Asha lives on an island.
Today, Asha is learning how to swim!

Asha is scared. “Don’t worry, ” says Mom. “Look at the animals swimming. Try moving your legs and arms just like them”

Say: Animals are living things that move! If something moves we know it’s an animal. Are you an animal?

Asha takes a deep breath and dips her head under the water.

Ask: What does she see?

She tries to kick her legs like a baby turtle.

Ask: How many turtles do you see?

Asha swims like an eel, wriggling from side to side.

Next, Asha tries to swim like a baby octopus but she swallows some water!

She tries again.

She’s getting better and better! Her Mom is so proud.

Say: Can you move your arms like this octopus?

glides like an eagle ray.

Asha

Suddenly, Asha sees plankton floating by. They have no flippers or wings. They move with the waves.

Asha stretches her arms and legs to float like the plankton.

“I’m floating!” shouts Asha.

“Yes you are!” beams her Mom.

Asha dives like a dolphin.

Now, Asha can kick, float, wiggle and dive. She LOVES swimming!

Look and talk about all the animals Asha sees.

“Asha! It’s time to go home,” says Mom.

But Asha is having too much fun!

“Mom, can I swim just a little bit more?”
