Dr. Steve Schultz has done a stringent BSE (Breeding Soundness Evaluation) on every bull in this sale. Each bull selling has passed Dr. Schultz’s tests and is considered a satisfactory and potential breeder. All bulls are guaranteed as breeding bulls through the first breeding season. If a problem should arise, please contact any of the above numbers and we will offer a replacement bull of equal or greater quality. If a replacement bull is not available when needed, a credit will be issued for Mound Creek’s 2014 Bull Sale.

Directions to Mound Creek Ranch

Mound Creek is located northeast of Madisonville or southeast of Centerville. From I 45, take Exit 152 and go east on Hwy OSR. About 6.5 miles from I 45, turn north on FM 579 and go 1.9 miles to Mound Creek Ranch. From Crockett, go west on Hwy 21 to Midway.

Take a right on Hwy OSR and go about 7.5 miles and turn north on FM 579. Mound Creek sale entrance will be 1.9 miles.

Palpation

The palpation of this sale offering has been performed both physically and with ultrasound. You will be given our best estimate as to the breeding status and service sire of each female. By using both of the above mentioned means, we feel our best estimate for the service sire will be highly accurate; however, palpation is still a best estimate and not guaranteed to be 100% accurate.

Each female called bred is so guaranteed.

Herd Health

Mound Creek Ranch is a Brucellosis Certified Free and TB Accredited Free Herd (#11559). All cattle have been inspected for health and fertility by our veterinarian, are current with annual vaccinations and come with interstate health papers.

Cattle Load Out

Cattle can be loaded out during and after the sale. We ask that any pot-sized loads wait until the conclusion of the registered female sale to load out. We will load out cattle on Saturday and Sunday and ask that each buyer inform the clerks of your desire to load out on Sunday along with an approximate time of arrival. If you require a load out on another day, please inform the clerks as to your desired date and time.

lease accept our invitation to join us at Mound Creek Ranch for our Annual Bull Sale and Registered Female Offering. Since moving to present ranch headquarters this sale will be the 11th bull sale annually held at Mound Creek. In total we have been in the registered seedstock business for 26 years over which time we have seen countless changes take place in the cattle business. We realized years ago we had to become more accountable, not only to our program, but more importantly to our friends in the producers side of this industry.

The purpose of our genetic program and the tireless approach to this effort is our never-ending quest to raise the best beef bulls in the country.

Beef bulls! Don’t you love the sound of that? Beef bulls! Bulls whose sole purpose is to positively affect the profitability of our customer’s programs by influencing their ability to raise ever increasing pounds of beef in an efficient, economical, and cost effective manner while doing so with fewer annual inputs.

In evaluating our genetic progress since 2006 we have increased our adjusted weaning weights by 85 lbs., our adjusted yearling weights over 100 lbs., scrotal circumference by 1.5 cm., ribeye size by nearly two square inches, and IMF value by 1.4%. During this same time period we placed our cow herd in a spring-only 75 day calving season and placed a zero tolerance on females that fail to breed, develop structural and skeletal problems, present udder quality issues, and are substandard in overall calf raising value. Most importantly we put the cow herd on an accountability watch list in forage intense environment removing those cows from our producing herd that prove substandard in paying their annual fare. Their resulting sons, and our future sale bulls, are bombarded with our ever increasing standards for calving ease, increased performance, testicle size, early puberty, carcass merit, structural soundness, fleshing ability, stayability, maternal value, and the list goes on. Our standards are the highest in the country to insure, and assure, the bulls we offer meet the above stated objective.

Would be pretty easy to coast a little since our annual bull sales in Texas and Georgia have been highly successful every year since their inception. Our friends and customers seem to appreciate our continuing efforts and our bulls seem to be doing their intended job. We will continue pushing the window for true genetic improvement in the areas of calving ease, performance, early fertility, soundness, carcass merit, and maternal strength. As the saying goes, we can sure keep doing what we’ve been doing. We have developed a strong program by adding more genetic value as compared to our competitors. Simply put, we know we can keep adding more and more of those valuable pounds. However, continuing to do the same old thing has never been good enough for our program so it’s time to chase that next genetic horizon.

As has always been the case we have never looked for short term solutions to long term problems. Always tried to crystal ball this business looking five to ten years in the future when making breeding and program decisions today. Must do more with less! We know we can make more pounds, however we are now embarking upon a program to help us identify the TRUE ECONOMY OF MAKING THOSE POUNDS. We had to change our bull development to some degree compared to the past. However, very exciting to truly measure genetic differences for economy and efficiency of making more pounds of beef.

Residual Feed Intake (RFI) is defined as the difference between actual feed intake and feed intake predicted on the basis of the animal’s daily gain and maintenance requirements for its body weight. For a given period of time every bull in this sale noted with an RFI, DMI, and R InX in its performance line was tested at Genetic Development Center just south of College Station, Texas in a feeding environment that measured every bite or pound of feed consumed against every pound of gain. The calculation is very complex because mathematical statistics are used to determine the RFI value from thousands and thousands of measurements per bull. A more negative RFI is favored as this indicates less feed intake for given weight and gain. These measurements also allow the computation of daily Dry Matter Intake (DMI) noted in lbs. consumed per day. Finally, R InX is an index given as a percentage above or below the group average calculated using the RFI value, Average Daily Gain during test period, and Adjusted Yearling Weight. A higher R InX indicates a more desirable overall ranking based within the test group.

As in making genetic change for any trait the use of RFI in our selection program will be well thought out, well designed, and considered of high importance. We know we can select for improved RFI without affecting the genetics of production. We know that selecting for improved RFI in the female herd has proven to translate to improved economy and cow efficiency in a pasture environment. We know that selecting for improved RFI can increase net dollars returned in the feedlot. We know that more efficient animals consume less feed or forage thereby allowing more animal units on a fixed unit of land. We are convinced the economy of being in the cattle business has to be addressed from a genetic design point of view and therefore the economy of efficiency is the next frontier to be tackled. We must figure out how to do more with less!

