1 More Recovery Support Manager 2018 Step Alumnus Michael Pratte Now Serving Others as a Recovery Support Manager (Peer Coach)
During COVID lockdown, Step residents and alumni were up against record unemployment, the isolation of social distancing, 12-step recovery meetings being cancelled or going remote, and health related stressors. You did not sit by - you stepped up and carried us through. It wasn't easy. Step was restricted to 50% capacity most of the year, the Career Center had to take a new approach to guiding resident employment efforts, and both the Career Counselor and the Programs Team expanded their services to help former residents who were reaching back out for support. These words never more true: Together, we can overcome what we were incapable of achieving alone.
Alumni Follow-Ups Contact was made with 101 men in the year following their transition from the program. Alumni were heavily impacted by the pandemic and Recovery Support Managers provided coaching and support connections during these calls.

Help as many men as possible find freedom from addiction - that's our charge. Step Denver will be able to provide A HAND UP to more men in the year ahead because of you. Sober Living Home additions are giving more residents a structured transition back into the community and freeing up space for new resident intakes in Step's 60-bed Primary Facility downtown. Outreach contacts/visits to detox centers, homeless shelters and the like, are making sure men are aware of Step at the time they need us most. Our Recovery Support Manager peer coaching team is growing proportionately to ensure every resident has the level of engagement, guidance, and accountability necessary to achieve long-term success.

FULL CIRCLE: 2019 Step Alumnus Jason's employer was struggling to find dependable, hardworking employees. He told them about Step Denver and offered to help with recruitment efforts by meeting with Step's Career Counseling Manager (CCM). Jason shared the details of open positions and qualifications and CCM Mark McCright identified residents who would be strong candidates, guiding them through the process. Jason's return to Step - in a new capacity - resulted in good jobs for four residents.

I was in the Marine Corp for 8 years, was deployed to Iraq in '07, and I went untreated with my PTSD for quite a while. When you mix that with trying to escape reality (for me, alcohol) it's a s***storm. I've always known I needed help, but I didn't know how. You know, people who are healthy and sober, they tend to stay away from people who aren't. I recently started talking to my sister and my parents again. It'd been over a year. My behavior was just so unpredictable, it broke their hearts. They're so pumped up and appreciative of what Step Denver has done for me. This place has changed my life." - Micah
