On behalf of the American – International Charolais Association, the staff, and the board of directors, it is an honor and a privilege to present to you the offering for the 45th National Charolais Sale. With the National Sale permanently residing in Denver, we feel that this event helps set the tone for the rest of the year. Thus, we set out to assemble the best collection of premium Charolais genetics that are available. We believe that this year’s offering is simply one of the best to ever be offered, and certainly feel that any selection made can help catapult your operation into the future. As our breed continues to evolve, we are constantly in search of the next big thing. Whether that be an outcross pedigree, an EPD package that pushed the envelope, or cattle with the elite phenotype needed to win at the highest levels. No matter which path your herd is taking we feel that this sale has several lots that can fulfill your goals. With the introduction of the North American EPD this past year, many lots should have appeal on both sides of the border. Every lot represents the best that each herd has to offer, no matter if it is a live animal or a choice lot. The most common comment I heard when selecting for this sale was, “We really shouldn’t be selling this one.” We are fortunate to have several first time consignors, we welcome them as well as the main stays that have made this sale what it is. A huge thank you goes out to the entire AICA staff; without them this sale would not have happened. The entire field staff was instrumental in acquiring some of the very best lots offered. We are looking forward to a bright future in the breed, and without the people in the office and the field staff, we will not get there. I would be remiss if I didn’t say thank you to Greg & Brenda Hubert for their 25 year dedication to this event and the breed as a whole. They laid a foundation of success that we only hope to build upon. If myself or any of the AICA staff can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out ahead of the sale. We look forward to seeing you in Denver. Regards,

Colt Keffer

1 LOT

CHOICE OF THE DONORS

Lindskov’s LT Ranch

Lot 1in last year’s National Sale was the choice of any female in the Lindskov’s LT Ranch herd. While the lot was an obvious sale feature that

generated a great deal of buzz, the one comment we heard most was how was the winning bidder suppose to choose the right cow out of so many great ones. This year Bryce, Todd and I wanted to drill down and offer a lot that provided the buyer with more support come selection time. We settled on offering the buyers choice of a select group of donors that checked the boxes on certain criteria. First, they had to be a proven producer but still young enough to be in the prime of their productive lives. Secondly, if they were young and entering into their career as a donor, they needed to offer the intangibles that the Charolais breed is looking for. Keeping those ideals in mind we settled on a group of six donors that we think offer as much value as any choice of the herd ever has. Every one of these donors has proven themselves to be a huge income generator or in the case of the younger cows, offers all the right attributes to be a high caliber donor. If the past history of Lindskov’s LT Ranch is any indication, every one of these cows will instantly move to the top of your herd and propel your operation to the forefront. We have broken them into two groups, the proven and the next generation.

THE PROVEN LT GALA 6530 PLD – F1225943

6530 is the dam of the $40,000 LT Powerstroke1654 PLD. She offers an outcross pedigree and boasts 8 traits in the top 25% of the breed including top 20% WW, 25% YW & 25% TSI

LT SHEILA 337 PLD – F1179298

337 is the dam of 21 progeny in the AICA system including LT Ransom 8644 PLD and LT Triumph 1892, owned by the Effertz Key Ranch. She is extremely balanced on paper and excels in carcass merit with a top 4% MARB EPD.

MISS HCR Leann 5451 PLD – F1201183

5451 is the dam of the $130,000 LT Justified. This is a truly rare genetic package as she has 13 traits in the top one-third of the breed with 9 of those being in the top 10%.

THE NEXT GENERATION LT MOLLY 7033 – F1245910

7033 is an exciting Rushmore daughter that has 10 traits in the top 35% of the breed from birth to calving and to carcass merit. She also boasts a 106 WWR and a 103 YWR.

LT BRENDA 8466 PLD ET – EF1263683

This one will be many people’s favorite. 8466 is a Patriot out of the great 2184 donor. We all know what kind of maternal is bred into her, but in terms of growth and carcass, I don’t know if you can make one much better. Top 1% WW, 1% YW, 1% CW % 3% TSI.

LT MISSY MAE 9074 PLD – F1277866

9074 is another growth and carcass giant. Top 35% YW, 20% CW, 25% REA, 4% MARB & 15% TSI. Her ratios all excelled with age, 95 BWR, 101 WWR & 106 YWR.