Certainly our program will never be based on single trait selection. Never has and never will. Therefore we will continue to improve the genetic pounds you purchase from Mound Creek. Improved weaning and yearling weight measures will continue to be a key factor in our herd sire selections when blended with predictable calving ease, maternal traits, and carcass merit. And yes, with RFI as well. One trait will never create the perfect bull but all traits working together has a chance.

We sell beef by the pound and there is strong opinion and evidence that a pound of beef will be worth more in 2013 than ever before. Our bulls will sire more of those valuable pounds than you will find elsewhere. You will not have to go through page after page of hype in this catalog designed to convince you. The measured information is the best we have ever presented and the bulls top to bottom are the best we have raised to date. They sell themselves.

Ultrasound Fat (FAT): Measured in inches and adjusted to 365 days.

Intramuscular Fat (IMF): Measured as a percentage and used as a predictor of genetic marbling value.

Ribeye Area (REA): In square in. and used as a predictor of ribeye size.

Expected Progeny Difference Expected Progeny Difference (EPD): The genetic predictor of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the breed database.

EPD Accuracy: Since all bulls in this catalog are non-parents, their accuracies are the lowest calculated by our national sire evaluation program. Every EPD reported is either current or an interim EPD. An EPD noted with a “P” is a pedigree EPD which is the average of the parent’s EPDs. Calving Ease Direct (CED): It predicts the average difference in calving ease between selected sires when bred to first calf heifers. Expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births between sires when bred to first calf heifers with the larger number indicating greater calving ease.

Calving Ease Maternal (CEM): It predicts the average calving ease with which a sire’s daughters will calve as first-calf heifers when compared to daughters of a different sire. Expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births with the larger number indicating greater calving ease Birth Weight EPD (BW): In pounds, predicts calf size and calving ease.

Weaning Weight EPD (WW): Expressed in pounds, is a predictor of an animal’s ability to transmit weaning growth to its progeny.

Milk EPD (Milk): Predicts a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.

Maternal & Growth EPD (MG): Expressed in pounds, a genetic predictor of weaning weight by blending a combination of maternal milk and weaning weight value.

xcept for those stated in the below terms and conditions, there are no warranties, either expressed or implied, as to the merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose with respect to the cattle being sold at this auction. The warranties and guarantees set forth in the “Terms & Conditions” are in lieu of all other warranties, either expressed or implied, and the remedies provided therein shall be the sole and exclusive remedy of the buyer, or any party through buyer, for any breach of warranty or guarantee therein provided, and all other obligations or liabilities.

1. BIDDING: Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. The auctioneer in charge will settle any disputes as to bids, and his decision shall be final.

2. TERMS: All terms are cash or check. Settlement must be made to the clerk at the conclusion of the auction.

3. PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold, but will not be delivered until settlement has been made.

4. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: When full settlement has been made, a certificate of registration will be furnished and transferred to the purchaser on those lots that are registered. Give full name and address to the clerk when making payment so the Certificate of Registry will be transferred properly.

5. HEALTH: All animals where possession is sold are eligible for interstate shipment except as otherwise noted. The cattle have been tested for Tuberculosis and Bangs disease within thirty (30) days of the sale date or come from a Brucellosis Certified Free Herd or come from a Brucelosis Certified Free Herd or originate from a Certified Tuberculosis or Bangs free state.. A health certificate will be furnished.

6. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Announcements from the auction box will take precedence over the printed matter in this catalog.

All cattle will be sold by lot numbers as announced by the auctioneer.

7. BREEDING GUARANTEE: (A) All animals are guaranteed to be breeders with the exception of (1) injury or disease occurring after sale; (2) negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the purchaser. (B) Any bull which either (1) produces viable semen; (2) settles 1/3 or more of the healthy cows he serves; (3) is the sire of 20 or more animals or; (4) settles cows by natural service and passes a fertility test made by a competent veterinarian during any six month trial period, shall be considered a breeder.

8. LIABILITIES: All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. Cattle Brokers, Inc. has been employed by the consignor(s) of the animals being sold solely for the purpose of advertising and conducting the subject sale. All information regarding the subject animals as published in sales brochures and as announced at the sale is based on the representations made to Cattle Brokers, Inc. by the consignor(s). Cattle Brokers, Inc. has not made any independent investigation to verify and Cattle Brokers, Inc. assumes no liability, either legal or equitable, for failure of title, health registration and lien status of the subject animals; and Cattle Brokers, Inc. makes no representations, either expressed or implied, as to whether or not the subject animals are security under any lien, either legal or equitable.

9. PRIVATE BIDS: Phone, mail or wire bids may be furnished in confidential form to Cattle Brokers, Inc. at (979) 690-6612 or FAX (979) 690-6619.

10. OPTIONS AND PRIVILEGES OF RETURN OR ADJUSTMENT: (A) All claims for adjustment or refund must be made in writing within six (6) months of the sale date. (B) Any animal that has not proven itself a breeder within the time limits specified above, if in healthy condition, may be returned to seller at buyer’s expense. The seller reserves the right and privilege of trying for a period of six (6) months to prove the animal a breeder. If proven a breeder, the animal will be returned at buyer’s expense. Should the animal fail to breed, the seller will provide a replacement of the animal with another of equal or greater quality. If a replacement animal is not available when needed, a credit will be issued toward your next purchase.

(C) Any animal returned must have a veterinarian’s certificate that it is healthy and free of Bangs and Tuberculosis.
