Board determines that there is insufficient basis to pursue disciplinary action, but determines that the matter involves a fee dispute, your complaint may be referred to the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Unit of the Division of Consumer Affairs. The ADR is a free mediation service that can be helpful in resolving such matters.

Until a final determination has been made, the Board is not permitted to disclose information regarding the matter. You will be notified in writing when a final determination has been made.

2026 Annual Convention Information Our Annual Convention will take place this year on Friday June 26th & Saturday June 27th at Resorts Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. We have arranged a great room rate which includes 3 full nights (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) for $517.00 + all applicable resort fees & taxes (you are not required to stay all 3 nights, the discounted rates are available for individual nights as well). You may make your reservations by calling the Reservations Department directly at 609-340-6760 to be connected with a reservation agent. In order to obtain our special group rate, you need to identify yourself as being with NJ State League of Master Plumbers and use group code: VNJMP26. These rooms will only be available until June 10th or until they are gone, whichever occurs first.

We must know who will be attending each event for an accurate headcount which will be complementary to all NJSLMP MEMBERS WHO ARE IN GOOD STANDING. If you are going to bring a guest or spouse, there will be an additional charge. Each person attending must be registered for the events and the cost per additional guest will be $250 PER DAY PER PERSON which includes access to our convention Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for Friday and Saturday.

ALL MEMBERS ATTENDING THE CONVENTION MUST BE REGISTERED PRIOR TO JUNE 10TH. YOU WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO ANY OF THE DINING EVENTS (BREAKFAST, LUNCH & DINNER) WITHOUT A CONFIRMED RSVP.
