REPORT 2024 IMPACT IMPACT

BECAUSE OF YOU
330MEN
were introduced to a life of sobriety, work, accountability, and community at the most critical time.
Walking through our doors, 201 were homeless and 116 were on the verge (intermittent housing with no address). They were put on a path to accomplish things never thought possible.
This report is just a small sampling of what happens when a man who’s ready and willing is given an opportunity.
We can’t thank you enough for being the source of second chances and for your enduring role in the lives of our men.

In January, Step Denver was awarded the Daniels Fund’s inaugural Medal of Excellence, chosen as the top performing non-profit among nearly 400 organizations in a four-state region.

of Step Residents Obtained Full-Time, Tax-Paying Jobs Within 30 Days

Before coming to Step Denver, Mason had lost everything - he spent the last 10 years in and out of the justice system and living on the streets as a consequence of his addiction.
“Step helped me because I had a degree from DU - I’m in computer science, a full stack web developer, and since before covid, I really haven’t had a good job. I was applying to jobs that I didn’t even want and was getting turned down cause of my background and ended up with this accounting and estimating job. They’re about to expand, so it’s gonna be like an entire career. It’s like I’ve landed something I’ve been looking for for a while.
Last week I got employee of the week, and this week I got top sales again for the second week in a row, and I’ve only been there for a month and a half.”

LESSONS LEARNED
In the Spring of 2023 Step extended the length of stay for Phases I - III at the Larimer Primary Facility from 90 days to 4-6 months before transitioning to Phase IV, Sober Living Homes (SLH). Providing residents more time to prepare for the move - being ingrained in Step culture and building structure into their lives - led to a
$11,122,000 - Every dollar you donated was turned into $5.13! 22% increase in Successful Transitions out of SLH.
“I can't be happier with how my life has turned around from sleeping in shelters and park
benches to being in a sober home.

At one point it just kinda hit me - that I kept losing everything good I had in my life.
It was about that time, my aunt who was also an alcoholic died - she had a heart attack. I went to that funeral and I’ll never forget - everyone there was like, ‘She was suffering. She’s in a better place now.’ That’s all anyone talked about. I remember that hit me so hard. I was just like, ‘That’s gonna be me.’
Then I came to Step. There is actually a line from the Big Book that talks about how you get a design for living. That’s what I think about Step - what I got out of it was this whole new layout and blueprint for how to live that I had lost track of.
My dad and I started talking. My mom and I always had a bit of a rough relationship, but now we talk to each other every other week. My sister has two kids and really wants me to be involved as an uncle. When I was getting drunk, she didn’t, and now she’s like, ‘Well I’m gonna bring them to Denver, let’s all hang out. Can you watch them?’ It’s that kind of responsibility I never thought I would have.
I’m really grateful for everything that Step has presented me. You’re taking steps back up, into a better life. That’s what I have now… and I appreciate it.

When I was drinking I was just miserable. I’d get really drunk and then sleep all day. I felt like my life had no purpose or meaning. When I came to Step, the best thing about this program for me was the work and the accountability. Feeling better about myself, the routine and working, it just starts to make you feel better physically, having the energy that builds my self-esteem. Then I achieve my goals and start to build a brighter future.