CHOICE OF FULL SISTERS

A-D

This

Wright Charolais

lot is offered with great anticipation of what the future holds for Wright Charolais. Denver will be the first time many American cattlemen have laid eyes on progeny by the Canadian outcross SCX Jehu 233E. Jehu was purchased in Canada for $245,000 with Wright’s securing the US interest in him. At the time of writing this, the plan is that several sons will be featured in the WC pen, I would highly encourage you to stop by and see them. We will offer your choice of four full sisters, sired by the #4 TSI bull in the breed, Jehu, and out of the great WC Asta 0505 P. That is right, not only do you get the cutting edge genetics of Jehu, but you also get the backing of one of the great power donors in the breed. 0505 is the dam of WC Monumental 5524 P and WC Inferno 6561 P, two of the most popular sires in the breed for adding power and EPD profile. If you study the pedigree of these heifers, you will find no Rushmore or Ledger. This catalog was produced before the GE EPD’s were ran on December 1st, but before that these full sisters boasted 4 traits in the top 1% of the breed, WW, YW, CW & TSI. Updated genetic information will be made available before the sale and feel free to look them up yourselves.

CAG CLEAR VISION 2634K

CK Cattle

3 LOT

ChrisEffling called earlier in the fall and got to telling me about a bull that he was going to bring out this fall that he thought could make

some waves. When I saw him, I knew that Chris wasn’t too far off. CAG Clear Vision 2634K is a son of TR CAG Carbine’s Vision 9700E ET out of the great BRCHE TR Dory 6501 donor. Dory has proven herself to be a guaranteed producer with 49 progeny in the AICA system. Some of those progeny include WIA Backwater Jack 060 P, past National Champion Bull, TR Ms. Helen 0704H, Reserve National Champion Female for the Krebs Family and CAG Bubbles 9950G, 5th Overall Female at the 2020 Junior National. Clear Vision is built as well as any bull in recent memory. His design and look rival the most attractive herd sires in the breed while still offering plenty of actual red meat, rib shape and stoutness of bone. His foot structure and skeletal flexibility allow him to cover the country with ease. And as a bonus he has already frozen high quality semen. We think that he offers enough breeding flexibility to be used on many of the industry’s leading pedigrees. Study his EPD package and we believe he can be used with confidence on heifers and still has growth figures that rank him in the top 30% WW. If you’re operation is looking to add a different twist to a mating plan while still keeping the emphasis on phenotype, look no further than Clear Vision. Selling 1/2 interest & possession after show career. Semen packages and possession inquiries welcome, please contact the owners or sale management.

CHOICE OF HEIRESS OF TROJAN 720 DAUGHTERS

Cannon Charolais Ranch

CannonCharolais Ranch has become known for producing cattle that elevate into rarified air in terms of EPD profiles. Much of the heavy lifting in

this arena has been done by the Heiress of Trojan 720 donor, who commanded $34,000 for half-interest in the fall of 2022. She absolutely packs a punch in many traits and her offspring benefit greatly from it. Rarely does a tandem of full sibs with this sort of tabulation get offered at public auction. You have the opportunity to choose between two full sisters, CCR Heiress 2511 P ET and CCR Heiress 3003 P ET. Both daughters of FTJ Monticello 1806 by the famous 720 cow. The decision will not be easy as both females offer advantages as to where they rank in the breed. At the time of writing this, both rank in the top 1% for WW, YW, MARB & TSI. 2511 is the #4 female in the entire breed for WW and #2 for TSI. 3003 is the #3 female in the breed for YW with and eye popping 176 YW EPD. They support these traits with real world performance as 2511 has an ADJ WW of 772 to ratio 114 and 3003 has and ADJ WW of 814 to ratio 110. We feel that the breed is heading in a direction where elite EPD profiles will become increasingly more important. If you’re going to start, why not start at the top. 2511

Larson Cattle Co.

