Full-time law professors are closely involved as they supervise and mentor the students enrolled in each program. Courses are designed to enhance classroom-based learning and give students opportunities to gain valuable, real-world experience.

DISTINGUISH YOURSELF WITH A CERTIFICATE OF CONCENTRAT INTERNATIONAL LAW • International Law is designed for students who want to advance their studies in either private or public international law.

• Students who have completed at least 30 but no more than 45 credit hours may apply for the Certificate of Concentration in International Law.

TION. ENVIRONMENTAL LAW • At the Institute for Biodiversity Law and Policy, students receive personalized attention and mentoring from environmental law faculty.

• First-year law students have unique opportunities to participate in the Ecosystem Banking Workshop, and by taking Research and Writing II/ Environmental Law, a special section covering skills with an emphasis on real-world issues.

• Students have access to distinguished environmental professionals who visit campus to present as part of the Edward and Bonnie Foreman Biodiversity Lecture Series, the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition, and other environmental events.

• Students may participate in prestigious national environmental law moot court and negotiation competitions.

SOCIAL JUSTICE ADVOCACY • Law school students who pursue a Social Justice Advocacy Certificate of Concentration share a unique passion for equality in society and a drive to stand up for those who need advocacy the most.

• Stetson Law leverages its strong Advocacy core to prepare students to serve in the causes that matter to them.

• Deliberate Coursework: Students choose elective courses with a career path in mind.

• One-on-one Mentoring: Each student works closely with a faculty mentor who has experience in the field of Social Justice Advocacy.

• Experiential Learning Opportunities: The Constitutional Law and the Civil Rights Movement Travel Course takes students to six cities associated with the Civil Rights Movement, the legal history of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

During the 2017–18 academic year, Stetson Law students donated 28,174 hours of pro bono service to more than 400 organizations.

Stetson’s commitment to community service includes a 60-hour pro bono requirement for all students to enhance their law school experience.

Last year, Stetson law students provided more than 20,500 hours of non-legal community service and more than 7,650 hours of legal pro bono service to local organizations.

As a first-year student, you can adapt quickly to the academic demands of law school through the Academic Success Program, which offers workshops in time management, note-taking strategies, critical thinking skills, and exam preparation.

Stetson’s Office of Bar Preparation Services assists students with every aspect of bar admission. Full-time staff attorneys provide individual counseling on bar preparation.

Students benefit from a personalized study plan and a full simulated exam, with sample answers reviewed by bar preparation staff.

SPECIALIZE YOUR COURSEWORK A SECOND GRADUATE DEGREE. if enrolled part-time).

Honors Program students participate in an Honors Colloquium with several faculty members and take a special Honors Jurisprudence Seminar.

CERTIFICATES OF CONCENTRATION At Stetson Law, students can focus their studies through our elective curriculum and earn a Certificate of Concentration along with their J.D. degree.

J.D./LL.M. IN ADVOCACY This program allows you to apply up to 12 hours of prescribed J.D. courses toward the 24-credit LL.M. degree, so you’ll only need to take 12 more hours (or one fulltime semester) to finish the LL.M. after earning your J.D. Since the LL.M. courses are also offered online, you may finish the program wherever you choose to practice.

J.D./M.B.A. The College of Law and Stetson’s AACSBaccredited School of Business Administration offer an accelerated course of study leading to J.D. and M.B.A. degrees to broaden career opportunities in law and business.

INTERNATIONAL DUAL DEGREES Select students who are permitted to spend a full academic year in Stetson’s foreign exchange programs in England, France, or Spain, may earn a second degree from our partner institutions upon successful completion of a year of academic work.

Students may earn an LL.M. in one of seven concentrations from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England; a Master of International Economic Law from Université Toulouse 1–

Capitole in Toulouse, France; or a Master of European Business Law from the Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid, Spain.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY EXCHANGE After the first year, a few select students interested in specializing in intellectual property law may participate in a semester exchange program with the University of New Hampshire School of Law’s Franklin Pierce Center for Intellectual Property.

ONLINE LL.M. IN ELDER LAW Stetson’s LL.M. in Elder Law is a three-semester, 24-credit program that covers issues ranging from estate and longterm care planning for the elderly to disability law and guardianships.

Applicants for Stetson’s LL.M. programs must have received their first law degree at a law school accredited by the ABA or approved by the appropriate authority in their country.

