The pavilions cascade back with the slope of the mountain, revealing panoramic views of the valley from each square. The landscape and geology is framed strategically from the interior, giving the residences a view of Ajax Peak to the Southeast and the red geologic outcroppings across the valley.

132 West 14th Street Facade
As a facade renovation for an existing 7 story building on 14th Street in New York City, the architectural intervention is an operation of reskinning and maintaining the crucial structural bones behind this cosmetic makeover. The structural pier walls at the sides remained, while new steel was placed midspan between them. The client asked for a glassy facade and over the course of three weeks we arrived at a custom profiled aluminum mullion cap. The initial designs began with exploring curtain wall languages by diversifying textures of transparency (2) Other options included using faceted glazing (3) and a Miesian frame (1.) Over the course of weeks, the grid scheme became the favored. Articulation on the grid became a the challenge in differentiating itself from the rest of the buildings being constructed in New York. All knowingly, as profiled facades become increasingly popular in the 2020’s, we set out to design a profile that would make the building stand apart from the rest on 14th Street. Eventually, ending on a gold-coated aluminum frame with a doubly curved corner piece.

The scalloped facade on the south runs adjacent to the waterfront of the new district, The Yards in Washington D.C. The sweeping geometry gestures of a hydrological theme, as the historical H-shaped building mass is eroded away. The scallops create cascading terraces with greenspaces for the offices above.
Working with a small group of 3 others as the Design Architects our scope included the facade shell, ground floor lobby and retail, penthouse, overall interior finishes, and worked with a larger coordination team of over 30 people to incorporate lighting, structural, MEP, landscape, civil, and signage aspects to the project.

Counterpoint
Using the musical concept of Counterpoint as the generator for this museum addition, the New Contemporary Art Wing of Lima was designed with the historical context of the existing exposition palace in mind. By projecting facade lines from the existing to create a system of monolithic light wells, we wanted the project to embody a sense of timelessness. A North-South crevasse perpendicular to the light wells allows for vertical mobility, underground train connections, and a sunken sculpture garden that hosts contemporary art alongside a shaded greenspace. As pedestrians walk through the plaza, they would be able to see into the gallery spaces from above and below. In this way, the light wells and sunken plaza democratize the art collection in making contemporary art more accessible to the public realm. Steven Shimamoto 20

Liquid Forms is a concrete tile that is constructe in cross section of two circles on one end, and flat rectangle on the other. By using simple geometry to create a networked surface between two ends, a complex form is able to be tiled on all sides. The tiles can be arranged in a number of combinations. While designing the tile, an asymetric logic was found to make versatile effects within a field.

The tile’s aspect ratio of 100mm x 500mm allows for it to combine with the varied combinations of a brick. A rectangular ratio would allow for the pattern variations of a stacked, mirrored, offset of ashler combinations.

Jumeriah District As a two phased competition for Dubai’s new Jumeriah District, the proposal seeks to create densities of towers alongside mixed-use commercial and urban greenspace corridors. The site is linked by series of interlinked transit types. Electric buses, overhead tramways, bike, and train paths connect to create a sustainable urban village for the new district. Towers are placed strategically to create density in moments of varying intensity.