Larson

Cattle Company and Fink Beef Genetics have been breeding high accuracy, fault free cattle for years. Their entire program is built on generations of proven genetics that produce year after year. They do not follow trends, they do not use what is popular, they simply use what works on a consistent basis. Both their Charolais and Angus operations rely heavily on the use of E.T. and A.I. technology to mass produce consistent genetics. We would like to personally welcome The Larson family to the 45th National Sale as first time consigners. LCC Miss Lady 8857 6868 FL is the entire program wrapped up in one package. In person you will appreciate her overall quality being maternal in her design, sure footed and sound structured and flawless in her udder development. Her EPD profile will impress you in every aspect from growth to maternal and carcass. She boasts 10 traits in the top 20% of the breed and 3 traits in the top 1%, including a .48 Marbling EPD. The most important trait that she excels in is longevity and pedigree depth. Her dam, MF Miss Lady 6868, has been a very productive donor with 109 calves reported with AICA. 8857 has been highly successful in embryo production as well as she has produced over 70 embryos in limited flushes. CHOICE OF COWHERD

Eaton Charolais

7 LOT

Thechoice of the Eaton female herd is always a highlight in any national sale. With the sheer numbers they offer, it is no small chore to find the right one

to add to your herd. However, with 58 years of selection based on economically important traits, you are able to select from quality in volume. Since 2013 the ETN Brand has qualified 549 females to be Dams of Distinction, this is simply data and numbers proven over time. To give you a brief glimpse into what your selection is comprised of, here are a few points. These are the number of females who rank in the top 25% of the breed out of 2500 females for these certain traits: CE: 908, BW: 1208, MILK: 1401, MCE: 1769, TM: 771, MARB: 878, TSI: 830. As you can see with the selection pressure placed on important genetic trends, Eaton’s are able to produce cattle that work in large quantity. As a whole their breeding philosophy is centered around udder quality, pigmentation, fleshing ability, mothering ability and marbling. This is quite simply one of the most proven herds in the breed. Year after year the buyer of this lot walks away with a new cornerstone of their herd. Eaton’s respectfully request your selection be made around May 1st. The cows will be calved by then and out to grass to help make your selection a little easier.

HF ALAINE 2292 ET

L.G. Herndon

is an absolute pleasure to welcome L.G. Herndon Jr. Farms as a first time consigner to the National Charolais Sale. They were gracious enough to host me on a tour of their operation a day after a category 3 hurricane this past summer. During my visit it was clear to see that they are making all the right moves and building towards something big in the Charolais breed. In saying that, the entire team wanted to make sure that their first venture onto the national stage was done with their best foot forward, in my opinion that goal was met and then some. HF Alaine 2292 ET is an incredible daughter of the popular DC/CRJ Tank E108 out of the now deceased Southern Alaine 5221 cow. 5221 had 6 sons in the fall 2023 sale with the top four demanding $15,500 $12,000, $10,250 & $10,000 to average $10,625 on all 6 sons. Additionally, they sold the choice of three daughters of 5221 that commanded $19,500. Proven is an understatement. The bred heifer that is being offered presents with many of the same high caliber attributes made famous by her dam. She is powerfully built yet still elegant in her design. She offers a tremendous EPD profile with 12 traits in the top 35% of the breed as well as a 110 WW Ratio and a 116 REA Ratio. We all truly believe that 2292 is a cornerstone donor in the making. Safe to CCC Toto 1119P, Due 1-6-24.

Ms. Shandy 3127 is a direct daughter of the 44th National Sale feature, FTJ LTVB Shandy 1527, who sold for $36,000 to Tom Greco. 1527 is most famously known as the dam of FTJ Monticello 1806. The sire of this May born heifer calf, LT Atlas 0251, is quickly becoming one of the breeds most used sires. I would anticipate many more sons and daughters of his entering production very shortly. 3127 is the definition of balanced. She will impress you in terms of phenotype as she offers plenty of eye appeal, added muscle and extra rib shape. When you study her on paper you will find that she boasts 12 different traits that rank in the top 25% of the breed. From birth to weaning, from maternal to carcass, this young female has everything going right for her. Mike and I believe that she can mate well to many of the leading sires and the breed and potentially bridge the gap between phenotype and genotype.

