Steppingstone envisions a world where all students can actualize the life-transforming benefits of a college degree.
2 The Steppingstone Foundation
Steppingstone envisions a more just and equitable world where all students can actualize the life-transforming benefits of a college degree.
From the President & CEO and Board Chair
At Steppingstone, Every Adult Cares Dear Friends, We are so pleased to celebrate Steppingstone’s impact and your involvement over the 2025–2026 year. There are many ways Steppingstone measures success over time. High rates of college enrollment and graduation tell us we are achieving meaningful results: that students from under-resourced communities are prepared to access, navigate, and graduate from college. Growing corporate partnerships, professional opportunities, and career readiness trainings tell us Scholars are building strong foundations for their careers. The numbers you will see are still only part of the story. At the end of each summer, we survey the youngest Scholars about their Steppingstone experience in the moment. How does it feel to participate in this program as a rising fifth, sixth, or seventh grader at the beginning of a long journey to college? How does it feel to put in full school days for several weeks over the summer (and Saturdays during the school year, too)? The responses are affirming. “Steppingstone teaches me a lot of new things. It has helped me think about my future, and all the teachers give me a lot of support. They actually listen to me, and they are very kind… This is why I am very happy at Steppingstone.” “I think this program really changed how I look at school.” “I'm happy because I have learned more about myself and what I'm capable of doing, and have made more room to learn and grow into someone even better.” “Every adult cares about us.” This feedback is perhaps the deepest indicator that Steppingstone is carrying out its mission well. Looking at each name on the following pages, it strikes us that from staff and Alumni to schools and businesses, from first-time donors to visionaries who have supported Steppingstone for more than 30 years… Every adult cares. Your dedication makes our impact possible. We could not do this work without you.

4 Steppingstone
Steppingstone prepares students from underresourced communities to access, navigate, and graduate from college. In Boston, we provide academic, socialemotional, and college readiness programming from as early as fifth grade and continuing through college graduation. Nationally, we connect the people, practices, and innovations essential for eliminating barriers to college and career success.
Steppingstone’s Impact At Steppingstone, we invest in futures. We work to eliminate barriers in education to positively impact Scholars, their families, and our larger community.
Since Our Founding in 1990: With more than 35 years of experience, our results are proven. Steppingstone provides Scholars with an environment that pairs high expectations with meaningful support. While Scholars’ accomplishments are diverse, they all share a love of learning, a commitment to education, and the knowledge that they can rise to any challenge with confidence in their own abilities to succeed.

Steppingstone helps Scholars gain admission to schools that lead to college. Placement schools are the independent and public schools where Scholars enroll after they complete the Academy division of the Steppingstone Scholars Program. Each of these schools shares a commitment to helping Scholars thrive. They all maintain high rates of graduation and college enrollment, and those that charge tuition offer financial aid to Scholars and families based on need.
