As we look forward to this, our 17th Production Sale, we also look back to our 4 decades of Shadybrook Farm Shorthorn history, and in particular this year, to the enormous contribution the Picture Perfect cow family has made to our program.

The two following pages provide a brief recounting of that history.

I would like to thank our crew for the hard work and dedication they put in on a daily basis at Shadybrook – Lloyd Wright, our outstanding farm manager, who this year celebrates 35 years with Shadybrook; Kevin Dempsey, our able herdsman 25 years; Josh Page and Kim Glover.

GENERAL SALE INFORMATION REGISTRATION AND TRANSFER All animals sell with completed pedigrees and will be transferred to the buyer. Be sure to provide accurate transfer information to the sale clerk at settlement. Both the ASA & CSA registration numbers are included in this catalog. For Canadian buyers, included in the footnote you will find the percentages for the CSA Appendix registry herd book. Any pending CSA registration numbers & percentages will be available sale day. BREEDING GUARANTEE All cattle will sell under the Standard Breeding guarantee as endorsed by the American Shorthorn Association and the Canadian Shorthorn Association.

EXCHANGE RATE The US dollar is worth approximately

GENERAL SALE INFORMATION PERFORMANCE DATA The Expected Progeny Differences (EPD’s) represented in this catalog are generated through the American Shorthorn Associations Digital Beef program and reflect the latest run as of July 27, 2018. Definitions for the traits listed in this catalog are: Calving Ease Direct (CED) The most important EPD in sire selection for use on heifers. This value is expressed as a percent of unassisted births; the more positive a number is the more desirable.

British Maternal Index ($BMI) This multi-trait selection index attempts to measure a bull’s potential profitability when complimenting the British cow base (Angus, Red Angus, Hereford, etc.). Shorthorn females can likewise be gauged at adding value to British or British Composite bulls of other breeds. A balance of growth and carcass traits is desired with a strong maternal component aimed at optimum reproductive efficiency and cow longevity.

Birth Weight (BW) An indicator of birth weight and calving ease.

Larger BW EPDs typically, but not always indicate more calving difficulty.

OTHER IMPORTANT SALE INFORMATION

Weaning Weight (WW) Weaning weight measures the differences in weight of calves at weaning and is also reported in pounds. A higher WW EPD indicates an expected higher weaning weight.

HS Picture Perfect 549 ET was purchased by Shadybrook Farm at the 1988 Hoyt & Sons Central Division Dispersal Sale, Blair, Nebraska. Her sire was Millbrook Marc IV X, her dam was the donor dam, Rexlaine Lassie Dawn 8117. Picture Perfect 549 produced 58 total progeny in her life time. She was productive for seventeen years and was flushed for the last time at 15 years of age. Among her many sons & daughters were two ET sisters, SBF Picture Perfect 107B ET & SBF Picture Perfect 108B ET that were blood typed to be identical twins.

Both SBF Picture Perfect 107B ET & SBF Picture Perfect 108B ET entered the donor herd at Shadybrook where they produced a total of 30 progeny over their life time.

Among the daughters produced by Perfect 107B ET was the future donor dam, Shadybrook Picture 201M ET, sired by CF Trump X. 201M produced a total 31 progeny including two more significant donors, Shadybrook Perfect 4R, sired by Deer Trail Buckshot 5023 and the 2011 National Champion Female, Shadybrook Perfect Millie 23X ET, sired by Shadybrook Milenium.
