Cattle sell per the terms & conditions of the Hainy Farms. Announcements from the Auction Block on Sale Day regarding the cattle selling in this sale will take precedence over the information printed in this catalog.

No cattle will be loaded until paid for. Terms are cash, check with proper ID (i.e. Driver’s license) or Master Card/Visa will be accepted with a 3% fee. For example, if you are the successful bidder at $1,000 and you charge your purchase using your credit card. Your credit card statement will show a payment of $1,030.

This auction is a live online auction, via bid online at CCI.LIVE. If you can’t see the cattle, contact one of the owners, or consultants for information about the offering.

RISK

All animals are the owner’s risk prior to their sale and become the property of the purchaser as soon as declared “sold” by the auctioneer (but will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time).

PAYMENT

Terms of payment are cash, good check or credit card. No cattle will be loaded until approved by Hainy Farms. Please make payment within 14 days of the sale, any bills past 30 days will be subject to a 3% service charge. Cattle must be paid for before they leave. Cattle must be loaded within 14 days or have other arrangements made with Hainy Farms or Sale Management. We will be working with the Dakota Classic and First Class sale for trucking as well.

All females are sold under the condition “safe in calf” and sell with no further guarantee.

All cows have been run out on pasture, due to dry conditions have been supplemented with a silage and hay ration, and mineral Health papers for interstate travel will be available. Bred females have been pregnancy checked safe. Updated breeding information will be available on a supplement sheet sale day, this sheet will take precedence over statements in the sale catalog.

ULTRASOUND

The ultra sounding was done by Tyler Grussing of Dakota Repro LLC. The heifers were ultr a sounded on September 6th 2022. The cows were ultra sounded on September, 30 2022. They will be armed the week of the sale to insure they are safe in calf, if any changes arise, it will be noted on the sale supplement sheet.

Welcome to the Hainy Farms spring calving herd dispersal and thank you for your interest in our program.

Cows have always been what drives me to get up and get going in the morning. Time has caught up with Pam and me. We would like to travel more and spend more time with family. The decision to part with our spring cows has not been an easy one, but knowing this is a great opportunity for our customers and friends to have a part of our genetics is comforting.

Our farm was established in 1888, and we implemented AIing in 1971. We started flushing cows in the early 2000’s. Therefore, a number of the females in this sale are from embryos we had in our tanks.

Our purpose was to raise easy fleshing cows with lots of middle and flank with eye appeal. The Duff, Schaefer, Jauer, Griswold, and Olhde herds helped us reach those goals. They were fertile, good uddered and still were attractive to look at.

Back when we decided to quit raising show calves our emphasis changed to raising maternal females for show calf production.

This group of cows has been bred for club calves for the first time ever. We are very confident these cows will do a great job for their new owners. None of the cows in this sale have been flushed.

Dear Fellow Cattlemen,

It’s an absolute honor to work with the Hainy family on this dispersion sale. Being life long family friends and working with them on past Dakota Classic sales, it’s a privilege to bring to you the last set of cattle ever offered.

Opportunities don’t come around like this very often. Most of these cows wouldn’t be for sale if the Hainy family wasn’t hanging up the hat with the cattle. A farm established in 1888, and passed down from generation to generation, Roger Hainy is one of the best cattlemen in the country.

Back when Wessington Springs, SD was the first and only club calf capital of the world, Rog was one of the first 10 breeders that formed, with “The Map” in the Livestock Exhibitor and Show Circuit, to have steer sales and moved into the fall for the first pasture bid offs ever offered. It’s amazing to think back in the early 90’s, Hainy Farms selling winning show steers including the Iowa State Fair and Indiana State Fair in 2002.

Hainy Farms then progressed into targeting more maternal in the 2000’s, starting the Dakota Classic with Vanhove Cattle Company and Swanson Cattle Company. Selling some of the best females in the country, in one location, sending them all over the United States.

Rog and Pam decided to slow down around 2015, in turn sold 300+ head to Rob and Sheryl Vanhove. Thus continuing on the Hainy Legacy, still in the true Dakota Classic fashion, Hainy genetics are still offered today, going back to the yellow tag cows, with the year letter in their tattoo. You may not know Roger or Nathan Hainy, but you know the cattle.

