Welcome! Welcome!

recurring reasons why people attend live events: it’s a time to restore the spirit and refresh the soul, a time of discovery, a time to revisit a beloved performance, it’s for the occasion itself, and it’s for a sense of belonging. We certainly hope you find your place of belonging at the Clemens Center.

Many thanks to M&T Bank for sponsoring the Broadway Series once again, and to our numerous business sponsors and individual donors as we embark on the 99th year of the theatre. By working together, we make memories that last a lifetime!

JASON BISHOP / Magician, Illusionist

JASON BISHOP / Magician, Illusionist

Star of two of his own shows on Broadway, Jason Bishop - “Straight Up Magic” and “Believe in Magic” at the New Victory Theater on NYC’s famed 42nd street. Bishop has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning, NBC’s Today Show, CW Network’s Masters of Illusion, Canada’s popular “Breakfast Television Toronto” and twice on France’s legendary “Le Plus Grand Cabaret Du Monde". He was a cover story and feature article for Southwest Airlines in flight magazine and The New York Times said “How did he do that?” and “There’s real elegance and even wit in the precision of his gestures, the agility of each finger.” Growing up throughout Pennsylvania Jason began studying magic at 15 years old, late compared to most magicians. His passion led to majoring in Theater at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. Bishop left school after only two years to accept the host position of a show touring college campuses. Bookings for his magic show in the Pocono and Catskill mountains immediately followed. A few years later Jason would again perform at colleges and universities but this time with his magic and illusion show. Soon after his success with colleges Jason became a featured entertainer on cruise ships, music festivals and countless performing arts centers throughout the United States as well as several other countries. Some of Jason Bishop’s awards and citations include the key to the city of Lake Charles Louisiana, awarded the honor of a “Kentucky Colonel”, both magic’s prestigious “Jack Gwynne Award for Excellence in Presentation” and the “Milbourne Christopher Illusionist Award”, as well as “Performing Artist of the Year” by the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities. He is also the only illusionist to ever have not one but two productions in New York City at the acclaimed New Victory Theater.

KIM HESS / Featured Assistant

Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, Hess is Jason’s Featured Assistant. Kim is an indispensable member of the show. Whether she is assisting audience members, vanishing or levitating high above the stage Kim is crucial to the show’s success. At four years old Kim had an experience that changed her life forever.

Taking the suggestion of a family member; Kim’s mother enrolled her in a local baton twirling production unit. Kim stayed with that group for over nineteen years. In her time with the unit she won well over one hundred awards, among them were first place trophies from the National/ World Baton Conference held at Notre Dame University. Hess is a graduate of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in business. Kim has traveled to all but one state; North Dakota and has been to over 40 countries and 6 continents as a performer. She feels incredibly blessed to be able to see the world through performing. Kim would like to acknowledge her late baton instructor; Joanne Herb, who was a tremendously graceful twirler and inspiration. She would also like to thank her Mom for her endless support.

GIZMO

/ “The Star”

GIZMO / “The Star”

Hailing from Berks county PA and now living in Blandon, PA, Gizmo made his live theater debut at just nine weeks old. Giz has 4 brothers and sisters his exact age. Gizmo has been the most popular member of the show since he joined. His first few months in the show he simply ran onstage to Jason and garnered amazing applause through that simple action. Later Gizmo approached the producers to have his own feature spot, they agreed and the rest is history. Gizmo enjoys long walks on the beach and everywhere else for that matter. He loves chicken and ice-cream, licking anyone within reach and barking at horses and cows. Some of Gizmo’s nicknames are Giz, Dog Number 97 and Monkey. Gizmo is excited to sniff the stage today and pee anywhere he shouldn’t.

A WORD FROM JASON BISHOP

A WORD FROM JASON BISHOP

Magic has been tremendously visible online and on television over the last decade. However, the current trend is to shy away from large magic and illusion in favor of mostly close up magic. This, coupled with a decrease in live magic performances makes me incredibly proud that our show is a return to large scale theatrical magic. Like the big illusion shows of the past that inspired me as a young performer, our show features multiple disciplines of magic. Yes I’ll perform close-up sleight of hand, but there is also stage card manipulation and of course lots of large illusions. It’s among the most humbling and greatest pleasures of my life to be able to share a large scale illusion show with an amazing audience in a theater; the way stage magic was meant to be experienced.

ABOUT THE SHOW

ABOUT THE SHOW

Each performance of Jason Bishop’s is the culmination of a life in magic thus far. From close-up magic projected onto large screens to award winning sleight of hand and exclusive grand illusions, a diverse set of talent and skill permeates the show. Magic like any art form builds upon previous achievements of the artist and the genre. Bishop’s show is exactly this. In it magic is created from everything. An iPhone, an old wooden trunk or a never before seen illusion all hold secrets and create magic. The show combines age old conjuring skills, modern technology, exclusive illusions and a sharp wit, to forge what we feel is the most dynamic illusion/magic show today.

SHARP MINDS. SUPERIOR CONSTRUCTION. SINCE 1949

In 2017, the John G. Ullman & Associates Foundation, Inc. provided underwriting for the Center’s first-ever sensory-friendly dance performance for children on the autism spectrum. The success of that event, combined with the Foundation’s mission to fund educational programs in the local area, inspired the creation of the Family Connex Series. Since then, nearly 7,200 kids and caregivers have been served.

The carefully-curated programs in the Series help connect families to the Center by attending together, and promote family conversation, critical thinking, and the simple enjoyment of the live performing arts. The Foundation’s generous contribution allows the Clemens Center to keep ticket prices affordable. Join us on the following dates for family fun!

The Clemens Center is proud to be a partner with area educators in providing arts experiences that en rich the lives of young people. Each season, we strive to present a variety of productions that complement the school curriculum and enhance learning, as only the arts can do. Over the years, our audience has grown to include, not only regional public and private schools, but also many home -schools, pre-schools and individual families.

These programs are made possible, in part, through a contribution from the Tripp Foundation to the Clemens Center’s Endowment Fund in memory of Mary Tripp Marks and her concern for the cultural enrichment of children.

Since 1979, the Mary Tripp Marks School -Time Series has touched the lives of over half a million young people with curriculum-related programs. For many of them, these daytime performances represent their first introduction to the Clemens Center and to the magic of live theatre.

The 2024-25 Series Includes: Frindle

Goodnight Moon & The Runaway Bunny

The Gruffalo’s Child

A Year With Frog and Toad

Hero: The Boy From Troy

Moon Mouse: A Space Odyssey

Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes: The Story of Babar the Elephant

Our Planet Live

Special Attraction for grades 9+

The Express: The Ernie Davis Story

A FREE film presentation in honor of Ernie Davis Day

We believe that exposure to live theatre can ignite a child’s imagination in a unique way, opening the door to a greater understanding of the world and a lifelong love of the arts.
