Currently23%ofthepopulationareseniors,andthisnumberisprojectedtoincreaseto 38%by2025.Theneedforqualityseniorlivingopportunitiesiseverincreasingasour populationgrows,andastheneedsofourfutureseniordemographicchangeovertime.
ThePrestonisdeemedoneofDallas’smost luxuriousseniorliving communities.CEO oftheSilverstoneHealthcareCompany,DannyAlberts,envisionedthiscommunityas being“theRitzofseniorhousing”.

LocatedinNorthArizona,Sedonaisfamousforitsredrocksceneryand nationalforestswhichcoverover1.8millionacres.Withintheredrock sceneryandnationalforests,thereare4mainvortexmeditationsites whicharespotsofenergyenteringorleavingtheearth’splane.These vortexesarelocatednearsacredsitesandareareahugetouristattraction. Theswirlingpoolsofenergyaffectthegrowthofthetreeswhichnaturally leadthetrunkstogrowinaspiralingmanner.Inspiredbythesurrounding treesandhopestospreadmoreknowledgeandawarenessofNavajo Cultureandweaving,wechosetonametheretailstore“WovenRoots”
Aretailexperienceintegratedintoaresidentialenvironment. TheNavajopeopleareinvolvedinmanydifferentartforms withNavajoweavingbeingthemostprominent.Ourproject featuresamodernretailexperience/lifestylewithtraditional Navajoculturalanddesignsaspects.TheNavajopeoplehavea bigfocusonnatureandconnectingtotheearthwhichiswhy weareusingnaturalmaterialstofurtherconnectthenatural environmentwiththebuilding.Ourfinalproductcombines functionalitypurposesandaestheticslikeNavajoweavingdoes.

Ourrestaurantistobeconsideredan extensionofthevisionanddesignconcept ofTheBotanistCraftCocktailLounge,which isattachedtotheParadisoRestaurantinthe BishopArtsdistrict.Ourdesignisaneffortto re-imaginethefeeloftheBotanistBarinthe formatofafinediningrestaurant. Incorporatingthedarkmoodycolorsand textilesoftheoriginalbarwillreinforcethe feelingofprivacyandintimacythatcreates aneffectiveenvironmentforfinedining.
ThedesignwillcapturethespiritandtheenergyofDeepEllum’snightscenewittheuse ofboldcolors,strongcurvilinearlinesthatdrawindividualsthroughspacesandcreate uniqueidentitiesineachlocation(i.ebar,maindining,entrance)toapplyeffective wayfindingprinciples.Wewillbeimplementingthetheoryofprospectandrefugeby incorporatingalternateceilingheightsanduseofpartitionsinthelargeopendiningspace tocreatemoredesirableseatingas“peoplepreferenvironmentswheretheycaneasily surveytheirsurroundingsandresorttosafetyifnecessary”(Holden,Lidwell&Butler, 2010).Wewillapplylightingpsychologytoourdesignbyusinglightingtoformfunctional zones,withvaryingluminance,brighterinhightrafficareas,anddimmerinareasof relaxation(i.ebar,loungeetc.)as“differentilluminancelevelsestablishaperceptual hierarchyanddirecttheviewersgaze”(Sabedra,2017).