As we all know, passion runs deep in true cattlemen, and Rog and his son Nathan weren’t quite ready to completely hang up their hats with the cattle, so they started rebuilding. Purchasing cattle from reputable breeders, and putting in past embryos from high end donors, some time tested genetics started this modern, young aged herd we bring you.

Riding in the combine with Rog, discussing these cows, it was easy to see the true passion that lies

in the program. I carry the same passion in selling these cows, and have taken the time, and the best possible steps to represent the hard work of Rog, Nathan and their families. It was a pleasure to work with the Hainy family, and Stephanie Steck creating this dream book.

This cow represents our time tested genetics, in the young package we all dream of. This chromed up cow is an own daughter of G713, our 6807 donor. The value of these time tested genetics is shown, when a 20 year old pedigree looks amazing in a four year old form. The dollars this cow has the potential to generate is endless with G713 stacked in her pedigree. Back when we were selling club calves, G713 had a number of high selling calves. Including Patton daughters in the Dakota Classic, for $18,000 and $7,000 and a WMW for $7,500. A nostalgic cow, destined for Here I Am, and greatness.

The potential of these 3105 daughters is limitless. Huge footed, great haired, body and mass to burn. This one along with lot 13 and 14 are all from a Prototype cow Rog purchased from Schelske’s. For an Angus she adds power and hair, all while keeping the consistency, in the last 4 calves on 3105, 3 daughters are highlight lots in the sale! Lot 2 has an incredible Powerline heifer in the replacement pen, we can’t wait to see what she does bred to, king of the ring, Here I am!

J Lo is one of those animals that is striking from any angle, walking away, towards you, it doesn’t matter. The hair just hangs off those giant legs, and moves effortlessly. As a MaineTainer she could breed maternal or for steers, this ones versatility is off the charts as a future donor!

Phenotypically impeccable, genetically invincible! When I first photographed this cow at Hainy’s I thought wow this is a great one, then when I learned of her heritage, this cow is one a herd can be built around. T751 is one of the most famed cows to come out of the Hainy program, and has sold some of the most high selling daughters in the Dakota Classic! A Merlin topped out at $17,000 last year. F813 is the dam to lot 5 and full sister to lot 6 and 7. Buy a piece of the T751 legacy.

Lot 4, 6 and 7 are all full sibs, from one of the most prolific and influential donors, the T751 Looker cow. T751 is one of the most famed cows to come out of the Hainy program, and has sold some of the most high selling daughters in the Dakota Classic! A Merlin topped out at $17,000 last year.

F817, lot 7, is the dam to lot 8 and 46, and a full sib to what’s in her belly, just an example of what these cows will make. Buy a piece of the T751 legacy before they’re gone. Just decide if you want a sister carrying one for a steer or one like lot 46!

May We All is one of the best Maine calving ease sires to date, the females out of him are really working, phenomenal profiled and hairy. Now crossing him with the T751 Looker Dam, we have power in the blood here! This is lot 7’s first calf, safe to say these cows will work. H008 has an excellent Bushs Wing Man in the replacement pen.

Every time I see a Merlin daughter bred to HIA I think of the Good to Go bull, this is what dreams are made of! Here is an ideal Merlin to raise steers, bulls or females. Impeccably built, it’s hard to have that much power and such eye appeal. Her calves are always stout, hairy, and easy keeping. She has a granddaughter selling as lot 28 and her Jack Daniels heifer is a can’t miss in the replacement heifer pen.

Virgil was our easy calving selection from Schelske’s. Virgil is a Basin Rainmaker 4404 x Silveiras Style X Dameron American Classic. His eye appeal, correctness, and added hair made him an easy selection for us. This heifers grand dam, X075, is the dam of the lot 82 in the 2019 Dakota Classic that brought $24,000. Made For You, was purchased from Caffee Ranch and raised some really nice daughters for us and Rob Vanhove. Lot 56 is another top notch Made For You.

