The generosity of our parents, alumni, grandparents, parents of alumni, past and current faculty and staff, and friends of the school has made an undeniable impact on our students and on advancing Gaynor’s mission.
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made a gift in honor of our cofounder, Yvette Siegel-Herzog. Your generous contributions in her memory not only celebrate her incredible spirit but also ensure that her vision for enriching the educational experiences of our students continues to thrive. Yvette was deeply committed to fostering an environment where every child could reach their full potential, and your support allows us to carry forward her legacy. Together, we are creating opportunities for our students to receive the individualized education Yvette so passionately championed, reinforcing the values she held dear. Message from the Board Chair
As we embark on the 2025-2026 school year, I find myself filled with gratitude as I reflect on the progress and impact of the past year. The commitment of our community inspired me, reinforcing our shared goal to help every student at Stephen Gaynor School reach their fullest potential, both in the classroom and beyond.
Gaynor’s dedicated Parents’ Association (PA) carried on cherished traditions such as Book Fair, Breakfast My Way, and Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week, each of which strengthens our community spirit and supports our mission. Thank you to all PA volunteers and families whose creativity and commitment make these traditions possible. These gatherings are not only events that support us in myriad ways, but they also connect us as a community and remind us that when we come together, our students benefit most. I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation for Sam Regan, who served as PA president for two successful years. Her vision and commitment to giving back to Gaynor have been truly inspiring. Sam consistently finds creative ways to show gratitude to our community, making everyone feel valued and appreciated.
I would also like to extend my profound gratitude to Beth Pristaw for her outstanding years of service as the Chair of the Annual Fund (and being my friend). Her leadership and dedication have been instrumental in rallying parents around our fundraising efforts. Beth’s ability to foster strong connections within our community and communicate the importance of supporting the Annual Fund has created lasting impact for our students. We truly appreciate her work and the positive influence she has brought to Stephen Gaynor School.

INVESTING IN STUDENTS FIRST
+ With a 3:1 student-to-faculty ratio, nearly all resources go directly to education. In 2024–25, Gaynor’s operating budget of over $30 million focused on expert faculty, instructional materials, technology, and financial aid.
FACULTY: OUR GREATEST RESOURCE
+ Approximately 80% of expenses support faculty and staff—expert teachers, specialists, and administrators who unlock every child’s potential. Robust professional development and retention efforts ensure students learn from the very best.
REDUCING RELIANCE ON TUITION
+ The school’s expenses continue to exceed net tuition income. Growing philanthropy is critical to lessen reliance on tuition and keep Gaynor accessible.
PHILANTHROPY POWERS THE FUTURE

Yvette Siegel-Herzog’s belief in every child’s potential laid the foundation for what Stephen Gaynor School is today. More than sixty years ago, she and Miriam Michael envisioned a place where children who learn differently would not be defined by their challenges but empowered by their strengths. That vision continues to guide Gaynor’s mission and inspire our community.
Yvette’s warmth, wisdom, and unwavering commitment shaped the spirit of Gaynor, a place where expert teaching meets compassion and every child is seen, known, and celebrated. Her legacy lives on in every classroom, every moment of discovery, and every student who gains the confidence to say, “I can.”
