It’s been a good show season for TMP and for our customers. We have been building our program in both quantity and quality and the results are showing at the backdrops and with the banners. Congratulations to Colson Glueck and Abigail Valdez for winning their respective classes at the Simbrah-Simmental Superbowl. Colson also won the reserve heifer calf honor at the Houston Junior Show. Also a big shoutout to our other junior customers, Paisley Lightfoot, Madison Morgan, Johnathan Woerndel and Jacob Merritt, who have been competitive this spring with their TMP bred heifers. We have added an upcoming sire to our lineup and he took the reserve intermediate championship in Houston at the International Show. He is Smith Far More 215H—a product of Smith Nu Approach and 215F from the Juliet Cow Family. We also want to thank our buyers from Synergy: Woerndel Family, Glueck Farms, Ellsworth Cattle and Anthony Lopez.

We purchased HR Red Label a few years ago and we are so pleased with our decision. His calves have continually impressed us and each crop makes us glad we are using him. In fact , he is the best bull we have used to date. We have a number of daughters now working in our herd. Red Label is a three-quarter bull sired by LMC Red Alert and out of a Sand Ranch Hand daughter. He’s homozygous polled and ranks in the top 15% of the breed for API. Check out his progeny pictured here. We are labeling them good! Thank you to our Synergy buyers: Mark Grabs, Giana Tortorice, Braden Stork, Mhire Cattle, Bobby Bryan, Lost Pines Ranch, Gary Turner, Cameron Young and Gary Turner. Call us as we would love to discuss his breeding power and show you his progeny.

Piggytail Gang members (l to r) Codie Hill, Sawyer Mau, Pebbles Whitaker and Paisley Lightfoot.
The Piggytail Gang By Martha Hollida Garrett If you’ve been to a junior Simbrah show, then you’ve seen them. In fact, they have probably walked up to you and tried to sell you a handmade bracelet or two. They are the Piggytail Gang and while they may be young, they are out to make a difference in this world. The Piggytail Gang consists of Sawyer Mau, Pebbles Whitaker, Codie Hill and Paisley Lightfoot, all junior Simbrah exhibitors. The first three are younger children in their families, while Lightfoot is the oldest in her family. Their story started when Sawyer, Pebbles and Codie were part of the novice division at the Texas Simmental/Simbrah Futurity. Tonya PAGE 16
Spring, 2021 • SIMBRAH World
Hill, mom to Codie, called them the Piggytail Gang and then novice leader, Josh Willey made the name stick. The three girls were always together and always wearing their piggytails at the time. Fast forward a few years and those three were old enough to show and so was Paisley. The gang quickly expanded to four little girls, showing their cattle, spending time together and maybe agitating their siblings and others. They’ve become sisters to each other because of the bond they share and they like ganging up on their siblings at shows. They’re the sweethearts of the barn in many ways and now are ages 11-12. From that beginning, it’s been hard
The Piggytail Gang bracelets. This girls started making these at shows for fun and then it became an avenue for helping others.
to find them apart at most shows, except when their heifer duties take precedence. In 2021, at the Futurity and Simbrah Roundup, the girls started making bracelets out of what could be considered the equivalent of little colored rubber bands. Then that evolved to selling them for $1 each. But here’s where the Piggytail
Gang’s story gets real good. They held a board meeting of sorts and decided they would award a scholarship(s) to a senior SimGenetic girl exhibitor. “We wanted to do something with our money that would help someone,” described Sawyer with Pebbles adding that they thought it would be cool to recognize an older girl that they looked up to in order to help them with college expenses. “We saw it as a way for the one who would get the scholarship to have a little piece of us to take with them to college,” explained Codie. It was game on for the girls and not only did they sell them at the shows, but they each started marketing them in
their hometowns and schools. Paisley also set up at some local shows in her area with a concession stand with all profits going to the scholarship fund. Fall 2021 came and with the help of their moms, the girls (Continued on page 21)

put the word out that they had a scholarship to award to a graduating senior girl. Their initial goal was one scholarship. They had worked hard all summer and fall and not only could they meet their goal of one scholarship of $250—they had enough to award three in that amount. The first Piggytail Gang scholarships were awarded to Kayla Sansom, Avery Oliver, JadaLea Isles in the amount of $250 each. The girls put together a moving video announcing their winners and posted it to Facebook. In the video they shared reasons why each girl was deserving of the money and why they viewed them as someone the Piggytail Gang looked up to in the barns. The Piggytail Gang members have great respect for each other and they look forward to each show to spend time together. “I am glad I have these girls to spend time with and we have fun at the shows, plus the bracelets are fun to make,” commented Paisley. The other three quickly agreed. In addition to learning about helping others, the girls also gained some business wisdom and learned about competition in the marketplace. Pebbles and Sawyer both sold their bracelets at their school, only to have other girls start making and selling them---often at a lower price and the money was for themselves. Paisley learned about pricing and demand as she put
together menus for her concession stand fundraisers and Codie strengthened her salesmanship skills as she sold bracelets to her friends and family. When asked about what was the best part of being a member of the Piggytail Gang, they all agreed it was hanging with each other at the shows and that they are just glad that they can make a difference in the lives of others. The scholarships were not a one and done project. They have been busy at all the spring majors making and marketing bracelets with plans to award scholarship(s) this fall. They are also adding some other fund raiser activities at the upcoming summer shows. If you’re interested in buying some bracelets or contributing, contact the gang’s management team (their mothers) or look them up at a show.

Oprah, Diva and Bella Bella have all written their own chapter of greatness in the Simbrah breed and each played a major role in establishing the quality that is now in our breed. We value the greatness of these cows and that’s why we have chosen select daughters of each for our donor program. The genetic power these three matriarchs have left (as all are now deceased) is second to none and it is our goal to capitalize on that as we produce SimGenetic cattle from this base. Keep your eye on our program—we’re moving forward with the influence of Oprah, Diva and Bella Bella.
Thank you to the Mixon Family for purchasing this fancy Simmental, sired by CMFM Caught Lookin D929 in Synergy from 7N and Smith Genetics. We appreciate your support. Also thank you to Bell Farms, Ellsworth Cattle, Stork Family and Kaitlyn Floyd for their selection of 7N genetics from Synergy.