Another maternal sister to Lot 2 and 13, out of the great Merlin the sire of the high selling Dakota Classic daughters! We just love her profile, bone and how much power she gracefully carries. Here is a no brainer to go raise some power steers, all set up for you with Here I am! Check out her May We All daughter, Lot 54 -H009, in the sale.

Talk about royally bred!! This cow goes back to the great X063 cow that is the dam to Vanhove’s top donor 411B. This cow’s dam is lot 84 and maternal sister lot 48! X063 is an amazing cow, really produced for Hainy’s, don’t let this big bodied, stout May We All out of a larger framed Merlin get by you. She is likely to have a Patron next Spring.

OH boy, here is a pedigree we all dream of! We can’t say enough about the genetics 610 has provided for us, through her daughters and her son Powerline who we used on heifers. Notable daughters include: an Adrenaline in our 2013 pasture sale for $25,000, the Dakota Classic, Adrenalines for $18,000 & $10,500 and an Irish Whiskey for $10,000 are a few. Maternal Mades are making the best steer mamas, add in some 610 for consistency, likely bred to Here I Am!

Three-quarter sisters to this cow have topped of at $18,000 and $10,500 in the Dakota Classic. We can’t say enough about the genetics 610 has provided for us, through her daughters and her son Powerline who we used on heifers. A maternal sister out of Irish Whiskey commanded $10,000 in the Dakota Classic. Raise yourself an amazing daughter by Merlin. True Rog Hainy bred right here! She lost a toenail when she was a calf and it grew back funky, sound as a cow.

The only Powerline in the sale, out of an incredible Irish Whiskey cow. We can’t say enough about our Powerlines, they make productive cows that are very eye appealing. We bred her to Spot On for her 2nd calf. Take her home and use a wide variety of bulls to promote your program. Her maternal sister sells as lot 45.

A very attractive Angus sired daughter of Adrenaline and 524. 524 was our purchase at the Promise Angus Ranch Dispersal. We flushed her extensively. A Harwood 209 x 524 bred cow brought $19,000 in the Dakota Classic 2019. Several Adrenaline X 524 have sold well in past Dakota Classic Sales.

This is one of those cows that hits you hard when you walk by, Irish Whiskey stamped those daughters with that beautiful head and neck, this cow is no different. The 193 cow was a top producer for the Hainy family and was their top pick at one of the Jauer Angus sales. The look and consistency the Jauer cattle provided is second to none. Her daughter sells as lot 26.

Wow and another Virgil x Irish Whiskey that’s a sure stand out, that pedigree flat works. We love them for their extension and throw in the 193 cow for good measure. It really doesn’t get any better, these young cows are ready to work!

Another Virgil with a bit more frame and power, she gets that from her grand dam, lot 9. She is out of a Block Buster daughter now in the fall herd. Very good individual. C580, her grandam is an excellent cow. Sappy middled and deep flanked.

Flush mate to the lot 29. We have had so many exceptional daughters from 193 from several maternal bulls and we decided to try something different so we used Upgrade and got this outstanding heifer. We are finding out Upgrades are making great base cows, we feel this one will do the same.

A hairy big bodied Hot Sauce. Hot Sauce is a Hustler (Simm) X Irish Whiskey. This Hot Sauce is an ET daughter of 193 who was flushed extensively to a variety of sires, and consistently worked well.

Lot 32, 33 and 34 are flush mates and I think it’s easy to see how much they look alike. Great neck extension, awesome middle, and exceptional power for young cows. They get the power from their dam, 28, the incredible Jauer Angus cow. larger, more powerful than many. Hot Sauce is a Hustler (Sim) X Irish Whiskey from Dean Kephart. These flush mates are very consistent.

Wyatt Earp was our pick in the Caffee Ranch 2020 bull sale. We loved his power and neck extension, and yet so much bone and moves so well. We believe in cow families and the A28 cow has had several great Maternal Made heifers in their fall program. The W28 has had one of their high selling steers so has the T28 cow. Consistency is key and we have always believed that! He prefers to be out with his girls then in a pen by himself.