CHOICE OF BRED HEIFERS

Schurrtop Ranch

Schurrtop

Charolais is a nationally recognized program for their breed leading growth and carcass traits. Their philosophy is not to focus on one particular trait, but to try and excel in as many traits as possible when selecting herd sires and mating cattle. This has proven successful for them over the years as several impactful herd bulls have been purchased from their sale. One of the most talked about bulls to sell in the fall of 2023 is Schurrtop Beefmaker 9598, who will sell in the Honeyman Dispersal between the production of this catalog and sale time. Schurr Thing 626J has been a fantastic producer for Broberg and Hubert over the past few sale seasons, with many more sons to come in the future. These bulls represent the quality and genetic excellence offered in the Schurrtop herd. This year you will have the option to select from over 75 bred heifers. The group will consist of many females who are in the upper echelon of the breed for many economically relevant traits. The results produced from Schurrtop Ranch don’t just look good on paper, they have been validated with years of data a kill results. Like many of the past years, they posted wins at the Beef Empire Days. Go to their website and check out those results. If that doesn’t prove what they can produce than nothing will.

Over the past several years you will be hard pressed to find a donor that has been as successful as the one that is backing this May born show heifer

prospect. TR Ms. Dottie 6703D ET has generated over $100,000 in progeny sales in the last two years alone. Not to mention her embryo production value. 6703D is a past Denver sale highlight that commanded $15,000 when sold in 2018 before being named National Champion Female that same year in Kansas City. Just to give you glimpse into the lineage of this heifer, lets study her sisters. • BRCHE MCC Queen of Hearts 3510 PLD ET, $18,750 to Mattisyn Keppen, Volga, SD • BRCHE MCC Hot Toddy 2507 PLD ET, $17,500 to Alyssa Meier, Clinton, Tn • BRCHE MCC Hot Yoga 3511 PLD ET, $16,000 to Garrett Hoskison, Pecan Gap, Tx • BRCHE MCC Hot Tamale 3502 PLD ET, $15,000 to Macy Hoag, Illinois City, IL • BRCHE Hot Sauce 1509 PLD ET, sold for $12,500 and was named Reserve Grand Bred & Owned at the 2022 Junior National. • BRCHE MCC Hot Honey 2508 PLD ET, $11,000 to Austin Teeter, Mt. Ulla, N.C. You are not only buying a show heifer, but you are also buying an investment that will return after her show career. This May female will fit well in her division, and she has all the parts and pieces to excel once in the grand drive. Striking look, tremendous feet and legs, with plenty of rib shape and depth. Some might think it is too late in the season to be buying a show heifer, I argue that it is never too late to add big league quality with this kind of income generating potential.

CHOICE OF BRED HEIFERS

Hebbert Charolais Ranch

and Integrity. Two simple words that describe the Hebbert program. Quality cattle and more importantly quality people. In today’s world integrity is a rare character trait in many people. However, when you deal with the Hebbert family you will notice that there is no shortage of integrity. Whether it is their philosophy in cattle breeding or in the way they handle everyday business, everything is done on a solid foundation with quality and integrity. This choice of bred heifers will feature the cutting edge of their genetic selection. Matt and Lacy have added several high impact herd sires to their program lately. Bulls like; LT Judge 0691 PLD, CCC Probity 9506 P, HC Blue Stone 0431, LT Rushmore 6033 PLD, represent the bulk of the sires of the 125 bred heifers. They are bred to sires like CCC Gangsta 9030 P, SCC Riptide 19H PLD, CCC Probity 9506 P, LT Powermax 2571 PLD, LT Rushmore 6033 PLD. They were AI’d June 1st – 3rd in a 45 day calving window. Every heifer has been 100K and PA tested. They respectfully request that you make your selection by May 15th, 2024. They strive to create a functional cowherd focusing on calving ease, disposition, total performance, and structural soundness. All of these traits are achieved by sticking to the foundation started nearly 50 years ago.