Cayman Islands Fall Intersession Program: Travel to George Town in the Cayman Islands between the fall and spring semesters for a two-week program housed at Truman Bodden Law School.

Spring Break in Cuba: Stetson’s Cuban Legal System and Society course culminates in a fiveday spring break program in Cuba.

Spring Break in Ireland: Students get a comparative perspective on U.S., EU, and Irish law that culminates in a seven-day trip to Belfast and Dublin to explore historical, political, and cultural sites.

Foreign Exchange Programs: Stetson has formal agreements with the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England; University of Granada in Spain; Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia; University College Dublin, Ireland; Université Toulouse 1 – Capitole in France; and Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid, Spain, for students to attend law school for up to one year at one of these institutions.

International Dual-Degrees: Stetson exchange students also may pursue dual degrees from the Université Toulouse 1 – Capitole in Toulouse, France (J.D./MINTEC – master’s in international economic law); Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid, Spain (J.D./M.E.B.L. in European Business Law); University of East Anglia in Norwich, England (J.D./LL.M.); University of Granada, Spain (J.D./Master of Legal Practice in Granada).

Graduate Degrees: Earn a Master of Jurisprudence in International and Comparative Business Law. The M.J. is a two semester, 24-credit hour program for non-lawyers located on our Gulfport campus. The campus features classrooms and courtrooms equipped with sophisticated audio-visual technology. Stetson’s three-story law library attracts legal scholars from around the world with its comprehensive digital and print collections. The library is the heart of student research and engagement, providing a quiet place to study, bar preparation, research and technology support, and wellness activities to encourage a balanced law school life.

Stetson’s Tampa Law Center, located at the entrance to downtown Tampa along the Hillsborough River, shares its Wm. Reece Smith Jr. Courtroom and satellite law library with Florida’s Second District Court of Appeals.

Stetson’s 21-acre, palm-lined campus in Gulfport is home to seven courtrooms. Resources on campus prepare students for the practice. The beautiful pool and gym and other amenities remind students to enjoy their coastal paradise surroundings.

The Dolly & Homer Hand Law Library is home to 34 study rooms, 135 study carrels and three classrooms where seminar and skills-based courses are held. The library also houses the Department of Academic Success and Bar Preparation Services, as well as the Office of Information Technology.

ENTERING STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS Stetson Law awards multi-year scholarships to selected entering students. All admitted students are considered for scholarships; no special application is required. Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, a range of other personal accomplishments and experiences, and the ability to further the mission of the College of Law. Applicants who wish for their unique circumstances and backgrounds to be considered may include an addendum with their application. Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis. For Fall 2018, 80.99 percent of incoming students received a scholarship ranging from partial to full tuition. Detailed information about the selection process, scholarship retention data, and scholarships from Stetson and outside sources can be found at stetson.edu/lawfinaid.

ASSISTANCE FOR CONTINUING STUDENTS Several programs provide financial assistance to students after they enroll, including a number of partial-tuition scholarships based on first-year academic performance, leadership, public service and need. Scholarships to recognize public service are also available through endowed and university funds. Stetson offers a full-tuition scholarship for a student entering his or her final year with a record of public service who plans to continue that path for three years after graduation.

Stetson participates in the Veterans Affairs Yellow Ribbon Program, offering tuition assistance to student veterans or eligible dependents.

Teaching assistantships and faculty research assistantships are available on a competitive basis to upper-level students who have a strong academic record and an interest in scholarly research and writing. Teaching assistants support faculty teaching (but do not teach courses themselves), and research assistants support professors with their scholarly publications and other projects.

FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID Students seeking any type of federal financial aid must annually submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available on October 1 of each year and can be completed online at www.fafsa. ed.gov. The information on the FAFSA is transmitted electronically to the schools you list on the application.

Stetson Law’s school code is E00342.

Student loans are processed through the federal Direct Loan Program. The lender is the U.S. Department of Education, though the entity you interact with (your loan servicer) can be a private business. Student borrowers are not required to begin making payments until after they graduate or leave school. The Direct Loan Program offers Stafford Unsubsidized Loans (fixed rate, currently 6.6%) and Graduate Plus Loans (fixed rate, currently 7.6%) to graduate or professional students. Interest rates are subject to change. The Graduate Plus Loan will require a credit check. To be considered creditworthy, students must have non-delinquent credit or obtain a co-endorser. Students are encouraged to check their credit report on an annual basis.