707E is an extremely consistent cow, with another daughter and herself in this sale. She should have been flushed and needs to be! Wyatt Earp gives such an amazing look to those Merlins. This bred heifer is destined for great things!

dam is in the fall herd, so not on this

but incredibly built and a full sister to lot 4. We don’t need to keep repeating how great T751 is, we know you’re getting it.

One cool looking, attractive female that’s ready to go and work. She’s a young cow that can be bred anyway you like. We predict as good as those Wyatt Earp’s look, this mating is a sure bet! She has a long production life ahead of her. Her sire is out of 610, Powerline’s mother.

A more moderate daughter of Adrenaline out of 524, a much flushed Angus donor. Her sisters have sold well in the Dakota Classic including a $9,000 Adrenaline and a $19,000 Harwood 209. F815 has a County O in our replacement heifer pen. She got a little worked up in the photo pen, but Rog was surprised she acted that way, as it’s not in her norm.

This cow is one of my favorite cows, and everything I look for in my herd. She’s big boned, hairy, sound uttered, and has a fantastic disposition. Her cow family has produced several excellent replacements in her time at our farm. We all know Whizards out produce themselves, her daughter sells as lot 52.

This daughter of lot 51 adds a bit more neck extension on a powerful cow line.

When we set out to make steers this cow is at the top of the list. Attractive at any angle and flawlessly structured. This attractive Data Bank had an exciting Powerline heifer last Spring. Her dam is a registered Angus from Schelskes. This young cow will improve anyone’’s cow herd, and is a future donor to base the cow herd around.

Talk about a female that makes your mouth water. These Drivin’ 80’s are becoming more popular everyday for the base cows, and throw in a little Maternal Made for the extra power, this one needs to be bred Here I Am! Chad Forman was ready to trade his torching bill for this cow, lucky for you Rog said no. I’d say it’s safe to say she is Chad’s favorite! Her first calf was a Powerline we left for a bull.

Probably our best Made For You daughter. Hairy and good bodied. Her first calf was an outstanding May We All heifer calf. Her second was a very nice Patron. Made For You was a bull Brad Otto purchased from Dave Caffee. Likely carrying a Here I Am calf in her belly. Very good cow.

As much as we love the Simmental Maine cross, it was a no brainer to use Good As It Gets. We love this one for her style, hair and bone. Can’t wait to see this one as a mature cow. I purchased this ¾ Simmental heifer from the fall sale of Dave Caffees, she goes back to their great B15 “Buffy” cow that was Reserve Champion Simmental at the SDSF and her full brother was a top selling bull on their bull sale. Power in the blood on this one!

A Caffee Ranch bred heifer, the Rodman cows always added the extra extension of the next and made a big splash for Caffees. Her dam has produced two Maternal Made bulls in their sales, along with several heifers I’ve bid on over the years. This ones’ look with being a big bodied and so sound makes her very attractive. We all know Brokers make fantastic cows, especially backed a great cow family like this.

With all the popular crossbred bulls available, we feel using straight Angus, from the top breeders in the nation, improves consistency. We expect our Angus cows to be big middled, moderate, sound, and have eye appeal. The T751 and 610 cows are perfect examples of the Angus cows producing great ones. Those two cows have totaled over $350,000 in sales!

Look at these cows to use as base cows for your herd, like we have been doing.

2600 is an Angus fall calver we bought and she had this outstanding heifer. 2600 has an incredible Wyatt Earp daughter in the replacement pen. Big capacity, stout.

Here is a maternal sister to T751, yes you read that correctly, a MATERNAL SISTER to T751, arguably the most prolific donor for Hainy farms. Out of the great Damage Control, that sold numerous high selling females on the Dakota Classic. This is an old school, OG, type pedigree in a four year old cow that’s ready to produce! Imagine how cool looking her Wyatt Earp calf is, find her in your replacement heifer pen.

This is the type of cow that out produces herself every time. The original immortal Meyer 734 by the mother of T751. Plan on making money here, or throw her Wyatt Earp in your keep pen, bull or heifer I bet it will be hard to let go!