Fires Cattle in partnership with NextGen Cattle Co. have set out to create cattle that advance the Charolais breed at a rapid pace. Their philosophy is to breed cattle with proven pedigrees that push the envelope on EPD profiles and still maintain phenotypic superiority. That breeding mentality has come to life in the form of this pen of fall bulls. The high accuracy donors behind these studs are Rio Ms. Doc Silver C128 ET, Ms. Rio Doc Silver 8017A2 and none other that WR Duchess Y601 herself. They took these donors and flushed them to the $34,000 RBM Keystone H41 and the $105,000 LT Badge 9184 PLD, and the results speak for themselves. The entire pen is consistent with stout built, good looking bulls that offer big spreads from birth to weaning as well as carcass merit. As a group they averaged a weaning weight ratio of 106 and a marbling ratio of 103, as well as an average TSI in the top 11% of the breed. However good these bulls read on paper the most important selection criteria that they are striving for is real world performance and eye appeal. If you see these bulls in person, you should appreciate the way they are designed and how they maintain function while offering an elite EPD tabulation. 206K

This

CHOICE OF COWHERD

King Ranch

choice lot is becoming one of the most hotly contested lots over the past several years, and for good reason. The King Ranch is home to one of the best herds of Charolais cows that you will ever come across. Bill along with Tommy and Becky Spindle are masterful cattle breeders, they know what works for their environment, as well as what works for others. The cattle must be sound footed and functional. Additionally, they have to have muscle, bone and be good to look at. The King herd is heavily influenced by Lindskov-Thiel and Thomas bloodlines. Most notably sons and grandsons of LT Ledger 0332 P, LT Rushmore 8060 PLD, LT Blue Value 7903 PLD and TR Mr. Firewater 5792R ET. During my last few visits, I have been extremely impressed by the cattle sired by LT Horizon 6303 and CAG CC Sideline 7063E ET. Blending those new sires in with his cornerstone bloodlines has left Bill and company with a set of cows that check every box. I would be remiss if I did not mention that if you are the lucky winning bidder of this lot, you will enjoy some of the most scenic views and wholesome hospitality that the Southwest United States has to offer. You are able to buy your choice of any Charolais female in the herd, if you so choose you can take 50% of two cows and share in the embryo interest with King Ranch.

CHOICE OF BRED HEIFERS

Zehnder Waage Partnership

The Zehnder Waage Partnership has established themselves as a powerhouse program in the breed. Over the past few years their bull sale has ascended to one of the best in the country, with several high impact herd sired being featured. In 2022 they saw a new sale top when WDZ Aerosmith 1109 PLD brought $60,000. This year ushered in the first calf crop by their new outcross sire, Tri-N Brooks 34H, and the two highlight sons commanded $51,000 and $25,000. The herd is comprised of many outcross bloodlines backed by generations of proven pedigrees. I asked them to feature some heifers that would be potential options when you buy this exciting, first time consignment. If one of these doesn’t suit your taste, you have the option to select from over 35 more heifers. All are due to calve the first few days in January, by then most of the guess work will be done. 17 LOT

Right before the deadline closed for consignments to this year’s national sale I get a call from Justin DeBower of Gold Standard Cattle Company in Winterset, Ia. Justin said he has a really nice May heifer calf that he would like to sell, to be honest I didn’t know what to expect. When he sent me the picture and video, I knew she needed to be added in sight unseen. A couple of weeks later Hadley Schotte stopped by and saw her in person, the report came back that she was everything we expected from her picture. Thus, we welcomed the DeBower’s into this year’s event. This young heifer calf should turn some heads on sale day. Sired by the very popular PCC Force of Nature 122J and out of a Firewater x 0641 donor, her pedigree is as sterling as it gets. When you see her in person you will appreciate her general build, stout yet elegant design and added rib shape. As a bonus she is extra hairy. We feel that this female has the ability to run in some very tough competition next summer and be a very impactful donor for you down the road.

