intertwined ARCH 401 | Fall 2023 Professor: brian warthen | partner: ashley boun Intertwined is a social justice center based in Denver, Colorado designed to create a space to allow the general public and government officials to converse. Denver is a hub for social justice but there is a lack of civil engagement among the youth. There is a struggle to have these conversations on the topic of social justice regardless of one’s political level, as well as a lack of space to hold these conversations in. Our building is a space to be able to cultivate these conversations, whether they are public or private, or a mix of both. We hope to bridge the gap between public and private conversations. Our building begins with entering on the most private level before traveling up to the second and third floors which become much more public. The second floor also houses an open green space, designed for the intermixing of occupants in the building. Each floor is open to allow for any parties occupying the space to arrange the space to fit their needs. Boasting a cantilever with views out towards the capitol and civic points of interests, this sparks conversations with these as topics. This building is a space where the community can come together in order to have difficult discussions in a safe and comfortable environment, with a variety of different spaces catering to the type of conversations that are being held.

IMMERSIVE LANDSCAPE ARCH 301 | Fall 2022 Professor: Kevin Lair | partner: Sierra Wroolie Seen too often is a disconnect between architecture and landscape. Largely, there is a focus on architecture, while the landscape ends up as an afterthought. However, landscape is an imperative part of designing architecture. The landscape is meant to inform the landscape, and vice versa. The goal of this project was to highlight the connection between architecture and landscape. Westbrook Artist’s Site (WAS) located in Winterset, Iowa encompasses 550 acres of land, consisting of a variety of different ecosystems and activities. The site is comprised of several different plant species, in addition to large amount of game which outfitters regularly come to the site to hunt. Prescribed prairie burns also occur every few years. Tasked with creating a hunting lodge and a series of residencies on site (both temporary and permanent), we wanted to focus on these various activities and what makes WAS so special and designed our structures with these ideas in mind. Our structures are intended to invite users in, as well as push them out into the land to traverse the wide site and immerse themselves in the landscape. Placed strategically on paths of existing pathways, this allows for better flow throughout the site. In exploring the site, visitors are meant to gain a new perspective and appreciation for the landscape.

L’harmonieux ARCH 201 | Fall 2021 Professor: Reinaldo Correa | partner: Brianna Reed L’Harmonieux is a structure born out of the combination of Victorian and Art Deco styles, creating a new typology on its own. By taking inspiration from these styles in orthographic drawings, we created a structure that isn’t specifically categorized into Victorian or Art Deco. The outcome is something new altogether, creating harmony between the two styles. L’Harmonieux is designed as a bridge meant to allow passage over a small body of water. In addition, there are elliptical modules along the entire body of the structure. These would house local flora, letting visitors get a closer look at the local ecosystems, as well as learn more about them. Being surrounded by the beautiful vegetation, as well as hearing the sound of the body of water below the bridge, our structure is meant to instill a feeling of peace and harmony in visitors.

WIP: BRAND ACTIVATION HUB ARCH 402 | SPRING 2024 Professor: Bosuk Hur | partners: Angelina German, Ashley Boun San Francisco is a very well-known tourist location and is commonly known as a tech hub. However, San Francisco’s downtown district has been experiencing record-breaking office vacancy rates, primarily in relation to COVID and the shift to work-from-home culture. Because of that, San Francisco’s foot traffic and tourism rates are at an all-time low, leaving the downtown area lifeless, with little being done to address this problem. Our proposal is to create a “brand activation hub” in the heart of downtown, ideally bringing life and community back to the area. Our “brand activation hub” is designed as a space to house a variety of different pop-ups and events in collaboration with local businesses, small or large. This space is meant to support these brands and give them a space to showcase themselves and increase awareness of their brand. Additionally, it would help them build their brand up, while also bringing excitement and freshness back to the vacant downtown area, creating a mutually beneficial outcome.