ANGUS

Another Stunner. Incredible volume and mass in this cow. She is also extremely docile. She has a very outstanding daughter in our replacement heifer pen. A really good cow that anyone would be proud to own. This Prime Cut cow is a little larger framed and has been very productive. Here is a registered Angus cow that’s destined for the freaky 3⁄4 Maine bull to create those Maine-Angus!

The Southern Charms have some look to them and with Northern Improvement on the other side of the pedigree, this 2nd calver certainly does. She had a nice Powerline heifer for her first calf and likely is bred to Spot On for her second.

Imagine a power up Merlin out of this cow, or better yet go look at lots 79-87 and start clicking the bid button to build your own! This cow will make those powered up ones you can do anything with!

WHIZZARD X GCC 8/47U IRISH WHISKEY

When this daughter walked into the picture pen, I said “Whoa” under my breath… Impeccable female with the cute snip nose to top it off. I absolutely love the power and bone here in a complete maternal package. It was an easy decision to lead off the Merlin sire group with this cow, she has all the big pieces to be a great one in your herd. Big bodied and extremely attractive. She will calf later to Wyatt Earp, I can’t wait to see the neck on that one in

Added power to Merline with the Duff and Irish Whiskey in the pedigree. She is the dam to lot 44, our lead off Wyatt Earp daughter. Just more proof in the pudding these Merlins produce! Disclosure she has one blank quarter. Her dam has been a good producer for us... Her daughter, J117 is in the sale.

If you haven’t figured it out yet the Merlins are the cornerstone of our herd, just solid good functional cattle and this cow is no different. She is the dam to lot 59 that incredible May We All, J116. You may consider going back to Maine with a daughter like that!

I couldn’t wait to ask Rog what this one was when she walked into the pen, and with the unreal phenotype I should have known, Merlin. Just wow, what would you change about a complete cow like this one? AND due to Here I Am. It really doesn’t get much better, or does it, when she goes back to the 135 donor. Her Adrenaline Junkie heifer is a top heifer in that replacement pen!

She’s

Merlins are our cornerstone because of their ability to out produce themselves. Take 707E her daughters Lot 15 and 48, both incredible bovines. Bred to Here I Am after having two heifers in a row!! Double down on this female!

Really good daughter of Merlin. Larger frame can’t say enough about our Merlins, they make really good cows. Look at this cow to produce a May We All like lot 15!

One of the lead off bred heifers, out of one Incredible cow, lot 88. This ones hair and extension is unbelievable, like several Definats in the sale! Making ¾ Simmentals like this one is exceptionally hard, take advantage as the work is done!

This has to be one of deepest bodied, broodiest cow in the offering. Super easy going and stout. If you are looking for deep bodied cows with a lot of mass, here is the cow for you.

Rog and Rob Vanhove purchased Defiant from Kerns as their lead off purebred Simmental sire in 2017 for $29,500. He is seven years old now and produced some amazing cows for both operations. He is selling in his entirety. We will let all the daughters do the talking for this phenomenal purebred sire.

This cows dam has had some powerful Merlin and Defiant daughters. Consistency runs deep in this cow family. This baldy, big bodied is a perfect fit for May We All!

It’s safe to say this cool looking bred heifer gets her looks from her dam, lot 91- 827F Lots of potential on this 3/4, could be bred to Simmental or for steers. Good haired baldy.

The Harwood 209 cattle have always been very productive, this baldy has a lot of potential. Painted up ones stand out in the show ring, and sell high these days. Don’t miss out on an exceptional opportunity!

I’ve double checked this cows pedigree and photo making sure she really is a ¾ Simmental… and yes unicorns do exist! This Defiant daughter is out of a Grandmaster dam that always has a good one. 3/4 Simmental, big bodied and broody, with that long sleek neck that’s so hard to come by in a Simmy. Her May We All is sure to be a great one!

These full sisters look a lot alike and only a year apart. Beautiful, profiled and stout. A Merlin sister brought $8,000 in the Dakota Classic and another full sister is in the replacement pen, along with a Powerline out of 008H. Just decide if you want a Wyatt Earp or a May We all.