CHOICE OF OPEN HEIFERS

J&J Trust

J&J Trust has built a cowherd that stems from the aristocracy of the Charolais breed. When they buy genetics to add to their herd, the selection criteria

is simple, quality. Over the past several years Jon has amassed donors from Lindskov’s LT Ranch and Wright Charolais, as well as been very active in other major national events. Those selections have now manifested themselves in what can only be described as an elite cowherd. We welcomed J&J to the 44th National Charolais Sale with their first live consignment, that was purchased by Lindskov’s LT Ranch for $16,000. We will again feature that same selection this year. In large part the donors that make up this choice lot remain the same. 17 daughters of the following donors will be in the choice. LT Brenda 8034, the $50,000 high selling female in the historic Grand Hills dispersal and producer of the $14,000 high selling flush in the 43rd National Sale; M&M Ms. Carbine 1567, the dam of M&M Outsider 4003 PLD, who sold as the high selling lot at the entire 2022 National Western and now has a total valuation of $600,000; LT Ballet 9219, the dam of LT Sundance 2251, LT Venture 3198, and LT Commissioner 5232—three studs averaging $55,667 at auction. Heifers will be sired by Elder’s Houlio 4H, DC/CRJ Tank E108, LT Badge 9184 PLD, LT Blue Value 7903, LT Patriot 4004 PLD, LT Affinity 6221 PLD and the first calf crop by the $220,000 LT Governor 1560 PLD. Just like last year, you will have the option to choose from this set of ET calves or a high quality set of natural born heifers, 39 head in total. Jon would like this selection to be made by April 15, 2024, and he will retain the rights to one successful flush of six embryos at his expense.

are pleased to have Bob Wagner of Wagner Charolais as consigner to the National Sale, with some of the first daughters of LT Governor to be offered. Bob has made great strides in his program over the past several years. In 2019 he acquired one-quarter interest in CCC WC Resource 417 P in the National Sale. Although he didn’t end up winning, Bob was the contenting bidder on the $200,000 M&M Outsider 4003 PLD. That lead to his investment in the $220,000 LT Governor 1560 PLD. This choice of heifers represents the first public offering of daughters sired by the heavily used, power bull. When I viewed this pen of heifers earlier in 2023, I was impressed with their performance and look of quality. You can tell that Governor is going to stamp his offspring with power, rib shape, and natural width. The entire pen ranks in the top 10% of the breed for WW, YW & TSI, while still having above average calving and carcass figures. The dams behind these heifers are largely outcross in their pedigrees and bred for calving ease, birthweight and docility. We feel that when you select the heifer that best fits your program you will be fast tracked to the front of the line in terms of genetic merit. 3202

CHOICE OF THE COWHERD

Odden Charolais Ranch

year we welcomed Odden Charolais Ranch as a first time consigner to the National Sale with the choice of their bred heifers. This year we decided to kick it up a notch and offer the selection of any female in their entire herd. This will consist of over 200 head of females that are bred to produce big, stout cattle that look good. This herd has produced cattle that have competed in the show ring as well as having an established commercial bull following. While never bred specifically for EPD’s, I challenge you to find a herd who will benefit more from the joint North American EPD system. Peel the layers back and you will find generations of American bloodlines woven together with top Canadian genetics. This has built a cow base that is just what I mentioned above. They are stout, cool looking cattle with mostly outcross pedigrees and now have the benefit of a boosted EPD profile. I wrote in last years footnote that the buyer of their lot in the 44th National Sale will buy it the cheapest it will sell for, I believe that even more now. With the addition of the cow herd, the benefit of the North American EPD evaluation as well as a new set of herd sires adding quality to the herd, I feel that the statement will be validated.

45TH NATIONAL SALE - SATURDAY, JANUARY 13, 2024

CHOICE OF PEN BULLS

5J Charolais

21 LOT

5JCharolais is bringing us a stout set of paternal brothers, sired by their senior herd sire WCR Sherman Tank 0525 ET. Sherman Tank was selected in the 2021

Wienk Charolais Ranch Bull Sale and has left his mark on their herd. In a limited offering this past fall, progeny by 0525 sold around $5,000. As a whole Sherman Tank offers real world performance, eye appeal and will enhance your genetic profile. The 5J pen averaged a BW of 73 lbs. and an ADJ. WW of 737 lbs. Every bull in this pen excels in several traits across the board. On the November EPD run, all bulls have a double digit CE figure with a negative BW, while still being in the top third of the breed for YW, MILK, MARB & TSI. You will appreciate this pen for their added muscle shape, structural integrity, and easy fleshing look. Tank progeny are surfacing to the top of many programs due to their growth and performance. Take advantage and add a herd builder to your program.
