The State of Pro Deo Youth Center 2019-2020 Annual Report

From the Executive Director... Dear friends, “Be yourself always–there’s no one better.” It’s words like these that inspire me to enthusiastically pursue Pro Deo’s core mission. It’s words like these that our teens need to hear–repeatedly. Making real lasting connections with teens in need is how we do business. Every time I’m at the teen center, I see caring adults interacting with the teens in a positive, supportive manner. It warms my heart to see volunteers, community and business leaders who give so freely of their time, talent and resources to make our teen center the best it can be. No donation of time or resources is taken for granted. Pro Deo loves our community! Pro Deo logged approximately 1,200 on-site teen visits during 2019-20, and more than 50 “sidewalk” chats during the switch to virtual programming in April and May. There were 760 meals served on Friday nights and during the summer program. I am

so proud of the impact this has had on meeting the needs of underserved teens. Beyond the usual time, talent and treasure approach of stewardship, this COVID-19 crisis season forced so many of us to seriously review what is truly important in our life together as families and communities. Thank you for making 2019-20 a remarkable year for keeping teens safe, engaged, loved and learning beyond the bell. I’m honored to represent this small non-profit making a huge difference in the lives of teens and their families. I’m honored to work with a staff and a board of directors who are dedicated to Lee’s Summit’s only after-school free teen program for high school students.

It is a real joy for us to help ignite the imaginations of the Pro Deo youth by introducing teens to our nationally known clients via Zoom. Everything we do is about sparking creativity, curiosity, and passion.
